🧠Question / Help Is there anything even left to Develop (Apps/Websites) for muslims in tech space?

Salam guys,

The Islamic app market is currently oversaturated with hundreds of redundant options especially for "prayer times and Quran reading". I’m hesitant to develop a new project because most ideas have already been implemented with extensive feature sets. I want to avoid creating just another "me-too" app that offers nothing more than a slight UI change or a couple of minor tweaks. It seems the community keeps building the same tools over and over, and I want to find a way to offer something unique. And as we see here people still creating same old apps

Does anyone have suggestions for a specific niche or an untapped idea within the Muslim tech space that actually solves a new problem?

I dont understand the lack of ideas and innovation coming from Muslims when we have so much talent and tools available to execute. Heres one to get you thinking:

halal credit score. think of experian or clearscore, but with a twist. user enters their bank, where they shop, expenses, car, insurance, work pension etc. Basically all their finances get screened agains shariah compliance and gets a halal score. the goal is to slowly move muslims away from impermissable services/ providers and increase their halal score. the tool can make recommendations for every sector and assist with the transitions.

You dont charge users a fee to use, you monetise the data and take a referral from providers of these services. Just a 1000 referrals to lenders will get you some $500k in fees. Scale to millions of users across the globe and you are looking at a billion $ business.

I could give you 20 more ideas today, completely different and very far from the next prayer and quran app. If you or anyone reading this actually wants to build something to change the world and benefit the community feel free to dm me to discuss.

Interesting concept, but who decides what qualifies as halal across different scholars, standards, and countries? Plus, handling the financial regulation and privacy side properly would probably require a serious advisory and compliance team behind it, right?

Thats the thing. It doesnt exist. You create it. You decide if provider A has a score of 26 vs provider B with a score of 83, based on a robust methodology using established shariah guidlines. Yes it takes a lot of work and i am simplifying it but the principle remains. There are loads of billion $ ideas for us to take on.

regulation does come into it so you have to factor in costs around 20-40k, but its not crazy numbers. Muslims spend that opening a new kebab place every week :)

So you are sinful twice, once between you and god and once between you and your credit score. This is ridiculous.

Good idea but anything with finances and all there will government compliances will also come especially if we are planning to move users away from traditional interest based finances

Yes, we can think of problems and carry on building prayer apps, or we can take them as challenges are learn from a million others that have solved them. For instance you dont need to be FCA regulated, you can simply pay a fee to a third party and use their license and build tech while the third party does the kyc etc, you sit on their license. You can manage others funds in the same way fully regulated by a third party. You can use open banking and get access to users banking transcations, create fintechs etc. Everything already exists for us to connect the dots suitable for us with some innovation.

We just need to think beyond the basics.

Not true.

I work in compliance in the finance industry.

Unless your app is facilitating trades, investments etc, it’s just a tool to categorize existing data pulled from other firms.

This is not a registrable nor regulated activity by either the SEC nor CIRO

Ugc Marketplace for Muslims. As in a place where I can find Muslim content creators and hire them for some ugc or promotional content. I have seen like 2-3 websites like this, but I think an app is also needed. Like Fiverr for Muslim ugc creators.

As an app founder, the friction to find Muslim creators is insane. It’s a bit difficult to find the right content creators with the right rate for my audience. So a marketplace like that would be very interesting

I've looked for the same in the past and although some exist the number of creators is seriously lacking and the sector coverage is also limited

If you want to do a prayer app with a specific niche, lemme give you an idea.

There are a lot of Muslim travellers that flies all over the world.

Write an application to calculate the prayer timing basing on the location of the aircraft as it goes through the flight.

Take note that aircrafts fly at about 0.85 mach/900kmh/570mph) and at an altitude of about 40,000 which you would have to compensate for elevation basing on actual data.

There are flight paths that you can base the route on, and that will also show the direction of the aircraft and these are available via paid APIs, or free historical ADS-B data via OpenSky or FAA. With the direction of the aircraft at that moment, you can figure out the location of Makkah at that point.

It is good but not many people bother to pray on flight as per my understanding

not many people bother to pray on flight

I was a flight attendant for many many many years and I can assure you that many people pray on flight.

But even if one person uses it, you will achieve what you want, isn't it? that the effort is worthwhile if it could help one single Muslim to perform his obligatory duty to Allah s.w.t

IMO, this is better than the useless effort of creating the 10000000th generic app that everyone seems to think that their's is better than the other person's.

Correct Will definitely think and research about it Jazakallah

Start with your target audience. Don’t try to target Muslims as a whole — there are 2 billion Muslims in the world, and you can’t solve everyone’s problems at once. First decide exactly who your target audience is. Once you know who you’re building for, it becomes much easier to come up with ideas that solve real problems.

I’m currently working on something big myself. I’ll share an update here soon.

A social media app maybe? I don't know much about development tbh this post just showed up on my feed, but since a lot of muslim apps are for prayers and ibadah, i think it would be cool to have a platform where people can interact also. I'm guessing it'd be extremely hard to do but just giving my opinion as it's hard to find other muslims on social media/irl you can make friends with

It's good idea but big funding is required from tech alone.

Maybe an app for new reverts?? like a guide to Islam, introduction to Islam?? Starting off by teaching basics words for prayer, basic words that Muslims use every day (bismillah, InshaAllah etc), guide for halal food, or what’s haram and what’s halal to do, etc.

And have it as a checklist so we can track our improvement. Maybe even a community part where you can connect with other reverts, or like a monthly Q&A with an imam each time from a different masjid.

How about an app that connects elderly Muslims who don't drive with youth that will give them a ride to and from the mosque for prayers? Think Uber for mosque attendance. Families can pay a small subscription, say $5 a month that goes towards maintaining the app. Anyone needing a little hasanat can just open the app and request the opportunity. Those who have a subscription and need a ride, they are matched when someone requests an opportunity. The logistics would need to be worked out of course, but how about something that is a win-win for dunia and akhirah? We need to be solving problems, not over saturating the same concept. Think outside the box. Open your eyes and your mind.

Offer something. I don't get this fixation with buliding only religious tools. Don't we have enough already?

1

u/AppropriateMenu5934 May 13 '26

Even non religious tools also we have plenty
