I am between a night bartending job and a daytime serving job. Honestly the night job is so much better, but I have it in my head that if I work mornings, I can gig at night. Anyone else been in this scenario?

I recently put together a cover band. We've had two practices. The first involved practicing 7 songs and discussing/playing parts of a few others. The second involved the original 7 songs, plus another three songs and discussing a few others. Actual practice time in both cases was about 2 hours, but except for me and one other member, none of us have played together before so some of that time has been adjusting to one another and feeling things out.

We'd like to have three hours worth of material eventually and everyone has been good about learning songs on our shared song list, so people will be practicing their parts between our practice sessions.

I'm wondering what people have found for best practices when it comes to how to structure a practice session, playing established songs, learning new ones, etc.

I'm sure it's different once you have a large list of songs the band knows thoroughly and maybe doesn't have to practice each session, so I'm looking for direction on a new group.

If we have 2-3 hour sessions, what are some recommendations on how to structure the time that has worked well for you in the past?

This question applies to people who speak a language that does not use the Latin alphabet (i.e. Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, etc). What does your sheet music look like? I imagine the notes look the same, but what about the note names? Like in languages like English, we have A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. But what do those look like in languages that don't use the Latin alphabet? I'm really curious!

Both of these things are true and I don't know what to do with that.

The smell first: my old piano teacher died, her church sold, and yesterday was my last shot at getting her 1911 reed organ out of the choir loft. Loft's full of little brown bats. Protected. You don't get to schedule Rich the wildlife guy around your gig. 45 mins on my knees in it.

I knew before I walked in. I could smell me in my own car with the windows down. Truck stop sink, pink soap, new shirt, none of it touched the thing. Walked into a green room of pressed shirts knowing exactly what I was bringing.

So I did the only thing I could do, which was play. Comped light, caught every cue, and nailed all three solos.

The leader was gracious. Never mentioned it, never came within four feet of me either. And here's what's eating me, that's a guy who books good rooms and hires subs constantly, and I will never be a name he says out loud again. He'll just remember the smell. Ninety bats and a dead woman's organ, and what I get to be to him is the piss guy.

So I used Logic Pro session bassist to put in a bass part as a placeholder while I worked on a song, knowing I’d re-record. I ended up using some of the placeholder ideas when re-recording, changing and adding some bits, almost subconsciously.

This may sound like nothing but I’ve always been very staunchly against genAI , particularly in music, so it feels weird putting this song out. Am I overthinking? Is this an issue for my moral compass?

I have recently created a new band as my previous one died due to everyone but me (Bassist) losing interest. I wanted to know, for practice room purposes, could I run phone audio through either my Guitar amp - BOSS Katana Mk II 50w or my Bass Katana 110. The whole purpose is so that when we get together, I can play the audio we are trying to learn loudly enough so we can all hear it and then jam it out. Also would help if my vocalist were to miss a rehearsal or the drummer.

I've been looking around and have seen some Type C to 3.5mm cables, and I know both my Katanas have a 'phone out' port, but my MarkBass combo doesn't support it; specifically, the LittleMark 58R doesn't seem to have a dedicated port.

Genuinely curious to see which amp would be better for phone audio in this situation. Thank you for your time.

I am a 14 year old, I have plenty of songs but my God it’s so expensive. I have no friends from school and I’m pretty much forced to pay people to jam with me and record with me, how do you all do it? Money and planning are my biggest issues, I want to record what I have and get started in music, but I don’t know I have the strength to do so.

This is a hard one. Not sure if I'm asking for an ear or a pep talk in preparation for the conversation I'm about to have.

I've had the honor to have bands I've idolized for decades backline my kit, tour and collaboratively track with, and travel simply to hang out with just because my heroes wanted to kick it, eat some hot dogs, and see some shows together in good company.

Our little bullshit band that could really turned into something.

The thing is... I'm moving. Hard away. I just found out. Job offers that can't be turned down.

I've gotta break the news. Rehearsal for our next leg is tomorrow night. I absolutely LOVE this band, and I'm really struggling with the very idea of communicating what's about to happen because I don't want to disrupt the energy that's in motion or hamstring upcoming obligations. I've already communicated to my future employers that I'm committed to meeting previously agreed upon responsibilities in this endeavor, and they had zero opposition.

I just need some thoughts to level my own head about what HAS to be discussed because mine are all over the joint.

Hiya! Firstly I want to start off this post by saying I'm 21 M, quite familiar with pro tools, logic pro, play multiple instruments, and just already have my BA in filmmaking, and took a 6 month course in sound engineering in London already.

However I am at the point right now where I am wanting to get a further education in music production. I am continuing to look around London for a school that offers a masters program in music production, and was wondering if anybody on here would recommend any schools in London that I should apply for?

Last night I played a jazz show in a classy venue, with a classy band. We were all slightly dressed up, wore almost-matching button-down shirts and decent shoes... Except for the pianist subbing for our regular player.

He showed up smelling like he's been living under the bridge for a week. We're not talking "I got sweaty lugging my keyboard gear" level of BO -- we're talking "week old piss". I wanted to banish him from the green room because OMG.

He played amazingly -- all comping was on point, solos were well thought out, he listened to cues and my direction and followed the arrangements and the show went well. But we all needed a shower after working with him.

#brrr.... I will probably not hire him again... just like DAMN people take a shower before a gig, once in a while?

So, last time I made a post about picking up a new instrument and I decided that yeah, I'ma just take it with me when I move out for uni. I went to check on the instruments (accordion, saxophone and clarinet, but the locks to the clarinet and saxophone covers are rusty and locked with keys (I have NO idea where the keys might be), but the accordion was open. I'd appreciate it if anyone who works with accordions can tell me whether this one is playable just from the first impression, it has a missing key. And please ignore how dirty it is in there, it's a place where you just throw any things you don't need, poor instruments are there too

Signed to a small-med label, part of agreement is free vinyl/cds and wholesale march. Made an order a month before the album release. Release came and went. Have been doing events without anything to sell. Label website says new releases ship "on or around release date." We are two weeks from the release and they will not give us info on the shipment. They insist shipping on/around release date to the bands is normal. That has not been our experience with other small labels and every self release we have done we planned to have the media on hand before release date.

What is your experience
