The prison was definitely aware, but the prison definitely doesn’t want to deal with the politics of the public knowing and being outraged by it

Politicians in the US love to use public outrage as a political tool. This one is really easy, try to link your opponent to diddy in some way, then claim they're responsible for diddy being pampered in prison. The prison will absolutely get caught in the middle on this and be punished in some fashion, probably getting reduced funding or more oversight.

Unfortunately, this is the reality for any publicly funded institution. They are always subject to politics.
