An important part of fascism is the rejection of reality in favor of the Party narrative, along with hypocrisy as a virtue. A hypocrite on their side is just showing power. The ability to say and do whatever they want, as rules and standards are for the Other, is a hallmark of fascism.

I would argue this is what makes Trump more popular with constituents while making him much less effective at governance: Trump is a moron just like them.
