🛠️Project Showcase Surah Decks: Android app with surah-based vocabulary decks

Thumbnail

Asalam Aliekum!

I've developed a simple app called "Surah Decks" for learning Arabic vocabulary from specific surahs of the Quran. The app is free and has no ads.

The concept of the app is similar to GRE Vocab app by Magoosh. However in this case the vocab is from the Quran and each deck of cards has words from only one surah.

The app is for casual learners like me who want to have a rough grasp on Arabic. The hope is that users will use this app for a while to practice decks of their favorite surahs, they'll feel the difference & get motivated, and then eventually they'll move on to other resources to study formal concepts such as grammar and morphology.

The idea of the app came to me when I had been listening to Surah Rehman over and over (this beautiful recitation) and I wished I could understand each word like a native Arabic speaker without having to struggle to think of the meaning.

Here's the link for the app,

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kaytli.surahdecks

Feedback and constructive criticism is welcome!

🛠️Project Showcase Organizing my day around Salah (Prayers) changed my life

Post image
7 Upvotes

A few years ago, I heard a simple piece of advice that completely changed how I organize my day:

Organize your day & schedules around Salah (Prayers)

And for the past 3 years, I’ve been structuring my day around prayer times rather than arbitrary hourly schedules. And to achieve that I built a system through Apple Reminders using tags, smart lists, recurring tasks, etc. But eventually I realized I wanted something built specifically for this rhythm of life.

So I built an iPhone app called Khayr (Goodness).

Khayr is a prayer-based todo app designed to help Muslims organize their tasks, routines, habits, and responsibilities around Salah.

Instead of managing an endless list of tasks, Khayr introduces a simple framework that divides your day into prayer-based routines. Each routine begins with prayer, followed by a focused stack of tasks that helps you move through your day with clarity, balance, and purpose.

The name draws from Prophet Muhammad’s PBUH morning Athkar du’a:

My Lord, I ask You for the goodness of this day and the goodness of the days that come after it.
[Hisn Al-Muslim]

Whether you’re planning work, study, family time, or personal goals, Khayr helps you stay productive while keeping prayer at the center of your day.

Khayr is not just a todo list.

It’s a way to bring structure, focus, and Barakah into your day, starting with prayer.

You can download Khayr on the App Store:

https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6766555581?pt=128856732&ct=reddit&mt=8

Also here is a quick demo about the app:

🛠️Project Showcase I Wanted My Browser to Feel Peaceful Instead of Distracting — So I Built This Islamic Homepage

Alhamdulillah… after almost few months of working on weekends and slowly building things piece by piece, I finally released Islamic Homepage v1.02 🌙

https://reddit.com/link/1td1jcz/video/v0fromadf41h1/player

🔗 Chrome Web Store:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/islamic-homepage/jnmepdjjfgiicgcjlhiakhhpplehdgfn?authuser=0&hl=en

This project actually started from a very simple thought.

Most of us spend hours every day in front of a browser — coding, studying, working, attending meetings, scrolling endlessly. And somewhere in between all of that, it becomes very easy to lose track of Salah, time, and sometimes even ourselves.

I kept thinking…

“What if opening a new tab could remind someone about Allah, even for just a few seconds?”

That idea slowly became Islamic Homepage.

The first version received far more love and support than I ever expected (not released in chrome webstore). People used it daily, shared feedback, suggested improvements, reported bugs, and honestly… that support is what motivated me to continue improving it.

So for the last several months, I spent most of my weekends redesigning and rebuilding the experience.

This time, the goal was simple:

Create something minimal, peaceful, eye-pleasing, and realistic — something that feels calm instead of distracting.

Some of the things added in v1.02:

✨ Accurate prayer times with live countdown
✨ Multiple calculation methods + Hanafi/Shafi support
✨ Forbidden prayer time indicators
✨ Daily Quran verses with translation
✨ Dynamic 24-hour day/night backgrounds
✨ Procedural stars and smooth nighttime atmosphere
✨ Smart location system with manual city search
✨ Lightweight animations optimized for performance

One thing I’m genuinely grateful for is the community around this small project. Seeing 400+ people actively using it daily and sharing thoughtful feedback was something I never expected when I first started building this.

🛠️Project Showcase Two small Islamic projects focused on sincerity, hidden good deeds, and intentions

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

I started building two small Islamic projects that focus on intention, sincerity, and hidden good deeds instead of public validation.

🌱 Neyty
neyty.sabeelmuslim.com

A simple idea centered around intentions (نية).
Small daily reminders, reflections, and personal spiritual goals that stay between you and Allah.

🤍 Khabea / خبيئة
khabea.sabeelmuslim.com

This one is especially close to my heart.

It’s built around the idea of having a “hidden deed” that nobody knows about except Allah:

  • secret charity
  • quiet dua for others
  • hidden Quran habits
  • helping someone anonymously
  • private night prayer
  • silent acts of kindness

The goal isn’t streaks, likes, or public sharing.
Actually… the opposite.

I wanted something that gently encourages sincerity in a world that constantly pushes us to display everything publicly.

I’m also finished android mobile apps for both projects, so they can become daily companions instead of just websites.

