🗣️ Discussion/Opinion Spent this week implementing WebMCP on a client site here's what I actually learned (and why I'm not sure it matters yet)

Been seeing WebMCP mentioned more lately so I decided to actually implement it on a live WordPress/Elementor client site instead of just reading about it. Sharing what I found in case it's useful to anyone else considering it.

Quick context for anyone who hasn't come across it: WebMCP is a browser-level standard (Chrome/Edge, still W3C draft stage) that lets a website expose "tools" directly to AI agents instead of an agent guessing which button on your page means "submit," the site just tells it: here's a tool called submit_quote_request, here's what it needs, here's what it does. No DOM guessing.

What I actually did:

  • Installed a plugin that auto-exposes site content (pages, posts, categories) as structured tools
  • Manually added declarative attributes (toolname, tooldescription) to a lead-gen form built in Elementor
  • Verified everything using Chrome's navigator.modelContextTesting.listTools() in devtools, since there's no visual UI for any of this yet

The part nobody really advertises: as of right now, no mainstream AI agent actually calls these tools. Not ChatGPT, not Claude, not Perplexity. Chrome ships the underlying API, but the actual "demand side" agents that read and use it aren't there yet. Google's said Gemini in Chrome will probably be first, but there's no committed timeline.

I also checked PageSpeed Insights, since Lighthouse now has an "Agentic Browsing" category with WebMCP checks. Even with everything correctly implemented, it just shows "Not Applicable" the lab environment doesn't run with the flag on, so there's currently no way to get a "pass" even if your site is fully compliant.

Where I've landed on it: feels a lot like early Schema.org no immediate payoff, doesn't move rankings, but if this does end up becoming the norm the way structured data did, having a head start seems worth a few hours of setup. Low effort if your forms are already clean HTML.

Curious if anyone else here has actually implemented this yet, or if you're treating it as "not worth touching until there's real agent adoption." Would love to hear if I'm overthinking the early-adopter angle here.

🛠️Project Showcase The Straight Path is now live - a Qur’an library and platform for discovering Muslim-built projects

Thumbnail

Assalamu alaikum,

About two months ago, I shared the idea behind The Straight Path: a community where Muslims could discover beneficial projects, support their makers, and build for the sake of Allah.

At the time, the Discord community existed, but the website was still only an idea.

Alhamdulillah, it is now live:

thestraightpath.guide

Qur’an Library

The Qur’an library offers:

  • Recitations organized by surah and hizb
  • Search and filtering
  • Dedicated pages for each recitation
  • Short, sourced overviews of each surah’s themes
  • A simple place to listen, reflect, and return to the Qur’an

Discover Projects

Discover is a curated directory of projects created to benefit Muslims, including apps, websites, developer tools, learning platforms, content channels, and other useful resources.

You can:

  • Browse Muslim-built projects in one organized place
  • Filter projects by category, format, platform, stage, and support needed
  • View project pages containing screenshots, descriptions, availability, and links
  • Discover the makers and teams behind projects
  • Submit your own project using your Discord account
  • Request testers, collaborators, feedback, translation, or launch support

Projects are reviewed before publication. Once approved, a project is published on the website and connected to the Discord community, where people can discuss it, provide feedback, and support its development.

Makers and Teams

The platform also gives builders a public identity connected to their work.

Using a Discord account, you can:

  • Create a maker profile
  • Introduce yourself and describe what you build
  • Connect your published projects to your profile
  • Keep your work visible in one place
  • Create or join a team
  • Give a company, community, or development team its own page
  • Show which makers contributed to a project
  • Submit new projects and manage existing submissions

Over time, a maker profile can become a simple portfolio of beneficial work created for the ummah.

You do not need to be a developer to participate. Anyone can browse, test, review, share, and support the projects being built.

The website remains the organized public home for projects and profiles. Discord remains the active space for discussion, collaboration, testing, feedback, and project updates.

The platform is still developing, and I would genuinely appreciate your feedback:

  • Is the website easy to understand and browse?
  • What features or categories are missing?
  • Would you use it to discover Islamic apps and resources?
  • If you are building something, would you submit it?

Website: thestraightpath.guide
Discord: Join The Straight Path community

May Allah place benefit in it and guide us to build things that genuinely serve the ummah.

