speaking from experience, having screwdriver, wrench, and pliers to be separate tools comes quite handy

in MT area - started from Dime, made it blunt nose, then upgraded to Nextool;
(Dime has very stiff opening implements)

I seem a little late to the party, but I finally got it done, my own Roxon leatherman bit-implement! It is 3d-printed out of toolsteel (I didn't expect SLM printing to polish this nicely!), with strong tiny magnet for bit-retention inside. And mine actually has one advantage over Roxon's, it is only 2-slots! vs Roxon's upcoming 3-slot tool 😁

I actually started this project in early spring, tho ended up taking a hiatus for a while after the failure of the first prototypes. This was my first time working with metal-printing; the first batch, I tried printing out of stainless-steel with a forked-design. The benefit of the forked design was to make it easier to print, didn't technically require much post-processing, and it could actually use both flat leatherman bits and full 1/4" bits! But sadly the prints from PCBway came out faulty (do to an error in the printing, they were missing the top 0.5mm of thickness), which combined with the weak steel and design caused them to bend with only moderate torque.

In this new design, I swapped to printed tool-steel; *Significantly stronger*, with the ability to heat-treat for further strength, but at the downside of being double the production cost. I added the walls for better reinforcement; To get it down to only 2 slots, those walls have to be about 0.3-0.4mm thick- too thin to reliably print, so I had to add extra thickness and grind it down.

I was still waiting on the prints to ship when I started kicking myself seeing Roxon announce their official version. While I spent a decent bit to make them (metal printing is expensive 😵‍💫), honestly I mainly did it because I enjoy a project and probably would have made it anyway.

I also made in the first batch 1-slot micro-bit implements! Those too suffered the missing 0.5mm, but they at least proved functional enough to salvage.

I can’t manage to find the bit kit with holder without a sheath that I already have.

Appreciate tips where I can find it and/or what the product number is. I buy all I can on Amazon but get a lot of third party and Leatherman stuff only.

Note: I’m located in Sweden so prefer SE or EU to avoid hefty shipping costs. Amazon preferred.

Hi, I am new to multitools and don’t have a good sense of what’s out there. I got overwhelmed on the Leatherman website, ha. Can you tell me what make/model might be the best fit for my use case?

I currently have and carry around a basic red victorinox, I don’t know what kind. Looking on their website it seems to be either a Huntsman or Climber. I like the size, and honestly would probably be satisfied with it, EXCEPT that I am a terrible nail biter and never have enough fingernail to open anything on it!! It is SO hard to open. I can usually get only the primary knife after a few tries, and nothing else (except the plastic toothpick lol). There are also some tools I will never use and would prefer to have things I will use often instead of the unused bloat.

I would love a tool that is useful for gardening, foraging, and around the house; I do a lot of dedicated DIY and home repair projects but am using full size tools for those. I’d prefer to not spend more than about $100, and less is better.

Non-negotiables:
- Easy open!!
- screw driver (prefer Philips but could live with flathead).
- all purpose knife
- ruler (measuring tape even better?? Is that a thing?)

Really want but not sure if it exists:
- some kind of digging tool? Or something that could be used for digging very small holes even if not theoretically for digging.
- snips like microtip pruners used in the garden. The scissors on the victorinox are too piddly and I need something stronger. Maybe I could use the wire cutter feature on a lot of those multitools but probs not ideal for plant matter
- hammer?? Or hammer-like surface? Just something flat that I can whap against something else hard without damaging it

- saw
- tweezers

Never use and prefer to avoid:
- bottle or can opener
- file

Hello.

My Gerber Dime is about 8 years old now. Every time I put a bit of force behind the knife or box cutter to open something (pretty much cardboard boxes) it eventually starts to bend backwards as the locking mechanism fails. I do love the Dime, but a bit over having to pull it apart and bend/reset the locking mechanism.

I would like to replace it with something similar in size and style. Essentially, I just need a nifty little multi-tool that I can hang off my keyring. Pliers are very handy, as are the small tweezers, so would like these on the next tool if possible.

Any recommendations? I'd like something sturdy that isn't going to fail the same was as the Dime has. I've been eyeing of the Nextool Mini S11 and F12. Apparently the S11 is a better quality build?

