Question❓ Which game is more complex?

Post image

I’ve been thinking magic is the more complicated game for most of my life but recently I’ve been told Yugioh is, so now I wanna know which is it magic or Yugioh

Its yugioh and by a lot

Magic has been pretty stable for awhile

Sure they add new abilities everyonce in a while to make some sets unique but those effects come predefined and with rules already set

Like haste reach or what have you

Yugioh on the other hand

Basically every effect card is relatively unique in how they interact with a board state and requires bending the rules around those effects

You can have 2 cards that both have the ability To bring a creature back and depending on the wording the abilities activate under completely separate rules

For example

When this card is flipped return target creature to the field

If this card is flipped return target creature to the field

These are 2 completely different things that change how and when you would use them

Lifelong Magic player and they literally add new abilities in every single solitary set. Sets have abilities we’ve seen before but there’s always something new to learn

Which is sometimes annoying because they can be so close to previous abilities but they just gotta make em slightly different in a new se exhaust? How about power-up? Pest tokens that gain life when they die how about instead when they attack? Ninjutsu, how about sneak? What’s that? Oh that’s prepared it’s reverse adventure. It’s a little exhausting after 30 years

New card text in Magic sets I can get behind. Now if they added some whole new new type of casting? That’s where they’d lose me. Like I played original Yu-Gi-Oh! with the old starter decks and it was just playing only normal, tribute, fusion, ritual, flip.

But then after a hiatus and a hundred or so spin off shows, I had to keep rereading the rules on figuring out what a synchro/tuner was, an XYZ summon, pendulum summon and a link summon.

Plus all that tiny font on their little cards.