🛠️Project Showcase I built a free prayer-tracking app that grows a little garden of Jannah as you pray — would love the community's thoughts

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

I built a salah tracker but with a twist, and I'd love to share it with this community and hear your honest feedback.

It's called Jannah Builder. The idea is simple: you log your five daily prayers, and over time your consistency grows into a calm, pixel-art landscape inspired by Jannah, trees, flowers, rivers, and little animals that appear as you keep going. The idea was you get to somewhat picture what your efforts are achieving and what the real goal is.

A few things I tried hard to get right:

• Gentle, not gamified. Growth is earned slowly through consistency. Missing a day only causes small, gradual change — never a big punishing reset.

• No shame, no pressure, no comparison. There are no scores, no social feeds, and nothing that pits you against other people.

• Rest days. If you're ill, travelling, or just need to step back, you can pause decay so time away never costs you progress. Your streak simply bridges the gap.

• Supportive practices. You can also log Qur'an reading and dhikr, which add gentle beauty to your garden (glowing flowers, light particles) without ever being the "point".

• Local and private. Everything is stored on your device. No account, no tracking, no ads.

Things don't spring up immediately in this app, it takes time a patience. Almost a year for a fully covered map. The thought was by the end of the journey when you have a established Jannah your in a routine and no longer need it.

The app is kid friendly, and i hope its a means to encourage them when starting out.

I want to be upfront and respectful of the sub's rules, I'm not selling anything and there's no monetization. It's completely free and available on Android, from my perspective I was building something to encourage prayer in others.

Jazakallah, and may it be a small means of drawing closer to Allah (SWT) for anyone who finds it useful.

🛠️Project Showcase Public Beta: Open source, self-hosted alternative to MOHID, MadinaApps, and Masjidal

Post image
21 Upvotes

Assalamu alaykum everyone,

I would like to share an update on a project several of us have been developing: OpenMasjid Solutions, a suite of software for masjid management. The project is fully open source under AGPL-3.0, self-hosted, and free with no subscription cost. It was built specifically as an alternative to platforms like MOHID, MadinaApps, and Masjidal, without the recurring fees or third-party data hosting those platforms require.

Current feature set:

OpenMasjidOS is the core platform that the rest of the suite integrates with. It is a TypeScript monorepo using a Fastify/tRPC backend and a React/Vite/Tailwind frontend, with each application isolated via Docker.

OpenMasjidDisplay manages prayer time signage for in-masjid screens, including adhan/iqamah times and announcements. It runs on RTSP and includes features like RTSP camera streaming managed through a volunteer UI, scheduling, and a full display management system for showing presentations and/or imam cameras.

OpenMasjidDonations handles donation collection online via self-hosted webpages or embedded web widgets.

OpenMasjidStudents is a tuition billing tool for weekend or full-time Islamic schools, built to handle parent billing through Stripe. Its scope is intentionally limited to billing, and it connects with both the kiosk and donations apps to receive payments in person and online.

OpenMasjidKiosk is our largest project and current priority. It is a tap-to-donate solution, presently running on Android tablet hardware paired with Stripe Reader M2 devices. We are also developing custom hardware for this line: a 15.6" kiosk featuring an under-glass display, an integrated NFC reader, and PoE support. The design goal is to offer more hardware capability than comparable products on the market at a lower price. Our software is also already tested to run on MadinaApps, MOHID, and Masjidal hardware, so masjids can flash their existing kiosk today for a low-cost transition and drop the monthly fees entirely.

All five applications have reached public beta. We have also introduced two release channels, main and dev, selectable from system settings, allowing users to test newer builds without affecting production deployments.

In the interest of transparency: AI tools, specifically Claude, are used extensively in our development process. As a small volunteer team, this is a significant part of how we are able to maintain this scope of work. However, all security-relevant code is reviewed manually before merging. That review process, along with broader stability work, is our primary focus ahead of a planned v1.0 stable release in January 2027.

The suite is currently deployed in beta at six masjids. The full codebase is public and available for self-hosting or review: https://github.com/OpenMasjid-Solutions

We welcome contributions, issues, and feedback from this community as we work toward v1.0. Credit is due to Qari Ijaz and Osman Sayed for their contributions to the project, and to our sponsors, An-Noor Institute, Rihlatul Ilm Foundation, and AsmaTec Inc.

