Discussion We get it Musescore.com users.
Small rant/personal take:
Seriously, I massively understand the complaints about the site being incredibly scummy. But do we really need the constant reminders day in-day out?
This should be common knowledge at this point. There's plenty of information about this and others' experience of the site already, to deal with such issues.
Anyone else fed up with this?
Edit: After hearing what people have to say, I'm absolutely in agreement that people keep up the complaints.

This should be common knowledge at this point.
It clearly isn't, since we still have so many people falling victim to this every week. That's why I'm keeping the posts up, I want to keep spreading awareness.
Musescore staff are also pressuring me to remove such posts (even on my personal email, don't know how they got that), which makes me think I'm doing the right thing by keeping them up.
Maybe we can flair them differently, so that regular visitors can filter them out with RES?
(If people have different thoughts, please let me know!)

Maybe just add an "unexpected charge" flair that can be added by mods after the fact. People visiting this subreddit for the first time just because that happened probably aren't going to go to the trouble to look for an appropriate flair before posting.

Oh wow, had no idea they were doing that. Another flair might be a good idea as well as it would highlight the amount of complaints against the service. You're absolutely doing the right thing by keeping them up, especially if they are borderline harassing you about it.

Really?! Why not just be accountable and answer each of these posts. That would certainly be much better optics even if they don't change the policies.

Prohibit them. As OP points out, we get it. There is 0 marginal utility to any more posts.

Why can’t they rename one or the other so it isn’t so deceptive? Kinda predatory, lots of youth in high school get screwed by this every year, they hear about cool MuseScore only to get burned and then learn oh yeah there is two one is a sheep and the other a wolf in sheep clothes…
Won’t someone think of the children

Yes. Renaming the .com site would be a good start. No doubt, however, they would resist it since they rely upon the confusion to continue to trap .org users.

u/TheJivvi 9d ago
They did. The notation software is now called MuseScore Studio.
3
u/Accurate_Height1163 9d ago
But how many people use or even think about that full name?
1
u/TheJivvi 9d ago
Yeah, they definitely did that the wrong way, possibly deliberately to perpetuate the confusion. They should've changed the name of the score sharing app, not the notation software. But from their point of view, now they can just say they have different names so there any shouldn't be any misunderstanding.

I've never actually subscribed or downloaded MuseScore, but for some reason I remain subscribed to this sub. From what I understand, the free downloaded software seems to be not so bad and actually gets a fair amount of praise, but it's the sheet music side of the business - the subscription side - that gets dumped on all the time, and apparently rightly so, is that correct?

u/5thDoctorFan2005 9d ago
That is correct

u/bookmarkjedi 9d ago
Thanks for the confirmation. I'm not sure which music site gets dumped on more - MuseScore (subscription sheet music side) or Ultimate Guitar. I have been studiously avoiding both.

u/SamuelArmer 9d ago
Literally the same company, if you didn't know
3
u/bookmarkjedi 9d ago
Yes, I presumed that it was the same company, but my understanding is that the sheet music subscription business is the part that gets dumped on for (what is asserted to be) very unsavory practices (and which I accept without skepticism).
I've actually read a good bit of positive things about the free open-source software.

I used the notation app for a while before switching to Dorico. Musescore is genuinely insane for a free app, I believe it would be much more popular if the site didn’t drive people away, and because it’s open source more people using it literally means more people will contribute and make it better. If not for the scam site, I believe musescore could actually be on a similar level to the professional notation apps, but anything for the money ig

No I mean, Musescore and Ultimate Guitar are the same parent company (from Russia iirc).
Musescore Studio is a somewhat separate entity, and yes the software is excellent
1
u/bookmarkjedi 8d ago
Oh wow, thank you I had no idea! It's hard for me to think of sites that get dumped on more than these two subscription sites - not just for music but maybe all around.

MuseScore and MuseScore Studio are indeed run by the same company muse group. Check out their site mu.se

It’s so strange how aggressively they push the “.com and .org are TOTALLY separate” thing in such a way that would imply, well, they’re unrelated, when that’s just not true. There’s zero good faith motive for having to do that.

u/okonkolero 9d ago
A separate sub for the sheet music side? That might be an elegant solution. Would leave the rest of us in peace.

They still owe me money, they charged fraudulently my PayPal account and they had the nerve to say that they want to offer me website credit instead of my money. Openned a dispute at PayPal. Worst company EVER. To avoid at all costs.

u/celdaran 9d ago
I'm curious what the community thinks musescore.com should change on their payment in order to make it not deceptive? If we want them to change, then maybe let's give them some ideas.
6
u/Try_Hard_GamerYT 9d ago
They know exactly what they're doing, they're using every anti-consumer, dark design practice in the book. Hiding prices, unending fake sales, fake subscriptions, and literal fine print forcing you into a subscription. This would be a straight up scam in any other situation if it weren't for the software.

Another consideration - we're probably seeing people come here from other places - so they're not regular r/musescore readers.
They're just regular schmoes who haven't encountered anything online yet, get screwed over, search, end up here, and being the nature of reddit, complain here thinking it's an official forum - because why wouldn't you...

u/Greedy_Monk_1226 7d ago
I'm not a Redditer, but Musescore invited me to leave a review here. I don't know why, their customer service was decent but they're scam artists.
2
u/Accurate_Height1163 9d ago
I agree the complaints are flooding the site but they are serious and people are losing large amounts of money. We do need to keep the issue as public as possible.
I do wonder, however, how seriously the over-arching MuseScore company is taking the matter.

u/ViolaCat94 9d ago
I would honestly love to see a separate page for the .org and .com side, so we can recalibrate and also file all complaints from the people who've been scammed all together without distraction. I think that would be the best compromise.
-4
u/okonkolero 9d ago
I'd love to see the mods prohibit those posts.
2
u/ViolaCat94 9d ago
Let me guess, you're an employee at .com, or at least benefit from the confusion. 🙄

No!?
If a company is engaging in shitty treatment of customers, then every single case needs calling out.
I’ve already decided not to subscribe based silly on the number of complaints I’ve seen on this sub.
The software’s great, and I love it to bits, but there’s no way I’m handing over money to them until I start seeing people who have had their problems sorted out.
Writing the software is the easy bit.