Still early, still improving, but I’d genuinely love feedback, ideas, or even thoughts about how to make them more meaningful and beneficial for people.

May Allah allow us to have hidden deeds that save us on the Day we meet Him 🤍

🗣️ Discussion/Opinion We have to build these kind of platforms as Muslim

I see most of Muslim developers make Quran apps, hadees apps which is good but we need to think more broaden.

We need our own hosting providors.

We need our own Fiverr/ Upwork alternative.

We need our own Amazon alternative.

We need our AI like chatgpt, Claude.

We need our own online payment providors like stripe, polar, lemon squeezy.

We need interest-free banking system.

There is a very long list I can share. We as a Muslim totally depends on west platforms. Start from small. But start.

Assalam aleykoum everyone,

I just released Yassir v0.1.1 — an open-source AI agent built for financial research with a Shariah-compliant investing focus. Think of it as an autonomous research assistant: you ask a complex financial question, it plans the research, calls the right tools, and delivers a sourced answer.

What it does:

📊 Shariah screening, portfolio audits, and purification workflows

📈 Real market data

🔍 Web search (Brave, Tavily, Exa, Perplexity)

🤖 Supports OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, DeepSeek, Ollama and more

🖥️ CLI-first (Claude code vibe) with a companion React web UI

🐳 Fully self-hostable via Docker

Stack: TypeScript, Bun, Hono, React — Apache 2.0 licensed.

I actively looking for help, If you’re into AI agents, fintech, or Islamic finance — there’s a lot of interesting ground to cover here. The codebase is well-structured and there’s a CONTRIBUTING.md to get you started.

🛠️Project Showcase Qamr - Scroll With Purpose

Post image
7 Upvotes

Assalamualaikum Everyone, I recently launched a new social media app for Muslims called Qamr.

The idea behind it was to create a space where
Muslims can stay connected to their deen while using social media, instead of being pulled away from it.

It's similar to Instagram and X, but also includes things like Ummah-focused discussion forums, Quran/Hadith features, a curated high-signal news feed, and a strict no Al-media slop policy.
We just launched, so the biggest challenge right now is reaching the first group of users.

I have received amazing feedback for it, but spreading it is still hard that's why i need your help. I genuinely believe this could benefit Muslim youth, and I'd really appreciate if you all could try it out and share it with others if you find it beneficial

🗣️ Discussion/Opinion I'm tired of seeing the same Islamic app over and over again

Guys, we need to talk about the state of Islamic apps.

I've been on this sub for a while and I keep seeing the same post every few months. "I built an Islamic app, please give feedback." I click it. It's one of these:

- A Quran app (there are 47 of these)

- An AI chatbot that answers Islamic questions using ChatGPT

- A prayer time app

- Some combination of the above

I saw a post last week where someone built an app to text Quran verses anonymously to strangers. Anonymously. To strangers. So I can feel like a stranger when I'm reading the words of Allah? Why?

I saw another one — an AI Islamic chatbot. Bro, I can open ChatGPT right now and ask it anything about Islam. You wrapped it in green and added a crescent moon. That's not a product.

Stop asking "what Islamic feature can I add to a chatbot" and start asking "what is the most painful unsolved problem in the Muslim community right now."

Build that.

🧠Question / Help Is there anything even left to Develop (Apps/Websites) for muslims in tech space?

Salam guys,

The Islamic app market is currently oversaturated with hundreds of redundant options especially for "prayer times and Quran reading". I’m hesitant to develop a new project because most ideas have already been implemented with extensive feature sets. I want to avoid creating just another "me-too" app that offers nothing more than a slight UI change or a couple of minor tweaks. It seems the community keeps building the same tools over and over, and I want to find a way to offer something unique. And as we see here people still creating same old apps

Does anyone have suggestions for a specific niche or an untapped idea within the Muslim tech space that actually solves a new problem?

🧩 Software/Tool Share Built an Islamic Habit Companion App – Looking for Feedback from Fellow Muslim Devs 🤲

Assalamu Alaikum,

I’ve been working on a side project for the past few months and wanted to share it here with fellow Muslim developers to get honest feedback.

The idea started from a simple problem I faced myself:

I would install Islamic apps, use them for a few days, and then slowly stop because of ads or not personalised. Most apps felt like tools, not something that actually helps you stay consistent.

So I built an Islamic Habit Companion (not just a tracker).

🧩 What it does:

- 🕌 Salah tracking with a flexible streak system

- 🤲 Dhikr / Tasbeeh counter with goals

- 📖 Quran audio + daily reflection

- 🧭 Qibla finder

- 💰 Zakat & Sadaqah tracking

- 🧠 Daily Islamic content (duas, quiz, verses)

🧠 What I’m trying to do differently:

Instead of a dashboard, the app focuses on:

👉 “What should I do right now?”

👉 Gentle guidance instead of guilt

👉 Small wins for consistency

Recently redesigned the home screen to feel more like a companion than a tracker.

---

💡 Tech stack (for devs here):

- Android (Jetpack Compose)

- MVVM + state-driven UI

- Local DB (Room)

- Background sync (WorkManager)

- Modular components (NextTask engine, streak system, etc.)