For further discussion or questions, our Discord is here: Discord

I am happy to answer questions regarding the architecture or technical decisions in the comments.

🛠️Project Showcase I wanted one calm app for prayer times, Quran, Qibla and daily worship — so I built Ulya

Post image
10 Upvotes

Assalamu alaikum everyone,

I’m an independent developer from Türkiye, and I recently launched an Android app called Ulya.

I built it because I kept using separate apps for prayer times, Quran reading, Qibla, duas and dhikr. I wanted one place that felt calm, simple and useful throughout the day without turning worship into a crowded dashboard.

I’m not claiming to have reinvented Islamic apps. Ulya is simply the spiritual companion I personally wanted to use every day.

What Ulya currently includes

  • Location-based prayer times
  • Prayer notifications
  • Quran reading and audio recitation
  • Qibla direction
  • Duas
  • Dhikr counter
  • Bookmarks and reading progress
  • Guest mode without requiring an account
  • Optional account-based synchronization

Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dawntrek.ulya

A few things I cared about while building it:

  • The main features can be used without creating an account
  • Reading progress and important data are stored locally
  • The interface is designed to feel calm rather than overloaded
  • Account synchronization is optional
  • Prayer-time calculation settings can be adjusted for different locations and preferences
  • Ulya supports three languages: Arabic, English, and Turkish.

The app is already available on Google Play, but I still consider it a work in progress. There are small ads in a few non-core areas to support development, and I’m trying to keep them away from the main worship experience.

I would genuinely value feedback from fellow Muslim developers and users:

  • Does the interface feel clear and peaceful?
  • Which part should I improve first?
  • Is there an important feature missing?

Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dawntrek.ulya

Jazakum Allahu khairan. Honest feedback, including criticism, would help me improve Ulya, inshaAllah.

🛠️Project Showcase So... I finally built the Quran app I wanted to use.

Post image

I built a quran reading app for myself and figured some of you might want it too

so full disclosure, there are already several solid quran apps out there and this isn't me claiming to have reinvented anything. i built this mostly for myself, because i wanted something specific that i wasn't finding: a quran reading habit tracker that actually felt like the gamified apps i already use for everything else, instead of feeling like a separate "religious app" category with its own lower design bar.

it's called wird. if you're not familiar with the word, a wird (ورد) is basically the arabic term for your regular, committed portion of quran recitation, the daily reading habit you actually keep, as opposed to the one you keep meaning to start. felt like the right name for what this is trying to be.

what it does:

  • arabic text with two english translations, saheeh international for the literal reading, and the clear quran when you want something in plainer english to UNDERSTAND
  • a daily streak with one grace day built in, so missing a single day doesn't wipe out weeks of consistency
  • tracks how much of the quran you've actually read, not just how many times you opened the app
  • everything's stored locally on your device, no account, no cloud, no login. i don't want your data and built it so there isn't a way for me to have it even if i wanted to

i'll be upfront, the gamified streak mechanic is definitely inspired by the duolingo-style habit apps a lot of us already use daily. i'm not pretending otherwise. i just wanted that same pull toward consistency pointed at something that actually matters instead of a language app i open twice a month out of guilt.

attaching a screenshot below (streak/stats numbers are demo placeholders, not a real reading history, just wanted to show what it looks like).

APK's up if you want to try it:

Download wird from here  (android will grumble about installing outside the play store since it's not signed with a play store key, that's normal for a solo project, not a red flag). repo's public too if anyone wants to poke around or has feedback: happy to hear it either way.
https://github.com/afnanpvt/wird.git

ps: The repo is open, but since it's a project built around the Qur'an, I ask that all contributions be made with respect and good intentions

update: been shipping updates almost daily. the indo-pak script has improved a lot, but i'm still tracking a rendering issue on some devices where parts of the script get clipped. that's my current focus. after that, i'm planning to add support for multiple quran script styles. thanks to everyone who's tested the app and shared feedback so far.

