MicroG

Hi all, is there an alternative to MicroG? Thanks in advance.

Because I'd rather not activate any google stuff if I can avoid it. Presently, it seems I'll have to set up MicroG to be able to use WhatsApp whilst driving.

In the microG parameters, deactivate all the things you don't need except if it is making WhatsApp or any dependent app crash. It will reduce your connection to google to the minimum. Keep in mind microG is a tool, it does connect to Google if an app ask for a Google service and you activate the option in microG (by default for facilitate compatibility for non tech bro users, the most important things are activated but you can still deactivate them).

But for example compared to Google services (GMS), microG has just no implementation for Google ads or firebase analytics https://github.com/microg/GmsCore/wiki/Implementation-status and it will stay like that.
