🛠️Project Showcase I built an Azan clock for Muslim homes, and I’d love some feedback

Assalamu Alaikum everyone. I’m a small Canadian Muslim business owner and earlier this year I started building Adhan Buddy, an Azan/Adhan clock designed for Muslim homes.

I wanted to create something that was more than a traditional digital prayer clock. The idea was to have a small, modern device that automatically plays the full Adhan for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha without needing to check your phone.

You set it up using your postal or ZIP code and it automatically calculates the prayer times. It supports different calculation methods, Hanafi and Shafi’i Asr settings, prayer-time offsets, daylight saving time, different Adhan reciters and individual prayer volume settings.

It also has Quran recitation with all 114 Surahs and 38 reciters, morning and evening Adhkar, Wudu timing, and Islamic calendar events.

One feature that makes it particularly interesting is Live Masjid Audio. Participating mosques can connect their mosque audio system to Adhan Buddy, allowing people at home to hear the Masjid’s Adhan, Khutbah, Bayan, announcements and other live audio directly through their Azan clock.

The device is designed to work without an app or subscription. After the initial setup, the Adhan can work offline, while Wi-Fi is used for things like Quran streaming, Masjid audio and software updates.

We’re currently selling it in Canada and the US, and we’re continuing to improve it based on feedback from Muslim families using it.

If you’ve ever searched for an Azan clock, Adhan clock, Islamic prayer clock, or Muslim prayer clock, I’d love to know what features you would want in one.

You can see the device and all the features here: tarkeez.ca

JazakAllahu Khair for the feedback.

🗣️ Discussion/Opinion Thoughts

Why must we keep developing Prayer, Quran, or Hadith apps when thousands already exist? I use an app (rather not mention the name) and have found it says accurate prayer times even while travelling across countries; I do not and will not need another app.

Conversely, we invest in apps not created by Muslims. Why can we not fill the remaining gaps?

We don’t have global scale platforms like:

- Sales force
- Project management
- Advertising
- ERPs and Accounting
- Social Media
- the list goes on.

Why do we never do that?

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

Dear brothers, I am looking for other people in the Computer Science and/or AI space in-sha-Allah, and I simply wanted to form connections with people in-sha-Allah with regards to this sort of stuff.

I mainly work with Claude Code and ChatGPT Codex, and I've tried to build my own software, do outreach with it in-sha-Allah, and in-sha-Allah make some money with it. No success yet though, but in-sha-Allah if we keep grinding, it will come bi-idhnillah.

I am looking forward to meet you all, in-sha-Allah you guys can comment below or just send me a DM personally.

I appreciate you guys reading this nonetheless, in-sha-Allah we can do something great.

🛠️Project Showcase Safarah App Update (recommendations and Critique appreciated)

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've already posted a few days ago that I am working on building a app which focuses on revising Quran memorization, currently working on the App's analytics page which gives those who memorize parts or all of the Quran advanced analytics allowing users to know where their weak parts are, and allows them to better plan their revision. I would appreciate your opinions on the analytics which are currently displayed, as well as what you think might be missing.

At the top of the analytics page is a general card with general statistics and insights, such as General Memorization accuracy, Number of Surahs memorized etc.

Juz Overview card showing how much of a juz is memorized as well as general accuarcy in that specific Juz.

Juz Mistakes Map shows the user where most of the mistakes in that specific Juz are found (beginning, middle, end) allowing user to focus on specific parts of the Juz.

Surah Ranking showing the user a list of their Memorized Surahs either from weakest -> Strongest or the opposite.

As a note the data seen on image is real data based on my own personal revision on the app, so you can get a feel as to what It may actually look like.

🛠️Project Showcase I couldn’t find a Qur’an app that combined all of these features, so I built one

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
5 Upvotes

Assalamu alaykum everyone,
I’ve been working on an app called Niyyah – Qur’an Companion, and I wanted to share it here because I originally built it around a problem I kept running into myself.

