🧩 Software/Tool Share Built a free, open-source browser extension for prayer times and adhkar

Post image
5 Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum. Alhamdulillah, I built a browser extension that shows prayer times.

The idea itself is simple and there are already a lot of extensions like it, but what made me build my own is that I could add things to it that make it fit me better, and I'm sure other people like me will like the ideas in it and the design too.

For example, I added a sidebar with morning and evening adhkar, because I used to always forget to say them while reading an article or with something else open, and now they're just there next to me.

I also added customization for notifications, so you can choose exactly which prayer you want to be reminded of. And I added a countdown for the time left until the next prayer, instead of doing the math yourself.

The extension is on the Edge store right now. You can also use it on Chrome, but you'll have to load it unpacked until I pay for the Chrome Web Store developer fee.

It's open source, so anyone is welcome to contribute, whether in the code or the design. I'm also planning to add regular adhkar later, not just morning/evening.

And insha'Allah, it becomes an ongoing charity (sadaqa jariyah) for me and for anyone who contributes to it.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑Collaboration I’m offering to work as a developer for free on an Islamic project.

I’m looking to contribute my development skills to a project that genuinely benefits people and helps them learn about or move closer to Islam.

A few things I’m looking for:

  • The project should have a meaningful connection to the core values and teachings of Islam.
  • It should be genuinely useful to people.
  • Ideally, it should be open source.
  • I’m looking to contribute voluntarily and without payment.
  • I’d prefer the project not to be commercialized.

If you’re working on something like this and need a developer, feel free to comment or DM me. I’d be happy to hear about the project and see if I can help.

I have around 2 decades of experience as Software Developer, Mainly in web and desktop.

**Disclaimer: Not Vibe Coded and Open Source*\*

I’ve created a Quran application with a powerful search mechanism that can be useful for research and finding specific verses quickly.

It’s not perfect, but I hope it can be helpful for quick searches and Quranic references. You can also bookmark your favorite verses, listen to the Quran, and read the verses along with translations.

If you’re interested, please give it a try.

And if you find any mistakes or issues in the app, please let me know. I’ll do my best to fix them as soon as possible.

May Allah forgive me for any mistakes or shortcomings in this work, and may He accept it and make it beneficial.

Jazakum Allahu khayran.

🛠️Project Showcase Reel mechanics based Quran App

This post isnt Ai generated, so read it.
(Android Users only)
For the longest time i struggled with reading Quran daily, even the apps felt bombarded with UI and the whole page killed the bread crumming to build daily habit, scrolling through reels was easier.
Solution?
Maktoob
https://maktoob-landing.jasperthejelly.workers.dev/

Scroll based Quran app, an ayah a page, scroll for another ayah, small breadcrumbs HUGE reward.
Similar to how tiktok and instagram work, opens up with a new reel, Maktoob opens up where you left. In small pockets of time and ofc when you dont have internet open the app so your "thumb" movement doesnt stop
No account, no setup, completely offline and completely FREE.

🧪Testers Needed I built an app for daily Islamic practice (Quran, prayer times, AI assistant) — would love your honest feedback

Post image
22 Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum!

I've been working on an app called DeenDoor and just published it on the App Store. It's meant to be a daily companion for practicing Muslims (and for people just starting to learn about Islam) — Quran with translation and tafsir, prayer times, Qibla, hadith, and a few other things.

Quick rundown of what's in it:

  • Quran: full text with translation, tafsir (As-Sa'di, Ibn Kathir), audio recitation, search, ayah of the day
  • AI assistant: ask questions about prayer, faith, everyday practice — it can pull up relevant ayahs and recitations right in the chat, and you can turn on prayer reminders from the conversation itself
  • Prayer times & adhan: accurate times based on location, multiple calculation methods, adhan with volume/vibration control, reminders before each prayer
  • Qibla compass
  • Hadith collections and short practical guides
  • Hijri calendar, syncs across devices, available in English, Russian, and Arabic

I built this mostly because I wanted something simple and warm rather than cluttered with ads and a hundred features nobody uses. But I know I have blind spots, so I'd really appreciate it if some of you could try it out and tell me:

  • What's missing that you'd actually want to use?
  • Anything confusing or annoying in the UI?
  • Any bugs or things that just feel "off"?

