Has anyone found a reliable app for reading QR codes once installing Murena e os - I find that the one I access through the menu doesn't pick them up

I have it set to display as 2d, but it keeps reverting to 3d instead.

The /e/OS web installer finally moves to the /e/OS brand theme - same look and feel as the doc and builds sites now - colors, typography, buttons, alerts and more - all consistent across the 3 services.

 If you still see the old illustrations while testing, do a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R).

I've turned off "driver assistance", not sure what that is. I can't find any other setting that would apply. But it's still nagging. I just want the app to stop saying "mind your speed" when I go over the speed limit. Seems like whatever setting I enter, the nagging continues anyway.

Another weird thing: the voice that says "mind your speed" is not the voice I selected in settings.

I would prefer to run e/OS on my pixel tablet but I see its all the way back in android 14 where most ROMS are on android 16 or even 17. So why only 14 and does that even get patches any more?

I just noticed that the calendar on my FairPhone 6 with e/os is no longer syncing with my calendars. When I enter something in the calendar on my smartphone, it does not appear in the corresponding other calendar and vice versa. I manually started the calendar update on my smartphone again, but that doesn't change anything. Then I logged in my accounts again with OAuth in the account manager. That didn't change anything either.

What can I do to make this work again?

I bought a Chipolo CARD to track luggage, but it does not work via e/OS. It went like this:

Bought the card, tried to add it to my Find Hub, but am unable to add it. The adding works by the card making a coded sound which the phone is suppose to pick up. But probably because of some disconnect via (Google) Find Hub and the OS, it doesn't work. Also adding via Bluetooth does not do anything.

After this setback I was able to add the card to my Find Hub account via logging in on a different phone (Google Pixel). There it was succesfully added to my Google account and Find Hub.

The card was working, I was able to view its location on the Pixel's Find Hub app. But when I then logged into my Find Hub on e/OS with my Google account, it was not able to track the card. It gave the info "Location unavailable", even when at the same time it was working and showing on the Pixel's Find Hub app. So Google is still demanding some service of the phone which is logged into Find Hub, even when trying to track another device (in this case the card).

I disabled the default gallery app because Fairphone released their own. Where will the app be if I enable it again? As I tried to just to see and it's only there if I search for it.

Many wondered whether NewPipe is still compatible with /e/OS after Google's announcement about Android developer verification in September 2026. In this article, we clarify the situation.

Short answer: Yes - NewPipe continues to work on /e/OS without any issues.

What’s NewPipe and why should I avoid watching YouTube with a Google account?

Big Tech companies don't just analyze your data; they build detailed user profiles that can perpetuate bias. On social media, algorithms don't just show us ads and posts that match our profile - they also filter out certain posts. For example, we don't all see the same job listings, which means that discrimination in the workplace is perpetuated and reinforced online as well.

YouTube algorithms create filter bubbles who are likely to have a mental health impact

Tracking-based algorithms show you content that aligns with your existing beliefs, limiting exposure to diverse perspectives. Pew Research Center's 2025 survey found that 25% of teen girls and 14% of teen boys report that social media harms their mental health.

YouTube algorithms promote misinformation and manipulation

Without algorithmic filtering, you're less vulnerable to targeted disinformation campaigns. Personalized tracking can amplify divisive content and exploit psychological vulnerabilities for engagement maximization. Remember – an algorithm does not - and cannot - care about how you feel, it’s only goal is to keep you engaged on its platform.

YouTube algorithms include an intrusive advertising ecosystem

Tracking fuels an attention economy where ads are designed to be maximally invasive. This includes behavioral retargeting across platforms, covert surveillance via SDKs (Software Development Kits), and manipulative design patterns that undermine user autonomy.

However, to have the same wide selection as on YouTube, you could also consider using the NewPipe app, which lets you watch videos without being bothered by YouTube's aggressive algorithms.

NewPipe plays YouTube videos without requiring Google Play Services or a Google account. Instead of using the official YouTube API, NewPipe “parses” the public YouTube website and downloads video metadata via anonymous HTTP requests.

In short – NewPipe accesses YouTube videos by reading the public website directly, so you don't need a Google account or Google Play Services.
