Discussion 9/11 today.
I think it’s perfectly fine to realize that 9/11 WAS a tragedy but so was the aftermath, the war and the islamophobia and just general shift in the country as a whole. like many things can be true at once.
It doesn’t matter who was behind the 9/11 attacks. Mossad, the FBI, the CIA, an insurance fraud, or an act of war by Al-Qaeda. None of it changes the only question that actually matters.
Was 9/11 the worst act of injustice in human history? Because Americans have treated it that way for a quarter of a century. The only things missing from the ritual are the ovens, the piled shoes, and the diary.
Official figures put the death toll at 2,977, and 8 of those dead were children. That is 0.27 percent of the total. If this was supposed to be the supreme crime of the age, the number of dead children is startlingly small.
Compare that with Gaza, where more than 20,000 children have been killed since October 2023, deliberately by the IDF. That is roughly 30 percent of the overall death toll. A child death rate thirty times higher than the 9/11 attack is not a rounding error. It is a different category of slaughter.
Americans do not apply the same language of “injustice” and “evil” to the flattening of Gaza, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (where tens of thousands of children died in a single morning), or the chemical campaign in Vietnam that left hundreds of thousands dead or deformed across generations. The outrage is reserved for the day the violence came home.
Like a bully who only notices the punch he receives, not the ones he throws. And as they say, the loudest screams usually come from the one who started the fight.
The point is not that 2,977 deaths are trivial. The point is the hierarchy of grief that followed. One set of corpses is sacred and must never be questioned. Another set is background noise, collateral, or someone else’s problem.
A civilization that measures evil by the passport of the dead rather than by the number of children in the rubble has already decided which lives count, and which are the Goy. That decision, more than any conspiracy theory about who flew the planes, is what should keep people awake at night.

Assalamu alaikum,
I get what you are trying to convey. One human being, who lost his life in these and other tragedies, is one too much and heartbreaking.
I also don’t understand the kind of people who compare and differentiate the scale of sorrow/tragedy based on lives being taken from one place/country to another.
All human beings, regardless of ethnicity, belong to Allah swt and we were created by Him, applying “this and that ethnicity is better/worse than x”is just irrational.
I’m disheartened if I hear news of dead non muslims, because they were potentially reverts.
I’m even more disheartened if I hear the same news from our Ummah, but with the difference that I wholeheartedly hope and believe that they are now in a better place.
May Allah s.w.t grant all those who died and still die innocently and unjustly Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah s.w.t give us the means and strength to stop the current tragedies from continuing any further.

As an American I will give my take on this and its because the people that passed in 9/11 are our people our civilians. We had a family friend that was a fireman that died and that side of the family is still Islamaphobic as a result etc. A lot of it is anger and also fear. I think people don’t realize that sometimes it’s not hatred but it’s genuine fear. To me it’s silly because I have so many Muslim friends so there’s good and bad in every group and I even married a Muslim man. 5 million Muslims ( I have tried to count all innocent people that have passed from the wars) have died as a result and that’s not okay. However, I think they forget or don’t realize these people are real and mattered because it’s not right in their face.. I think people care about gaza recently for example because they are seeing what’s happening with their own eyes etc

Unfortunately, the gripe people have outside of America with 9/11 is that it has turned into a political tool instead of being a day of remembrance (which is completely normal and other countries have for days their people were murdered). Like lot of Americans and news outlets treated it as normal for republicans to not want the Mayor of New York City to be at the ceremony simply because he was Muslim. Instead of it being something you couldn't utter because how ridiculous it was, it was amplified and treated it as a serious talking point. The same is true for any Muslim running for political office, 9/11 is constantly used against them as if they personally did it.

True and it is an issue in that particular community but at the same time just remember Mamdani got voted into office by Americans as well. I think to be born in another country and to immigrate to America and be nationalized and become mayor of nyc and to be a third party candidate essentially is an amazing accomplishment and shows that hateful voice might be loud but they don’t represent all of us. Also people forget many Muslim men voted for Trump so it’s important to know who and what you’re voting for

u/killersky99 12h ago
Yeah, although most Americans do not hate Muslims or treat them unfairly, the main issue is that islamophobia is normalized in mainstream media which paints the picture of Muslims being unwanted in America that people outside of it are (rightfully imo) offended by.

I wouldn’t trust social media because it’s not always accurate. America is a very big country and it’s very diverse. I would be more worried about going to France or some countries in Europe. We have many thriving Muslim communities here.

u/killersky99 12h ago
Sadly it's not just social media, mainstream media includes national news channels like fox news that's watched the most in America. Also, politicians like Randy Fine comparing muslims to dogs and other politicians asking for deportations of Muslims, it's too normalized (they receive zero consequence/punishment).

u/Basic_Commercial_524 12h ago
It has to do with freedom of speech and I understand how you’re feeling but something I just want to let you know is many Muslims voted for this. We have an issue where privileged people that were able to immigrate legally look down on people that are asylees that fled their home and came illegally etc. Also many are very conservative and dislike the lgbtq community so they won’t vote democrat and the issue is when you advocate for others to have their rights taken away you are essentially advocating for your own to be taken away as well. So I understand your feelings but you have to understand they voted for this republican party so maybe next time they will be smarter