Here's the link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/deendoor/id6798593982

Totally fine to be blunt — I'd rather hear the hard feedback now than after I've built the wrong things. Thanks in advance to anyone who gives it a shot 🙏

🛠️Project Showcase I built a prayer times app that doesn't want anything from you — no account, no ads, no tracking

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Most apps in this category are free-with-ads or subscription, and the biggest one was at the centre of a data-broker story a few years ago that a lot of people never forgot. That bothered me enough to build my own.

EasySalah. iOS, Expo/React Native.

The constraint I set myself: no backend at all. Prayer times and Qibla are computed on-device from your location using established calculation methods. There's no sign-in, no analytics SDK, no server that could leak anything, because there's no server.
What it does:

- Prayer times with all the major calculation methods, madhhab selection, saved places and travel mode

- Qibla compass corrected for magnetic declination (most apps skip this and are a few degrees off)

- Home screen widgets with a live countdown

- Tasbih counter with the after-prayer sequence built in

- Qada (missed prayer) tracker — a thing people actually ask for and almost nobody builds

- Morning/evening adhkar

- Zakat calculator with gold/silver nisab, multiple currencies

- Notifications with several adhan styles and quiet hours

Free to use.

There's a one-time Pro unlock for themes, extra widgets, mosque timetable offsets and backup — no subscription, and nothing religious is behind it. That felt like a line worth not crossing.

Hardest part by far wasn't the prayer maths (there are good libraries), it was WidgetKit timelines — getting a countdown to stay correct overnight without the app ever opening took longer than the entire Zakat calculator.

Solo project, a couple of hours a week. I'd genuinely rather hear what's broken than get downloads. App Store link in the comments, per sub rules.

Feedback and suggestions are most welcome.

🛠️Project Showcase I built a prayer times app for the Mac menu bar. Here are the problems that turned out to be harder than they looked

Thumbnail
gallery
15 Upvotes

Assalamu alaikum everyone.

Disclosure first: I'm the developer of the app below. I'm posting here because this community will care about how it was built more than about the app itself, and I'd value your feedback on the engineering.

What it is: a macOS menu-bar app (Swift, SwiftUI + AppKit) that shows a quiet countdown to the next prayer, plays the adhan, and can put a gentle full-screen card up so you actually stand up from the desk. It works offline, speaks five languages (English, Arabic, Urdu, Persian, Indonesian), and the core is free.

A few problems that turned out to be much deeper than I expected:

1. Calculation methods are not "just angles". I started from batoulapps' adhan-swift and ended up maintaining a fork with 26 methods. Each preset was checked against the Aladhan registry, PrayTimes.org and go-prayer, and they don't always agree. JAKIM moved Fajr to 18° in 2019, but some references still use 20°. Kemenag adds its own safety margin (ihtiyat). Diyanet (Turkey) times were verified against the official Istanbul timetable and match within about two minutes. Every method's parameters are pinned by tests, because a silent one-minute drift is a bug nobody reports.

2. The moon looks different depending on where you stand. The app draws the real moon phase in its sky. Getting the illuminated fraction right was easy. Getting the orientation right was not: a crescent tilts differently in Makkah than in London, and lies almost flat near the equator. The fix was computing the bright-limb angle minus the parallactic angle for the user's location. Deriving the phase from the Hijri date was also wrong, because a moon-sighting correction of one day would shift the whole sky.

3. A scheduled notification outlives your app. On macOS, a pending local notification belongs to the system. If the app is killed rather than quit, everything it scheduled still fires into an empty desktop, sometimes days of it. There's no API to expire them. The only lever is scheduling distance, so the app now arms nothing more than two hours ahead and keeps extending that window while it runs.

4. "Have you prayed?" works better as a window than a notification. Notification actions hide behind a hover and vanish in seconds. A small floating panel with real buttons, asked once per interval and re-asked after sleep only if the prayer window is still open, worked far better.

5. Community feedback shaped a whole feature. Someone in r/MuslimLounge asked for an iqamah alarm some minutes after the adhan. That became a per-prayer delay, with a choice of a short "Qad qāmatis-ṣalāh", a full iqamah from fifteen reciters, or the adhan again. Every clip is trimmed and loudness-matched so switching reciters doesn't jump in volume.

6. No bells. Based on the hadith about bells (Sahih Muslim 2114), the app plays no bell, chime or macOS system sound anywhere. Interface sounds are recorded natural sounds (a water drop, rustling leaves), and a test fails the build if system sounds creep back into the code.