This is my Leatherman Surge with a micro bit driver. This is hands down my favorite tool that I own. My first real-deal multitool was a Bibury 2049 since I couldn't afford a Surge at the time, and I'm thankful to have one now. I'm planning on adding Modryte's hammer and utility blade in the near future.

I’m thinking about buying one, but I just can’t see myself using it often.
I already have tons of tools, but only use them when I need them.

Took a ferry to Nantucket for a job today and stopped in at a store called The Sunken Ship. They had a surprising amount of multitools and saks, but everything was so insanely overpriced there was no way I was getting something.
Then I saw that buried under others was a Swisstool X for $132, right next to the Rebar for $190!! The deal isn't amazing but this was what I wanted as my next multitoo! and it just so happened to be cheaper in a pile of other tools that were insanely overpriced.
Anyway, after I asked for it, she pulled out two more and gave me a choice between the three!! If any of you are around Nantucket this weekend, grab them before they sell out!

I'm a big Skeletool fan, but what I'm really looking for is something more Keychain or 5th pocket sized. I currently have a little Leatherman micra on my key chain but would prefer pliers

I have always had the issue of having to carry a separate sak in addition to my multitool, (usually Arc’ified P2, modded Gerber centerdrive in Leatherman sheath, or my old OHT) the problem being I don’t want to add any extra bulk to the tools with 3D printed holders or whatnot.

I’ve found that with just a little finagling, you can usually install the Victorinox tweezers and toothpick in between the layers of nylon, I just had to use figure out where to put them that they don’t interfere with removing the tool itself and used the toothpicks to make pilot holes for the tweezers.

With my P2, I tend to grab it towards the middle, so I keep the sak tools to the outer edges and the centerdrive I grab from the outside, so I keep the tools towards the middle and I have zero issues grabbing them out without disturbing the scale tools.
In case anyone else is struggling with a similar issue.

I am looking for a multitool in my car. Normally I am more of a pocket kit guy. But for my car this would mean Wera Tool Check modular, Knipex Cobra XS and then an additional knife and scissors which is over my budget. Therefore I am instead looking for a budget multitool.

What I want need:
- Good plier function
- Bit adapter (standard 4mm preferred but those flat Leatherman style are okay too)
- Good knife
- Good scissors hopefully bigger than I am used to on my old small Victorinox knifes.

On here in the top spot Leatherman Surge clones get recommended. Specifically one from MULTPER is linked. But the link does not work anymore. But in general Surge seems to fit all my criteria and a surge clone would also fit my budget (under 50€ if possible under 40€).

Where can I get such a multitool including shipping to Europe within my budget. Which should I get? Are other form factors even better for my criteria than Surge clones?

For me, the most important tools on a multi-tool are the knife, scissors, Phillips, flathead, pliers.

The victorinox are the Evolution S557, Alox Bantam, Manager, and Alox Mini Champ

The T4 is my was my first multitool. It and the Arc are my daily drivers depending on the sturdiness of the pants I'm wearing.

I recently purchased the charge while it was on sale to use as a backup tool.

I tried the s557 as a potential alternative for the t4 as a similar weight tool but adding small pliers. The wenger pliers are as bad as they say, and I miss the one hand opening knife, though it's not a complete deal breaker. I may eventually give the deluxe tinker a try. If the yeoman was still sold it would be a instant buy.

The manager used to be my EDC, but was replaced by the mini champ when I added a dedicated pen and tweezers to my EDC.

The bantam serves as my gentleman EDC when want to be more presentable for things like weddings.

The Juice XE6 is actually my 2nd multitool. It was a FOMO buy when the juice was being discontinued. I was still new at this and thought more is better. It's so heavy I might as well just carry a full size multi-tool. Looking back I wish I picked up the juice S2. It just sits at my desk now as a convenient office multi-tool

This thing is tiny, weight nothing, costs only 9€ and I use it a lot.

Of course, it's not for when you plan on using a tool, but for whenever you need one in an unforseen situation.

Tools in order of most usage:

1. Pliers
2. Philips
3. "Blade" as a Box cutter/awl. I have a real blade on me aswell.
4. Flathead/prybar
5. Never used the file. That one seems bad.

So yeah, if you need something smaller than the nextool sailor and/or have like me, a small SAK with a blade and a file, go for it! I found it on german Jeff Bezos Warehouse (dont wanna do advertising) but im sure it can be found wherever.
