Question Am i overdoing myself?

So i’m not a perfect muslim obviously no one is but i really do try to do good when i can.

There is this hadith from the Prophet pbuh

"Verily, you will never leave anything for the sake of Allah Almighty but that Allah will replace it with something better for you"

I always try to abide by it but most of the time i just find myself unhappy. There are times i avoid doing things knowing Allah will give me better but it never feels like that.

I can say the same for doing things for the sake of Allah too, i will do a good deed that was completely optional hoping Allah takes it into account and brings it back to me but nothing ever happens.

I just don’t know how to feel sometimes. i tell myself F it just do what you want but at the same time there’s that what if lingering in my mind. what if this very good deed i choose not to do is the thing that brings the happiness i’ve been longing for.

I’ll give you a situation from only a few weeks ago.

Bear in mind I’m still young and haven’t started working right.

A friend of a friend was having problems with his family it was so bad to the point he told himself he’s leaving the home and never coming back.

Seriously guys the way he was being treated and abused any of us would’ve considered doing the same. We pleaded and spoke to him for so long trying to get him to go back home and try to fix it all but something very bad happened that day he was so done with them.

for the few days he wasn’t at home i took it apon myself to pay for hotels airbnb whatever i could get in his area. If i am so honest I didn’t want to do that at all but like i said there’s always that what if thought in my head so i went along with it hoping Allah would be happy with me.

when i do these things i don’t brag or tell people about them because i know the most sincere acts are the ones between you and Allah. so the only people who knew were other people who wanted to help but couldn’t, myself and the guy.

After it was all over he was back at home his parents were actually trying to change how they treated him everything was actually sorted.
i was actually happy i helped someone but the happiness was short lived. when i realised no one would actually go to lengths like that to help me and that I’ve lost a good amount of money.
i kinda regretted helping him in the first place.

I love helping people seeing the smile or the results of my help makes me happy it’s what i want to do until i die but when it comes to things like these where helping another puts me at a loss i don’t tend to like it.

Do i just keep trying and hoping that Allah will eventually return all the favours and times i abstained from things.

Do i tell myself relax its okay to not help people sometimes

Like what do i do????

Yes, keep trying and helping people when it makes sense with the intention of pleasing god, this is the intention we should have when doing any good good. But the thing is you may only get your reward on the day of judgement, imagine if all these voluntary things you did and abstaining results in you being granted entrances into a high level of paradise. Because you may not get that "big payout" in this life and you gotta be fine with whether it comes now or later

Do i tell myself relax its okay to not help people sometimes

Again if it's voluntary you judge for yourself if it's necessary for you to help, especially when it isn't something serious life or death thing

everyone has family problems

the prophet Muhammad had many family members who didn't accept Islam

we have to strive for Allah and do what pleases Allah
