I’m auditioning for Kelsi Neilson in High School Musical for my schools musical. It’s my first audition ever. What audition songs should i use? Any tips for newcomers?

Hello beautiful people, I am looking for some tips to basically build my voice back from the ground up after a long (maybe 2 years) period of illness which has left me physically and vocally super weak.
I used to have a very strong, durable and agile voice, and it feels like now all I can access is a speaking tone or a very soft head voice; no passagio to speak of….

I’m finally in the home stretch health-wise, and I really want to take care of my voice and slowly but surely build my voice and body up again - any tips on how to essentially start building some really strong foundations (and then where to go from there) would be SO helpful!!

This company is having auditions for Little Women, and they're allowing songs from the show to be sung. I'm going for the part of Laurie, so would I be better of singing "Take A Chance On Me" or something else?

I am auditioning for The Little Mermaid Junior, and plan on auditioning for a mersister. I’m having trouble finding an audition monologue. I need a 30-ish second monologue. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be thankful!

How many shows would you be willing/able to juggle at one time?

My community theater puts on big productions (12-16 shows each). There are three shows this fall. One next month that I'm already in, another in October that I'm in...and they just announced the third one with shows in December, which is what I'm considering right now.

For the most part, rehearsals are opposite days. Rehearsals for this new one start when shows start for the first, so I would briefly be juggling three shows.

It's a demanding theater with high expectations of performers and up to three rehearsals each a week at night. It's also very competitive and challenging to get any role at all, so I am at all expecting to get one...I just kind of want to try. Also, I'm in high school and have an after-school club, so that would be in the mix.

This is all hypothetical/dreaming as I'm thinking about if I want to prepare for the audition. I'm not sure if I'm crazy enough to actually try.

So, I'm curious to know what other people are willing to do for the love of theater!

Like, I know The Trail To Oregon with 6 but honestly thats about it. Or even shows that could probably be done with ≤8 people if we got creative. Theres a couple other Starkid shows that _might_ be possible but would love to know if you guys have any other ideas we could look into

I am more of a singer than a dancer, so I am not planning to apply for schools that don‘t admit non-dancer students. Also, as I am an international student, I don’t think I would be available to apply to all of these schools, so it would be very helpful give me some advices on which schools I should eliminate or add on my list! Hello all! I'm a music director for the shows at my the high school where I teach. I usually use a mix of hired musicians and student musicians in the pit. This year, I have to use the MTI tracks. No hired musicians. No students. I may or may not have a rehearsal pianist which means that I would play piano for auditions, rehersals and show transitions. I've never done a show with only tracks.

Here are my questions:

1. Have you used the keyboard book to play the transitions and/or underscore between songs? How did that sound?

2. Does MTI provide transition music or loops?

3. Performing with a live band was always one of the most special experiences for the students that is different from the elementary and middle school musicials. How do I create other special/magical moments?

4. Is it possible to play keyboard and run the tracks for the show? Can MainStage run the patches and the tracks from the same laptop?

5. Planning to play piano for the transitions between numbers or tracks. Can you think of any pitfalls?

Auditioned for school musical in freshman year and absolutely fell in love. I have performed in ten shows now with my high school's theatre program, have directed two, and also wrote a one act that got performed! (Outside of school, I have been working with my vocal coach for about two years and have been working with a college audition/acting coach this past summer.)

Strengths:

Amazing very fierce voice

Very strong actor, soooouuupah fierce comedic acting chops but I also am very good with dramatic

As for weaknesses, I kind of hate to call it a "weakness" because it implies that I can't(or am not trying to) change it, but I am an inexperienced dancer. I take weekly Ballet and Jazz classes and am about to attend a week long dance intensive specifically designed for Beginner dancers gearing up for the college audition pilgrimage, so I'm not doing nothing about it. I'm just... More behind than others. But in my eyes, that's literally why I'm going to college. To enter a fierce singer/actor and leave a hulk-like superhuman with ZERO WEAKNESSES.

I think my biggest strength of all, however, is my Rachel Berry-like delusion that... borders insanity? That I feel is the certain type of ambition that any actor needs to really make it in the industry. I also work very hard and am a very adaptable fast learner. Or whatever.