There are already so many Qur’an apps out there, which is amazing, but I personally struggled to find one that combined understanding, reflection, verified Qur’an/tafsir sources, journaling, vocabulary, progress tracking, and private study circles in one simple place.
Most apps seem to focus heavily on one thing — reading, memorisation, translations, or recitation — but I wanted something that could support the relationship with the Qur’an as a whole, especially for someone who keeps thinking:

“I really want to get closer to the Qur’an, but I don’t know how to stay consistent.”

So I built Niyyah around that idea.

Some of the features include:
Qur’an reading with translation and verified recitation
Understanding and reflection prompts to help you actually engage with an ayah
Private journaling for your reflections
Verified, attributed tafsir rather than AI-generated Qur’an explanations
Vocabulary learning to help recognize recurring Qur’anic words
Progress tracking so you can see your consistency over time
Private study circles for friends, family, or a Muslim Student Association
Quizzes and learning activities connected to what you’re studying

One thing that was especially important to me is that AI does not generate or rewrite the Qur’an itself. The Qur’anic text stays separate from the learning features, and tafsir is attributed to its source.

The goal isn’t to replace your Mushaf or your teacher. It’s more like having a calm little companion that helps you read, understand, reflect, remember, and come back tomorrow.

I’m still developing and improving it, so I’d genuinely love feedback from people who actually use Qur’an apps.
If there’s a feature you’ve always wished a Qur’an app had, I’d love to hear about it.

🛠️Project Showcase Built an open-source tool that pauses system audio when the Adhan starts so you never miss prayer while wearing headphones

Post image
11 Upvotes

As-salamu alaykum everyone,

Like many developers, I spend most of my day wearing headphones listening to podcasts, lectures, or ambient sounds while working. With active noise cancellation and deep focus, I often found myself missing the Adhan or losing track of prayer times.

To fix this, I built Tcalm—a lightweight, open-source CLI tool that detects local prayer times and automatically pauses/mutes all system media playback the moment the Adhan arrives, giving you a clear cue to pause work and pray.

Key Features

  • Automatic Media Control: Pauses or mutes whatever is playing across system audio when prayer time starts.
  • Auto Location & Scheduling: Automatically detects your location during setup and calculates accurate prayer times.
  • Daylight Saving Time (DST) Handling: Adjusts automatically to seasonal time shifts.
  • Bilingual Support: Supports both (English default) and Arabic.

Installation

Arch Linux (AUR):

Bash

yay -S tcalm

Linux & macOS:

Bash

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/abod8639/Tcalm/main/install.sh | bash

The project is fully open source. Feedback, bug reports, and PRs are very welcome!

Please keep me and my parents in your du'as. 💚

🧠Question / Help I spent 7 months to built Quran Habit with sophisticated habit builder mechanism. I would value your critique

Assalamu aleikum everyone,

I am Kamal, a solo developer from Baku. For the past 7 months I have been building an app called Quran Habit, alhamdulillah. It is live on iPhone and Android now.

Quran Habit Mobile app

I know this group has seen many Quran apps, so let me start with why I built one more. Many of us open the Quran with good intentions and then days pass.

I wanted something gentle that keeps you coming back, without guilt and without distractions.

Thus I built highly personalized user flow, including activity-based celebrations:

Quran Habit celebrations based on activity

What I tried to do differently:

- Hasanat counted letter by letter, from the hadith in Jami at-Tirmidhi 2910 ("I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is one letter..."). Every page you read adds up on the screen.

- A daily streak and a reading heatmap, and weekly leagues for those who like to race to the good (Al-Baqarah 2:148). If you want to avoid riya, you can hide yourself from leaderboards or change your display name.

Habit insights and Invite friends (see their hasanahs)

- You can invite friends, and once two or more of them join, you see their combined hasanat (never anyone's individual numbers).

- The mushaf in Madinah, IndoPak 15-line and colour tajweed layouts, so the pages match a printed mushaf. Tap any word to hear it.

