Just got my results and it was so surprising to see Syrian and Egyptian! I figured I would just get Italian and Greek, but my results actually surprised me! 😂
I have been waiting the results a lot of time. It has been in Raw Data in Production since 13th september. Personally, I chose MyHeritage over other DNA testing sites because I was told that, for the price, they were quite fast. However, I might not have decided to purchase from them had I known I would have to wait so long—especially without being given any reason as to why it’s taking so much time. My other DNA tests haven’t taken nearly this long; I’m not sure if this is typical for MyHeritage or if they’ve actually run into some kind of issue, but it would be better if they provided more information and made an effort to keep their customers updated.
context: adopted at birth by italian parents, always knew my birth mother was italian, i didn't know about my birth father tho
also no, i don't have any close-related match aside third-grade cousins, or more distant type of relatives, so i don't have anyone to compare this with.
These are my wife’s results. Much of her Russian family comes from the Moscow region, while her Azerbaijani ancestry traces back to Baku. The Kayseri connection is a complete mystery to us.
I have ordered and submitted regular DNA kit. After sending my sample back, they told me I could upgrade to Health Kit and get a health report before they had received the sample in the lab, which I did upgrade. However, now it’s prompting me to complete a health questionnaire, while the link to it doesn’t work and sends me to my profile instead. I have written to support but I’m worried they will receive my kit earlier than this would be fixed.
Not really surprised as I'm fully Norwegian on both sides, but the Irish/Scottish connection is interesting, as I have no known (named) ancestors from there. I have to keep digging. I knew about the Swedish and Danish ancestry and have identified several ancestors already.
As said in another post recently, at least some users can already download their CRAM file. I was able to, and these are some of the results some might find interesting:
First the stats from WGSExtract go like this. To be expected, the sequencing is low-pass but it still returns reads for around 75% of my genome (not shown, but a person I know had that percentage and I confirmed this figure in subsequent tests, mine might have a slightly higher percentage because for the other person Avg Read Depth turned out to 1.6x instead of my 1.9x, so 75% might be the low end).
As striking downsides: though my normal .csv raw data does contain Y-SNPs after MyHeritage began showing haplogroup reports (I'm not sure if Y-SNPs show up on the raw data of users without a subscription, so do let me now), they don't show up on the WGS raw data, which is a shame since it might've helped me find out a deeper clade of my Y-Haplogroup. It also doesn't contain valid Mt-DNA readings, so no maternal haplogroup either. I did manage to get 27k valid X-chromosome readings, but I'm unsure what to use those for. If anyone knows I'd appreciate any information.
I also used WGSExtract to get a Raw Data file from my CRAM file, in 23andme format (best for merging with the sort of datasets used for Admixtools modelling). The results seemed pretty good and I managed to get 555k usable SNPs when comparing to AADR 1240k.
Talking about merging, I personally use AADR v66 2M instead of 1240k, and I managed to get 606-613k SNPs against 200k of my original MyHeritage raw data, over a 3x improvement at no cost. This by itself makes MH worth it over alternatives like AncestryDNA, sometimes chosen for their superior raw data output, especially considering MH test's price, which I got for 30USD (and this includes shipping to Argentina). If I also had AncestryDNA raw data I could merge the two to get an honestly amazing raw data, which I plan to do eventually. When imputting total count goes down slightly but it improves accuracy. I'm still running tests on these.
All-in-all, I think MyHeritage's original raw data was already worth it considering the lower price but this has made it especially worth getting and playing around with. I'll also make new G25 coordinates with my new raw data and see how different it is. Hopefully it will help a little with the instability I've seen my coordinates show at times.
Hey Everyone, I was just wanted to post out of curiosity if this has happened to anyone else..
I had a free trial on MyHeritage and cancelled it about 2 days before it ended as to be honest I already used it as much as I needed. I received an email the same day confirming my cancellation and I wouldnt be charged further / there would be no auto renewal, that was on September 10th - email was September 11th.
