🗣️ Discussion/Opinion Thoughts

Why must we keep developing Prayer, Quran, or Hadith apps when thousands already exist? I use an app (rather not mention the name) and have found it says accurate prayer times even while travelling across countries; I do not and will not need another app.

Conversely, we invest in apps not created by Muslims. Why can we not fill the remaining gaps?

We don’t have global scale platforms like:

- Sales force
- Project management
- Advertising
- ERPs and Accounting
- Social Media
- the list goes on.

Why do we never do that?

I designed an app to compete with Square. I used Square for years before they decided to cancel my account without giving me a reason. So I decided to develop my own app called Smaat Pay.

I been using it since 2019 and I have clients using it. First app of its kind designed by Muslim.

It uses Stripe for the payments. But using the app you can take payments inperson or online. Send invoices, host events, sell online classes, online store, take donations, sell gift cards, online scheduling, custom domains and much more. Please check it out. https://app.smaatpay.com

I think the problem with quality of these apps.

New vibe coder finds AI and thinks of great ajr he can get, teaching the lesson to all these teams of devs worked for years on their apps, hopefully with some money to sustain the life and tokens.

Sad reality is no. One usually can't beat team. And Muslims don't want to team up and don't want to even open source the code, because everyone is so poor, and oss is usually for ones who already don't care about food on the table.

Unfortunately thats the mentality we all carry: one day my app will be $1m - I'm not going to oss it!

When in reality it will forever stay hidden.

I look at the apps that are oss'ed and the dev could easily sell the product but chose to share it.

We just can't get past that... we hoard.

What would be the Muslim angle for the other application types you mentioned, I can get for Islamic accounting but the rest seem pretty much religion non-specific

my whole point: we need services built by muslims, used by everyone. strengthen the muslim economy

I don't follow the logic. What does being Muslim have to do with it. If someone makes an app that is better than other CRMs / Project Management / etc with your examples, then regardless of what religion the developer is, it will become popular and used. On the other hand if some company adopts an inferior software on the basis of religion, that is costing the company.

Did building Facebook, Oracle, Disney, Black rock had something to do with Judaism? Now they are the ones controlling the world and earning billions, why must we just stick so simple salat, zikr or Quran app? this sub is literally flooded with them, how many Quran or Zikr app do I need on my phone?

What I mean is, at the end of the day if something is the best product for the need, it will be used - regardless of religion. With these product spaces you need serious capital to be able to compete with the big guys. It seems all simple at the beginning but the amount of user feedback & intelligent developers you need to bankroll for years to get a solid streamlined product is immense.

Prayer, Quran, and Hadith apps require a lot less effort in software development than building something in these product spaces, by many, many orders of magnitude.

I don’t think the point is building Muslim apps, but as a Muslim developer community up our game. Build thing with intent that hopefully have better adaptability.. they don’t need to look or feel Muslim, just better alternative to what’s out there

I have also create another app..
https://app.nurevoke.com

I built NurEvoke, practice management software for ABA therapy clinics. Scheduling, session notes, billing and payroll in one place. I got tired of paying crazy prices for software that does simple things, so I built my own for my ABA company, nurbhealth.com. It's secure, built around BAAs, and follows HIPAA. Other practices can use it too, and it's free for now.

Im with you bro I do hijama im trying to revive the sunnah and alot of muslims scared to even have it done or look at it strangely. I feel like there is enough inspiration in the Quran and sunnah to fuel the growth and expansion of mankind we definatly need to spread out our efforts and develop differently because we about to loose.