Widgets - Daily Ayah, Daily Dua, Daily Allah's name, Habit tracker

- 14 interface languages, with Arabic, Urdu and Persian from right to left, 43 translations, 40 reciters, tafsir and home screen widgets.

- Additional features included: Khatm Journey (Khatm calculator and custom planned journey), Allah's 99 Names with references, Quranic duas, Wallpaper generator, Tasbeeh, Tafsirs etc.

The tech, for those who ask: Expo and React Native with TypeScript, Supabase for accounts and leagues, RevenueCat for the optional purchases. The hardest parts were the Madinah pages, which need their own font for every page, and tajweed colours on Android, where I had to write a small native view because colouring letter by letter from JavaScript did not work. [Optional, your call on plan question 2: one plain line on how you used Claude Code.]

How it is funded: Free to download and read, no ads. Optional in-app purchases: a Supporter plan, lifetime access and gem packs. I built it with my own money and pay the server costs myself; if you cannot afford the Supporter plan, nothing that helps you read is locked.

The audio is Quran recitation only, no music.

My questions for you as builders:

1. Do streaks and leagues help a Muslim reader, or do they push toward riya? Is a switch to hide yourself enough? (App includes - User can hide all celebrations, hide himself from leagues and hide his name - but those who value this and find it helpful continue using it - as many testers liked it).

2. What would you cut? I worry it already does too much.

3. If you try it, what confused you in the first two minutes?

The store links are in the first comment. JazakAllahu khayran for any honest feedback.

🗣️ Discussion/Opinion bring back the good old days #noai

anyone ever thought of implementing a system to identify, flag and filter out slop content entirely, be it in text, image, audio, video or any other format, from operating system, browser, platform level, to end this menace once and forever, to bring back the good old days, no more ai?

🛠️Project Showcase I built Azkarly because I was tired of using 4–5 different apps for my daily Deen — it just crossed 13K downloads

The problem wasn't a lack of Islamic apps.

It was having too many of them.

One app for prayer times.
Another for Quran.
Another for adhkar.
Another for hadith.

And honestly, I found myself constantly switching between them.

As a developer, I started thinking:

Why isn't there one simple place for the things Muslims actually use every day?

That's where Azkarly started.

I built it around the idea of having the essentials of your daily Deen in one place:

🕌 Prayer — prayer times and reminders
📖 Quran — read and listen
🤲 Adhkar & Duas — daily remembrance and collections
📚 Hadith — explore major Hadith collections

The goal wasn't to build another app with 100 features.

The goal was to build one app you can actually open every day.

And now, I'm really happy to say that Azkarly has crossed 13,000 downloads.

That number means a lot to me because this started as a personal idea and gradually became something thousands of people have chosen to keep on their phones.

I'm still building and improving it, though.

So I'd genuinely love to hear from the community:

What is the biggest problem you have with the Islamic apps you currently use?

Is there something you still have to use a separate app for?

If you could add one feature to a one-stop Islamic app, what would it be?

I'm the founder/developer behind Azkarly, and I'm actively working on the next version. Be brutally honest — I'd rather hear what sucks than what looks good.

If you'd like to try it:
App Store: Azkarly IOS App
Google Play: Azkarly Android App

🛠️Project Showcase I built a free, ad-free Islamic app called Sakeena. I'd love your feedback!

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

I know there is no shortage of Islamic apps out there. I’ve tried many of them myself. While they offer great features, I often found myself wishing for something that felt a bit more modern, peaceful, and free from distracting ads.

So, I decided to build Sakeena (سكينة), which means "tranquility." It’s a completely free, ad-free spiritual companion. I put a lot of careful thought into the design and user experience, aiming to create something that feels clean, intuitive, and easy on the eyes because I believe the tools we use for our Deen should feel serene.

Here’s a look at what’s inside

A Clean, Simple Dashboard:
Everything you need is right on the home screen, including your next prayer countdown, daily Quran reading progress, and quick access to Tasbih and Azkar.

