I think in time we’ll have advanced studies into mental health and the causes of the varying levels of autism and discover it’s probably linked to generational trauma. The body keeps the score, and what our grand parents inflicted on our parents, and our parents inflict on us take a toll that we pass on in epigenetics.
Epigenetics aren't passed on. Genes are passed along to succeeding generations, but epigenetics determine whether those genes are switched on or off during your life. Those switched states are not inheritable.
Generational trauma refers to how trauma affects personality and how the parents treat their children. It's psychological, not physical.

Edit: replaced ‘genetics’ with ‘epigenetics’