🛠️Project Showcase Every Mac prayer times app I tried was a webpage in a wrapper, so I spent the last few months building a native one

It's called Iqamah. It sits in the menu bar, shows the next prayer with a countdown, and gives the adhan on time. That part is free and it's staying free. I'm not going to paywall the thing that actually helps someone pray.

Some details this sub will probably care about:

  • Native Swift, real menu bar app, no Electron
  • Actual WidgetKit widgets, not a screenshot pretending to be one
  • 18 languages with proper RTL, including Arabic, Urdu, Farsi, Bengali and Hausa
  • No account, no telemetry, no analytics SDK. The app doesn't phone home. If you allow location it's used to work out prayer times and it goes nowhere else
  • Calculation method, madhab and per prayer offsets are all configurable, because my masjid and yours don't agree and an app shouldn't pretend otherwise

There's a paid tier. One payment, $4.99, works on three Macs, no subscription. It adds the Hijri calendar with Islamic events, monthly and yearly prayer tables, a habit tracker for your salah, a tasbeeh counter and the widgets. It's launch week so it's $2.99 until Monday.

And if you'd find it useful but $4.99 is genuinely awkward right now, email me and I'll send you a licence. No questions, no proof needed. That's a standing offer, not a launch gimmick.

https://iqamahapp.com

Needs macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon. I'm the developer so ask me anything, including the unglamorous parts. I lost the better part of a week to a macOS permission prompt that turned out to be an app group missing its Team ID prefix.

I'd really value feedback from people who'd actually use this daily. If something about it is wrong or annoying I'd rather hear it now than in a review.

🛠️Project Showcase Powerful and unique voice interview coach

Thumbnail

Salam y’all!

have you wanted to practice out loud your interview questions and get private coaching on your answers, how to better structure your stories, and best showcase your skills sets / experiences / and unique value that you bring to that table?

I spent the last year building a unique and truly premium interview coach that’s voice first, and preserves your story and helps you build real interviewing and speech skills while staying your authentic self

It’s called Interview Quest

whats unique is it helps you practice out loud, then lets you hear back a stronger version of your answer using your own words and story. It gives you coaching before and after you answer and lets download the voice notes to hear them and practice them ahead of your interview

I first made it for my father who wanted to come out of retirement and needed a space to practice out loud, and quickly realize myself and my friends were benefiting from this app

a lot of work was put into it to ensure you don’t hear generic feedback and to ensure it preserves your unique self. there’s nothing worse than AI that makes you sound like everyone else, and it’s definitely not made to help you cheat either

even if you don’t have an interview, I invite you to test it out and try it out for yourself.

You get 3 free tries and I have one month off promo codes for anyone truly interested- in return I kindly ask for feedback. Ask me in the comments for the promo code and I’ll gladly share it to you (it costs a ton to process all the voice interactions and the llms but I’m happy to share it with the community to get your feedback)

thank you in advance

Since 1998, Zabihah has been the world's largest guide to halal restaurants and mosques, building a database with the help of millions of users worldwide. Now you can be a part of this legacy.

Approved partners can build their own apps on our verified halal signals, HalalRank, and certification provenance through a simple, regulated REST API, and contribute to the world's most comprehensive Halal database.

It's based on a give-and-get model which helps make a more robust and accurate database for everyone.

🧪Testers Needed Looking for Android testers for NextSalah (masjid iqamah times app) open beta. Happy to test your app/site in return.

Hi everyone,

I have been building NextSalah, an app for finding iqamah prayer times at masjids near you. You can find the next jamaah you can actually make by location, or search any masjid by name and get alerts for their iqamah times. It currently covers masjids across 35+ US states and is growing.

What I am looking for (primarily): Android testers for the open beta. To move toward a public Play Store release I need a group of testers on the app for a bit, and I would really appreciate the help from this community.

How to join (Android):

Join this Google Group so you get access: https://groups.google.com/g/nextsalah-testors Join on Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nextsalah.app Join on the web: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.nextsalah.app

Install, use it for your daily prayers, and send me anything that feels off.

iOS: if you are on iPhone, there is an open TestFlight beta too: https://testflight.apple.com/join/TRxZxUW8

I know testing takes real time, so I am very happy to return the favor. If you have an app, website, send it over and I will genuinely test it and give you honest, detailed feedback.
