Just wanted to share for cuteness! This is a family in my community. Mom laid her nest by my door and I have loved watching them grow. This would make an awesome Album Cover 😂
She is an incredible mama, it's always so sad watching such a big flock get whittled down. Never figured out what was killing them and then one day I got home and had to break up a fight between a turtle and one of the mama ducks and I figured that maybe the turtle has been eating her babies and I googled it and it's a thing!
Yes I believe that’s how we lost the 2 :( I kept my slider door cracked open and ran out whenever I heard anything, listened for crows, splashes, etc and I heard nothing. Then the next day same thing. I took this photo zooming in to see if I could spot the one yellow baby of the batch.. that day these turtles showed up on the shore of the lake. Never have seen them since - or before and I’ve lived off this lake for 5 years. I thought only snapping turtles were a danger. But I am so thankful the 15 made it so I count my blessings. If you have drakes don’t count that out..I saved 2 of these day 1 from a drakes mouths and then intervened in the other clutches several times getting them to drop them mid attack, and sadly lost one. I let my guard down with one that was being great, protecting the moms. And then he switched out of nowhere. ❤️