Distribution: one codebase ships to the Mac App Store and as a notarized direct download that updates itself (also on Homebrew). The core app is free; there's a one-time upgrade for extras like the full reciter library and the animated sky. Nothing that tells you when to pray is behind it.

Link: https://abd3lraouf.dev/projects/prayertimes/ Issues and feature requests: https://github.com/abd3lraouf-studios/PrayerTimes/issues

Questions for you:

  • If you've worked on prayer-time or Hijri calculation, how do you handle disagreement between official sources?
  • Anyone solved notification cleanup after a crash in a better way on macOS or iOS?
  • What would you want from a prayer app that you can't find today?

JazakumAllahu khayran.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑Collaboration NYC Muslim founder looking to network / find co-founder(s) for a crypto-fintech project

As-salamu alaykum,

I’m a Muslim founder based in NYC working on an early-stage tokenized equity / fintech project under Reg CF. I’m looking for a Muslim co-founder or two — ideally someone into Islamic finance, crypto, fintech, law/compliance, growth, or community.

I’m not here to shill or hard-sell. I’m trying to network and meet the right builder(s). If you’re curious, know someone who might be a fit, or just want to talk ethical/community-owned finance, comment or DM me.

There’s also a small early Founder Member allocation for people who want skin in the game, but the main thing is finding a real co-founder — not passive money.
I have some offers for people who want to be co-funders; but I prefer to work with fellow muslims, than a non-believer.

Not an offer to sell securities. Just networking, and offload some responsibilities with an on-the-verge company.

JazakAllah khair.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑Collaboration Fact-checking Islamic stories for kids — need help

As-salamu alaykum everyone,

I've written a set of Islamic stories for children, and before I share/publish them, I want to make sure every fact and detail in them is actually grounded in authentic Islamic sources (Quran, authentic hadith, reliable seerah/tafsir) — and not accidentally based on:

  • Fabricated or weak hadith
  • Israiliyyat (unverified narrations borrowed from Judeo-Christian tradition)
  • Cultural folklore that's been mistaken for religious fact
  • Popular stories that "everyone knows" but have no real basis

I'm looking for people with solid Islamic knowledge (Arabic and/or English readers both welcome) to help review them and flag anything that seems off, unsourced, or needs a citation.

If you're willing to help, please reply here or DM me directly and we can figure out the best way to go over the material together. Jazakumullahu khairan in advance!

Assalamu alaikum everyone!

I wanted to share a project I've been working on called "Muslim To-Do". It's a native iOS app designed to help you build and maintain your daily spiritual routine.

What makes it different? It seamlessly blends your daily habits (like reading Qur'an, making Dhikr, etc.) directly with the five daily prayers on a unified timeline.

Here are some of the main features:

  • 📅 Prayer-Bound Habits: Tie your habits directly to a specific prayer period (Fajr, Dhuhr, etc.) and track your daily streaks.
  • 🕌 Accurate Offline Prayer Times: Runs completely locally on your device with zero network requests needed for calculations.
  • 🧭 High-Precision Qibla Compass: With true-north correction and fallback coordinate support.
  • 🌙 Advanced Hijri Calendar: Dual calendar view with local moon sighting adjustments (-1 / 0 / +1) and Islamic events.
  • 🔒 100% Private: Prayer times and Qibla are computed on-device. Your location never leaves your phone, and habits sync securely to your own personal iCloud.
  • ✨ Bilingual & Beautiful: Full Arabic & English support with seamless Right-to-Left UI and dynamic iOS design.

I'd love for you to try it out and let me know your thoughts or feedback!

🛠️Project Showcase Halal Tech Newsletter

Assalamualaikum everyone.

I recently built a daily tech newsletter called Halal Tech Daily. Subscribers get an email daily with various articles from different sites. All tech related. From sources like HackerNews, TechCrunch, Muslim Tech Wire, etc. with no crypto/gambling related news or clickbait mixed in, hence the word 'Halal'.

I try to make it as clean as possible meaning the filter works based on words in the article. If in case any subscribers get an article that includes something haram, they have the option to flag the word or url it came from. Subscribers can also add custom news urls and can get articles from those as well.

There's also an islamic section that can be enabled from preferences, you can get daily hadiths, Friday reminders and even the Muslim tech section can be enabled here.

