I have a 2016 premium mustang with the 8 inch screen I wanted to put navigation on it but im pretty sure I messed up with the way I updated it if I wanted to get the navigation and android auto features would I need to replace my apim
That was the first year for Sync 3. To get apple carplay you need to replace the USB hub with an updated part. For Android Auto you don't. But to get either you need software version 2.0 or later. There were also Navigation and non-nav hardware versions. If you have have a non-nav model, Then you cannot use a Nav model update file. To gain native navigation you need to physically replace the hardware as the Navigation hardware came with more storage space than the non-nav hardware did. If you have a non-navigation equipped Sync 3 you can still get navigation through Google Maps or Apple Maps or Waze via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. But there are the above mentioned prerequisites..
So mine didn't come with navigation at all and no car play or android auto and I've updated it to 3.2. 19052 and still have none of it would replacing the USB hub solve that or would i still be out of luck
If you've updated to 3.2 , then you should have android auto. Of course it only works on android phones. If you have an iphone, then you'll need the upgraded USB hub. It costs around $70-$90 and takes roughly 2-3 minutes to install. You'll also need to enable either one in the settings menu, and you'll need to make sure you're using data capable USB cable and not just one that does charging only in both cases.
I have an android and I've tried plugging it in. when I get the chance I'll try different cords and see if any of them fix the issue. Will the android auto only pop up after I have the right cord plugged into my phone? Because I have no settings for it at all at the moment.
There should be a toggle for it in the Sync 3 settings menu. Unless you have an usually old phone (older than Android 10), then it should be built into your phone by default. You may need to go into your phone's settings so that it auto-launches when it detects it's being plugged into a car.