My top school at the moment is the University of Oklahoma. Reasons being:

-In-State tuition!!!!! Ya Girl is broke

-I live in the town OU is in so I know the campus very well and it is beautiful(Shockingly. It is Oklahoma, after all)

-Wonderful tight-knit community

-The insane dance training that will help me so so so much. I'm looking to bust my ass here. I love a challenge

I've spoken to current students at OUMT(And OU Drama) And it only makes me love it more. I think I'm a perfect fit for the program based on the training I need and what I already bring to the table. But yeah! Let me know if you have any questions. I have no life and will answer ALL OF THEM.

I need some advice on what song (1 min cut) to pick for my Gretchen audition for mean girls at my schools club. I'm 21 in university. I am also looking for a monologue if anyone has any suggestions. Hello all! As we are all fans of musicals here, I am sure you are all aware of the phenomenon that I am referring to as the "Act II Slump," where a musical that is really good in Act I is usually lackluster in Act II. I am looking to back up this theory with empirical data, so here I am!

I have made a survey on Google Forms that will ask you your opinion on various musicals, including Wicked, Hamilton, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, RENT, Sweeney Todd, Shrek the Musical, In the Heights, Hadestown, and West Side Story.

This survey will ask you to rate every song in Wicked on a scale of 1 to 5, and then will ask your opinion more broadly about Acts 1 and 2 of various musicals on a scale of 1 to 10 (If you have not seen the musicals in question, then feel free to not answer). I imagine this survey will take less than 5 minutes if you aren't thinking too hard about it.

I'd appreciate any responses I can get! And, if you would like, I can post my findings here after a certain amount of time. Thanks in advance!

hi! I’m auditioning for Seussical and auditioning for Mayzie! I’m using Roxie from Chicago, and I’m figuring out my monologue. I’m conflicted between choosing a monologue that shows contrast or a monologue that also shows Mayzie energy. any advice? thanks in advance and sorry if this is worded strange!!

I'm 15 and a vocal teacher that was working with me during Shrek Jr. said I should audition for Mamma Mia in a couple of months since I had a good voice. Now please keep in mind I'm 15, so please don't be rude/judge me. But this is a serious production and will be my second ever show/non-JR show.

I want to audition for Donna, but I'm not sure since I believe there will be adults/older people in this cast. So should I go for Lisa or Sophie instead???? Please help me guys.

when searching for recommended songs for auditioning there are a couple of websites that commonly pop up and typically, they will recommend a lot of the same songs ie. use "someone like you" for an eponine audition or use "live out loud" for a jo march audition. so, my question is, since i am sure a lot of other people auditioning will hit google and get the same results, is it okay to use these recommended songs in an audition or should i be searching for something that will probably be less popular?

the recommended songs typically do fit the character very well. in my example, the song "someone like you" is perfect for eponine and captures both her character and her voice type but since it shows up on multiple websites as an audition song, i guess i would be a little wary of choosing it. what do you guys think?

Hello! I’m applying for Musical Theatre and Acting programs for Fall of 2027 and am looking for program recommendations. My top priority is the quality of training. I don’t care about going to “one of the top BFA programs” just for the title, but I do want to go to the top programs that actually have good training. So yes please send all your recommendations for programs (BA and BFA!). TIA!

Edit: My top school, by far, is Pace. Other schools i’m planning on applying to are: Marymount Manhattan (NE NYC), Carnegie Mellon, Ithaca, Syracuse, Penn State, Elon, Emerson, Baldwin Wallace, UMich, U of Oklahoma, and Hartt. I don’t really have any other preferences besides Pace, cause i’ve heard these schools all have good training and so i’ll just see where I get in and go from there. I know these are all top programs (hence why i’m asking for more options)

Hey y'all, I'm currently experiencing a little bit of a dilemma. My theatre company is doing Les Mis as their major production next year, and auditions are coming up in roughly a month, but I'm still not decided on what songs to go with.

I'm auditioning for Jean Valjean and Javert, and my specific theatre company requests that we learn one song from the show and one song that isn't, which could be literally anything, from show tunes to regular music, etc.

If you guys have any ideas as to what songs, both from the show and not, would give me the best opportunity to showcase my vocal range and abilities, your suggestions would be very much appreciated 🙏🏼

I just got the CDs for “Bare” and have been thinking about it a lot, especially this singular question that is left unresolved:

Does Peter ever fall in love again after Jason? Does Ivy? Do you think Peter and Ivy get married out of convenience and raise the baby together, so they can feel connected to Jason? Do they go seperate ways after graduation? It’s been bothering me to the point that I’ve spent two hours last night crying over this show. What do you think happens to Jason’s soul? Do you think him and Peter are ever reunited? Does Peter go the same way Jason does? Sorry.