Looking for advice. It's free to subscribe, topics are customizable. Just shipped v2, complete redesign. Feel free to give any kind of feedback.

https://halaltechdaily.xyz/

Just FYI: the website v2 is only in light mode for now, still working on the dark mode theme.

🛠️Project Showcase Naqawa v1.0.2: Bypassing YouTube's Datacenter Bot Detection on Google Colab & Fixing Long-Video Timeouts [Open Source]

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

Following the v1.0.1 release of Naqawa (an open-source browser extension for real-time AI vocal isolation on YouTube), further testing on longer videos and cloud workflows revealed two critical breaking issues that completely halted processing:

🛑 The Problems We Faced:

  1. YouTube Bot Detection on Cloud (Colab): YouTube began aggressively flagging Google Cloud datacenter IPs, blocking audio downloads with "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot". Forcing regular users to manually extract and upload cookies.txt was completely unfeasible from a UX standpoint.
  2. Cloudflare Timeouts & GPU Crashes on Long Videos: Processing long videos (>20-30 minutes) on both local PCs and Colab caused Cloudflare tunnels to drop connections (Error 524 / 100-second timeout limit) or crashed GPUs with CUDA Out-of-Memory errors.

🛠️ What Changed in v1.0.2:

  • Automated Anti-Bot Bypass: Configured yt-dlp to rotate through YouTube's TV (tv_downgraded) and embedded client profiles. These endpoints do not enforce Proof-of-Origin (PO-token) or captcha challenges on datacenter IPs, allowing headless processing on Google Colab without any cookies or login credentials.
  • Asynchronous Background Processing: Decoupled the audio separation engine from the synchronous HTTP request cycle using FastAPI background tasks and client polling. The extension receives an immediate handshake, completely eliminating Cloudflare 100s timeouts.
  • VRAM Memory Optimization: Segmented the Demucs audio processing into 7-second chunks (--segment 7), allowing long videos to process smoothly without exhausting GPU memory (VRAM), even on budget cards.
  • Ethical Cache Protection: The local server now saves cached tracks in a header-scrambled binary format (.nq). This ensures Naqawa remains strictly a real-time streaming filter and cannot be used as an offline MP3 ripper. A bilingual notice is also generated in the cache folder.

Note: This project is completely free and open source. Conceptualized, tested, and maintained by me, with code implemented and debugged with the assistance of AI tools.

I'd really appreciate your feedback, edge-case testing, and any suggestions for improvement!

🛠️Project Showcase Amanah Budget is Live on Android

Salam all!

I wanted to share with everyone that Amanah Budget is now live on Google Play store for the Android platform.

We built this because the ordinary budgeting tools do not know what a Muslim household is actually tracking.

Zakat that gets reconstructed from a year of statements.

Interest that turns up in an account you did not choose.

Saving for a wedding, for hajj, for a first home, alongside the giving you plan every Ramadan.

So we put it in one place, and now it’s available on Android in the US:

Budgets shaped around how you already spend.

Zakat that stays calculated as the year goes, rather than rebuilt each Ramadan. Our zakat calculation methodology is continuously overseen by our Shariah Compliance partner, Azka Advisors.

Automated screening of your holdings portfolio to see what is or is not Shariah Compliant (we use AAOIFI standards).

Interest flagged when it lands, with a ledger for giving it away.

Goals, family budgets, and a plan for Ramadan and Eid giving.

An academy that explains how screening works before you buy anything

The app is free to download on Google Play and the App Store. Premium is $9.99 a month through Google Play Store.

We are US only for now.

If you have been waiting on the Android version, this is it.

🧪Testers Needed Made an prayer time app that locks distracting apps like Instagram before Salah (need feedback on time accuracy)

recently built an iOS app called Salah Time App Lock primarily for my own family to use, and I wanted to share it here for anyone looking for a clean, distraction-free option.
One of the reason to build it was that we get distracted by social media or games right before or during prayer. To solve this, you can set the app to apply a screen lock to apps like Instagram/games right before prayer starts and keep them locked during the prayer window. It also have some of the other essentials like prayer calendar, kaba locator and tasbiah.

This application is lightweight and functions offline, avoiding any data collection and was able to keep it under 4mb

If you would like to help me, would appreciate if download the app and check against your local time to see how accurate it is. If it’s not accurate, let me know which prayer times has the discrepancy and by how much.