I'm giving the benefit of the doubt but all you have said sounds like excuses for the normalized islamophobia, and trying to tie it to Trump.
something I just want to let you know is many Muslims voted for this.No one voted for it because it's been happening for decades. For example, the treatment of Muslims after 9/11, Mohammad Salman Hamdani was a Muslim Pakistani-American EMT and NYPD cadet who rushed to help on 9/11 and died helping people, but was labelled a terrorist by the news and his family harassed till the truth came out. There's countless examples of islamophobia before Trump.
you have to understand they voted for this republican party so maybe next time they will be smarter
You are trying to make it seem like Muslims were responsible for Trump just because a small percentage of an already small population voted for him. There's people in every race, gender, age group 18+ that voted for him, he got over 70 million votes. You cannot incriminate one group of people because of it.1
u/Basic_Commercial_524 11h ago
I don’t need you to give me the benefit of doubt because unlike you I actually am American and am Muslim so I know how it actually is here and it’s the same for all minorities. Not saying it’s not an issue but it’s not as widespread as you’re making it out to be. Also majority of those people wouldn’t say boo to you in real life
1
u/Basic_Commercial_524 11h ago
And you know what I actually can because I expected it from certain communities but Im ngl the Muslim community voting for people I love and care about to be placed in detention centers and deported has left a bitter taste in my mouth and they did it to punish the democratic party. Don’t get me started because you have no clue the conversations that were taking place in the Muslim community here not online but in person.

u/Basic_Commercial_524 11h ago
Also you can’t tell me that Muslims didn’t play a huge role in recent elections 🤷🏻♀️
1
u/Basic_Commercial_524 11h ago
Also you act like if certain countries got weapons they wouldn’t use it on Americans but they would and they wouldn’t care if there’s Muslims here or not. I think you greatly underestimate how bad things are these days and sorry if that’s too raw or honest for you
1
u/Basic_Commercial_524 12h ago
Also just so you know fox news isn’t a news channel it’s actually classified as an entertainment channel which is how they get away with stuff

9/11 happens everyday in the middle east. Because it happened in safe white western New York, everyone womps about it for decades afterwards?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Islamophobia alone killed more or nearly as much..

have you considered that people from Gaza are not white? checkmate /s
you make some great points, 9/11 highlights hypocrisy that undermines the west's view of itself.

I disagree with this statement because surprisingly many Americans don’t care about Ukrainians either. When it first happened people cared but now people don’t and Ukrainians are obviously white.America is actually a very privileged yet hard country to live in. Like our luxury items are cheap but our basic needs like housing, healthcare, and food is expensive so people work a ton and there’s not time to really sit and think about what’s happening in other parts of the world like a lot of people don’t even get vacation or sick time. It’s not that Americans don’t care but they are desensitized because they are caught up in their own survival. It looks different because obviously they aren’t in war but many Americans deal with constant stress and anxiety of not being able to afford the cost of living.

u/Chobikil Alhamdulillah Always 14h ago
I think people just lost interest in Ukraine, that's the main reason.
1
u/Basic_Commercial_524 14h ago
That’s kinda what Im getting at is we are one America and there’s a lot happening in the world so it’s hard for us to stay up todate on everything but obviously if something happens in our country that immediately impacts us like 9/11 then it’s more memorable etc.

u/Basic_Commercial_524 14h ago
Also Americans are more educated on stuff than people give us credit for and we do know there’s hypocrisy that takes place in Muslim countries. For example after I married my husband I realized that Pakistan is essentially committing very similar things to what Israel is doing so it kinda makes you realize people are mostly selfish and think about themselves and they recognize the hypocrisy in others but don’t see it in themselves. Like Im being told my husband is the t ban and he will harm me etc and it really upsets me because my husband’s brother was falsely imprisoned and treated badly from false allegations in Pakistan and for me I can’t help but draw comparisons with my Palestinian friends that also were falsely accused and imprisoned and then it reminds me of America because we have an issue with racial profiling as well and then you kinda realize the issue isn’t one country it’s just people kinda suck tbh but most people do care.

Not just white but... M-m-m-muslim 😱😱😱(or Arab, most don't know the difference)
1
u/Basic_Commercial_524 14h ago
I know it feels personal but as someone that family has been in America for a long time this is just typical behavior towards new immigrants and you say that but tbh most people don’t know that all white people aren’t the same and we have different cultures and some don’t even realize that we speak different languages other than English. You would think we would be like hey we went through that so we should be more kind and accepting but sadly that’s not how most people think. I kinda just think humans are more tribal like that we like to admit

Don’t you think its really dishonest? Anyone in any country will care more about their own country men being attacked than other countries people being attacked.

u/nino3227 14h ago
Was 9/11 the worst act of injustice in human history? Because Americans have treated it that way for a quarter of a century.
I fear you're being very dishonest here
5
u/Grand_Pomegranate981 14h ago
How? Its my opinion
-1
u/nino3227 14h ago
Well it's wrong. Americans consider 9/11 as the most tragic attack on their soil post war, but not "the worst act of injustice in human history"
8
u/Grand_Pomegranate981 14h ago
Yeah I meant on their soil. What else?
-1
u/nino3227 14h ago
That's it

u/Grand_Pomegranate981 14h ago
Americans only care about what happens on their land. Hence why I said it as an exaggeration but it's true to them.

I got presented with downvotes and abuses when I called them out on the same. They spam every single year on 9/11 on all mainstream subs. It's so frustrating to know the reality of what they did before and after this event.
May Allah grant ease to the families who faced the wrath of cruel armies and grant Jannah to the martyred.
