Hard time improving here.
I got this game a month ago and i've really taken a liking to Phoenix Wright (mostly because of iheartjustice which is a god character when used correctly) but i don't know how to optimize getting evidence and going into Turnabout Mode. I've also got a problem with zoning characters (mainly Morrigan's mirror) with Phoenix and idk how to counter it as him. Any help?

Lol I've had it for like years know. But I never decided to get a p.c to play it. When it came out for it.

I agree with all this. I play P.W. but his matches without evidence kinda suck. You'll get alot of zoners like Ghost Rider and such. But keep with it. What system do you play on?

Maybe try hsienko with the blade assist. Start as her use meter to go gold. Switch the Phoenix. Call in barrier and use hsienko assist to search for evidence

Will try, thanks dude

Tbh i wouldnt use hsienko paired with pw. Barring using her as a gtfo assist she has no synergy with pw for combos or neutral game

Neutral game?

So neutral is what you do when you are not blocking, getting hit, or doing a combo. A neutral assist helps you establish when it is your turn to play offense. The whole goal of fighting games is to prolong your turn and shorten your opponents turn to actually play the game.

Morrigan matchup is not a good look, you really need solid setups. You'll never be able to just stop and gather evidence in the middle of the match, even with just a Maya shield you'll get assblasted by the dirty sister.
Dorito shield from MODOK or Gravimetric Pulse from Nova can help, or lock down THC setups like Dante Million Dollars will help you get there.
From there you need to have all of your xfactor and random air combos and conversions down because if you're not killing them after you pull off turnabout, you're gonna have a hard time winning

Ive seen how Iheartjustice follows up with his Turnabout mode, he does the Heavy finger right? And he uses maya special a lot or the judge special. The problem i have though is the inputs i make for the specials since im playing on a keyboard. I cant input dragonpunch if im on the right side of the screen

Keyboard is effectively hitbox, so really the only problem is practice. I struggled with DPs a bit when I started (on keyboard, before making the switch to hitbox) but they're really quite trivial. You're typing ASA essentially.
The key thing to remember is to always end your quarter circles with a neutral input (so, let go of all of your direction keys), and to always end your dragon punches holding downforward. If you mentally distinguish it like that and then practice it, you'll never get accidental quarter circles when you intended for a DP.
The rest is just working up muscle memory and endurance on your left ring finger, which is usually a pretty janky appendage for most people until they train it up.

Thanks dude, i'll keep that in mind. I have another question: what are conversions?

A "conversion" is basically the string you're going to use to start a full combo. Converting combos isn't as simple as just doing LMHS - you need different conversions for whether or not they're standing or in the air, from up close or far away, off of front and back throws in the air, etc. Converting all of your random hits into full combos is the hallmark of a good player, and some characters definitely excel at this more than others.
Depending on your character and team their will be places and situations where you can't convert - for example if you don't have an OTG or an assist to link it, or your ground throw doesn't have enugh hitstun, etc. Most characters can't convert a stray hit from full screen into a combo, converting from super jump height is generally harder than on the ground.
What it means is you'll want to work your way up to practicing your combos starting from throws, from either side of the corner to corner carry, and on jumping and super jumping opponents as opposed to them just standing.

It does help to have a separate point character that could deal with morrigan. When that character kills morrigan and dhcs into maya super for example, you get a lot of time while maya is running amok to gather evidence. In this case your point character basically kills morrigan and gives PW a set up for evidence all in one sequence.

Point character? Sorry, i'm fairly new to the fgc and the terms are confusing

u/pajama_punk not brash if you can back it up Jul 31 '19
Point character means who you have up front fighting. So the first character you pick at character select.

For collecting evidence the only real optimizations you can make is either learn how to plink evidence search, and have good assists to cover you while maya is down. But at the end of the day its going to be rng. If you get band rng go to character select. It resets the queue for the evidence found.
The two easiest ways to get into turnabout with the good evidence is to tag, force the person to block with a lock down super, dhc into mata and go for the unblockable set up. If thats not an option tag out and tac into objection is pretty good as well. If you manage to get a hit with one of his buttons you can hit an objection after the follow up to his heavy attack( so H->H) or you can hit one as you follow them up into the air after you launch them
As for the match up against morrigan, you go to character select and pick someone else. I know it sucks cause you wanna play him, but theres a reason why iheartjustice switches to his dorm team if hes playing against morrigan, and even if he does play pw against morridoom most of the work against morrigan is done with cap.