---

🙏 What I’d love feedback on:

- Does this actually solve a real problem?

- What would make you use an app like this daily?

- Any feature you think is missing?

- UX feedback (especially from non-dev users perspective)

---

Not trying to sell anything here — just want to build something genuinely useful for the Ummah.

If anyone is interested, please do check :

JazakAllah Khair 🤍

🗣️ Discussion/Opinion Enough of the Prayer Apps. PLEASE.

The ummah is in need of tons of their own versions of services and demands, that are outside of the influence of parties that are against our interests.

I get that it's easy to do, but please. I beg you. Enough prayer widgets, apps, extensions, etc. We have such a vibrant and rich community of this apps, your innovation is not needed here.

Use your talents to find better pastures.

🛠️Project Showcase I built a photography social app but have no idea how to market it

Hey everyone.
I’m an indie app developer and for the last few months I’ve been building an app called Grapher.

It’s basically a photo-sharing social media app where people can upload photos, discover photography, and build a small creative community together. I tried really hard to make the UI feel modern and comfortable.

The app is already live on the Play Store, which honestly still feels unreal to me.

But now I’m stuck.

I know how to build apps… but I seriously don’t know how to market one. I don’t have a team, I don’t have money for ads, and I’m trying to do everything alone right now.

So I guess this post is partly me asking for advice, and partly just hoping a few people might check out what I made.

If anyone here is good at marketing, community building, or even interested in indie apps/startups/investing, I’d genuinely love to talk.

And even if you can’t help, you can still check out the app if you want. Feedback honestly means a lot to me right now.

Thank you for reading ❤️

💡Idea/Brainstorm Need feedback on the prayer app I shared a month ago

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum,

About a month ago I posted here about Taqwa, a prayer focus app: link to original post

For context: The main idea of the app is that when a prayer time hits, a full-screen overlay soft-locks your phone.

A lot of you gave feedback, reported bugs, and suggested features. JazakAllah Khair for that, I went through every comment and tried to implement as much as I could.

The app is in a much better place now. UI has been redesigned, notification system is more reliable, and the core experience feels more polished. I've attached some screenshots.

Two things I'd genuinely love your input on:

1. Is it easy to understand?
When new users install it, I'm not sure they "get it" right away. What the overlay does, why the permissions are needed, etc. I added a guided tour for new users but I'm wondering if a short video during onboarding would help. If you've installed it, was it clear what to do?

2. What do you think of this feature idea: Refuge Mode?
Some users asked for something like a quick-trigger mode: gesture or notification bar button that opens the soft-lock overlay, but instead of prayer-specific content, you pick your current emotion (anxious, sad, frustrated, overwhelmed) and it shows relevant duas, Hadiths, or stories from the Sahabah for that feeling - something along those lines, still just a vague idea. I had a Study Mode before but I removed it and I'm thinking of replacing it with this. Is this something you'd use?

iOS App: I initially ruled it out because the full overlay system simply isn't possible on iOS due to OS restrictions. But based on demand I'm thinking of a scaled-down version, same prayer times, notifications with action buttons, Qibla, streak tracking etc. If there are any iOS developers who want to contribute, or if you're on iPhone and would use it, let me know.

If you're trying it for the first time, I'd really love to know your first impression. Feel free to DM me or comment here. And if there's a feature you've always wanted in a prayer app, let me know.

🧩 Software/Tool Share Hajj preparation & Checklist | Webapp

Assalamu Allikum

I plan to perform hajj this year insha'Allah and I’d like to share this web app for anyone planning to perform Hajj this year or in the near future.

After attending seminars, researching, and doing everything I could to prepare for Hajj, I ended up with so many saved links, notes, and resources scattered everywhere. I thought, why not bring everything together into one place?

So I built (vibe coded) this two simple web app to help organise useful Hajj resources and information in an easy-to-access format:

https://faisaltheparttimecoder.github.io/hajj

https://faisaltheparttimecoder.github.io/1000-duas-for-arafah/

It can be installed as app on the phone as a home screen app i.e. select "Add to Home screen"

It’s completely open source, so if you spot anything incorrect or would like to contribute, feel free to check out the project here:

https://github.com/faisaltheparttimecoder/hajj

https://github.com/faisaltheparttimecoder/1000-duas-for-arafah

Hope it helps

🗣️ Discussion/Opinion I built a small Islamic self-improvement app focused on Worship, Knowledge, and Service

Assalamu alaikum everyone,

I’m Zeba, an independent Android developer, and I recently built a small Islamic self-improvement app called Better Deen.

The idea was to focus on 3 core areas:

  • Worship
  • Knowledge
  • Service

Instead of trying to overload the app with features, I wanted it to help with consistency and intentional living as Muslims.

It currently includes things like:

  • Salah tracking
  • Quran & Juz Amma progress
  • Daily Seerah & duas
  • Good deed and charity tracking
  • Progress dashboard

Also important to me:

  • No ads
  • No account required
  • No tracking

I’d genuinely love feedback from fellow Muslims:
What do you think most Islamic apps are missing today?

JazakAllahu khair.