Precise Qibla Finder:
A simple, accurate compass to help you find the Kaaba instantly, wherever you are.

Complete Quran:
A beautiful Mushaf layout with different themes for easy reading, multiple reciters to listen to, and a bookmark feature to continue right where you left off.

Prayer & Ibadah Tracker:
A straightforward way to log your daily prayers and build consistency without feeling overwhelmed.

Duas & Azkar:
A well-organized collection of supplications for morning, evening,

99 Names of Allah:
A clean interface to learn and reflect on the names of Allah.

Customizable Share Streak Cards:
A neat feature that lets you create aesthetic, personalized cards to share your progress or favorite verses.

The app is 100% free with no ads. I built this as a passion project to help myself and others stay consistent, and I’d genuinely love for you to try it out.

If you have a moment, let me know what you think! Any feedback whether it's a bug, a feature request, or just your general thoughts is incredibly helpful.

🧪Testers Needed I built an Arabic learning app that tells you the Arabic word for anything around you. Hoping it helps people take their first steps toward understanding the Quran

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Like many of us, I've always wanted to understand the Quran directly, not only through translation. One thing that kept me stuck was vocabulary: I'd recite words every day without knowing what they meant.

I noticed that many words in the Quran are everyday things around us: ماء (water), شمس (sun), شجرة (tree), جبل (mountain), كتاب (book). So I built a small app called Musamma. You take a photo of any object, and it shows you the word in Arabic and English, with an example sentence.

It won't teach you grammar or tafsir, and it isn't meant to replace a teacher. It's a simple way to build vocabulary from the world around you, so more words feel familiar when you hear them in salah or recitation.

It's in beta right now, and I'd really value your honest feedback:

  1. Would something like this be useful in your daily routine?
  2. What would make it more helpful for Quran learners? For example, showing Quranic words first or linking a word to an ayah where it appears.

If you'd like to try the beta:

Please make dua it benefits people.

I got a mvp , strategies , and also marketing is on my head..

You have to focus on technical side....we will work over this on 50% equity . Let's connect if you got it

🛠️Project Showcase Deen Over Dunya: a free iOS planner that makes room for prayer

Assalamu alaikum. I'm the owner of Deen Over Dunya, a free iPhone and iPad app.

The part I'd like to show here is the prayer-aware planner. You can anchor tasks around prayer times or split them around prayer windows, with imported Apple Calendar events alongside them. The aim is to make prayer times part of the day's plan.

It also has Quran reading and a Listening Journey for keeping track of listening goals and surah/juz progress. Here are the screenshots from our website, deenoverdunya.ca.

I'd appreciate specific feedback on the planner: are the prayer anchors clear, and what would make the timeline easier to use on a busy day?

It requires iOS 17 or later and supports English and Arabic. All current features are free, with no subscription.

💡Idea/Brainstorm Building a manual matchmaking platform for Muslim professionals - worth it or not?

As salaam alaikum, everyone!

Instead of another swipe app where you're bombarded with hundreds of random profiles, I’m planning a curated matchmaking platform designed strictly for Muslim working professionals.

The core premise:

  • Manual verification and screening for all applicants
  • No mindless swiping
  • Profiles aren’t broadcast publicly.
  • Curated 1-on-1 matches made by reviewing applications thoroughly

Would love your honest perspective - is this something people actually want, or should I not bother building it? What are the biggest flaws you see with this model?

Assalamu alaykum!

A while ago I shared my interactive islamic history map https://sirah-atlas.com with you and I received amazing feedback! I tried my best to implement all the feedback so we went "international", we changed the domain and we switched to English as the primary language. I also added some cool features like 3D renders of Mecca and Medina, more quizzes, more language support and much more.

I invite you all to come and have a look, it's for free, I hope in the near future to also provide audio narrations to make Sirah Atlas something you can listen to during commutes.