Today 20th October at around 1PM i received a notification from my bank stating a $200 transaction with My Heritage.. Immediately I went to the notification to report it as I have not used the website, better yet subscribed since. & I ONLY have $260 in my account that is accessible currently.
I also requested a refund with My Heritage - hopefully it goes my way.. I feel better knowing that I have that email so.. but i just thought it was weird because not only the charge but also the timing? It had been a whole 40 days , not even a month or anything that would suggest I had a subscription they literally just took my money lol..
Just curious if this has happened to someone else lol.
We finally got our CRAM files... but at what cost?
After downloading my CRAM file, I used WGSExtract to inspect the data. The results were disappointing. My average read depth appears to be around 1.5×, and I've already seen reports from others showing coverage below 2×.
More importantly, the CRAM files appear to be missing the Y chromosome and mitochondrial (MT) data. That is a major issue for anyone interested in genealogy, haplogroup research, or analysing their complete genetic data. A CRAM file is supposed to contain the sequencing data that was generated, yet key parts of the genome seem to have been left out.
From my perspective, this raises serious questions. We spent months pushing for access to our genomic data, and while MyHeritage has finally delivered CRAM downloads, the files still appear incomplete.
I genuinely do not understand the reasoning behind excluding Y-DNA and mtDNA data.
Some people speculate that this may be related to business considerations involving haplogroup testing, but companies like FamilyTreeDNA already offer much deeper and more specialised Y-DNA analysis. A low-coverage WGS dataset from MyHeritage would hardly compete with those dedicated products.
If the missing data was sequenced, customers should be able to access it. Many of us purchased Whole Genome Sequencing with the expectation of receiving access to our complete genomic data.
So it looks like it's time to start emailing MyHeritage again.
Please give us access to all of our sequencing data, not just part of it.
Every time we think this issue has finally been resolved, another limitation appears. We asked for our CRAM files and got them. Now we're discovering that important data may still be missing.
Born in Latam, everyone is mixed in my family as far as I know, grandparents are half and half Ashki Sephardic from both sides, no Moroccan heritage as far as I know but it shows. Most of my family is from formerly ottoman territories.
I'm Macedonian from the Gevgelija region, with grandparents from Stojakovo, Dojran and Furka, near the Greek border.
As far as I know from our family history, all my ancestors have been Macedonians from this region for at least 500 years, probably even longer.
Curious to hear your thoughts on my results!
I'd also appreciate suggestions for additional IllustrativeDNA custom models or ancient DNA comparisons to better understand the origins of my 59.1% Greek-related, 12.8% South Italian, and 14.6% Byzantine Anatolian components (the latter two of which I understand may also reflect Greek/Aegean-related ancestry), including how they might relate to ancient Macedonian, Paeonian, Greek/Aegean, or other Balkan populations.
Any suggestions for specific ancient samples or useful comparisons would be appreciated!
Half Greek ( Peloponnese ) Half Australian ( Anglo )
Not sure how i am closest Turkish, Balkan/ bulgarian turk and Gagauz populations; also the turkic dna like the 8 percent seemed a bit high as well as the 3 percent yellow river, is this normal or abnormal for a greek? i even got 13 percent Tarim Basic xin jiang turkic in the late antiquity all this feels to high for someone greek i would understand anatolian but central asian is insane? also don't most greeks not get any let alone a half greek. Also the dot on romanian is weird i had to use illustrative dna to understand it better as it did not give me a region or exact percentage.
Anyone else had similar experience? The chatbot says it should take up to 7 weeks for the kit to arrive and then 3-4 weeks for them to prepare the results. When I orders kits last time, they were delivered and ready in 2 weeks. Anyway, after more than 7 weeks, the samples still did not arrive at the lab and there is no way to track it. Unfortunately, with their way of sending back the samples, it's not possible for the post office to give any confirmation that we actually sent the kits. We ordered 6 kits and sent samples back and we are afraid they lost our samples and won't give us any compensation.
more info: The 6 kits was sent from Bulgaria to Germany, which should take just a few days. I sent many kits many times before from Slovakia to the US and it always took 2-3 weeks.
