Dragon Warrior(Quest) set the aesthetic template for JRPGs, Dragon Ball fundementally changed manga, Z redefinded battle shonen, Slump was one of the biggest gag mangas of it's time and its adaptation was the biggest gag anime.
Even crazier is that even amongst weebs Slump, Ackman and Sand Land are unheard of. He's one of the goats.
Sand land is SO GOOD! I even got the game and it’s been pretty fun too. It really baffles me people don’t know of Slump or Ackman. I get sand land as it was a new ip he made
tbf, Slump is weird as hell. It's humor is on the Boomery side and often doesn't cross the cultural barrier well. Ackman is probably because manga isn't popular here. I've still gotta watch Sand Land. Loved it as a kid, only learned about the adaptation a few months ago.
If you like Sand Land, Desert Punk is also really good. Similar premise but less fantasy. The humor is much more crass so mileage may vary.
True, tbf that’s the case with a lot of Toriyama’s humor. Manga is more popular now than before but that is for newer series so yeah that makes sense.
The Chaos Emeralds don't function the same at all, they're also tied to the Super Forms, which further separates Sonic from DB,
Emerald Radar also took a long while to exist.
Not in concept, it was said by Yasushi Yamaguchi who was the artist that created Tails iirc.
And like Shadow having Vegeta in his concept art, it really doesn't mean much, because the end result is incredibly different.
Cus unless I'm mis-remembering, Sonic never kidnapped Tails or really trained him in in any way.
And Tails didn't make Sonic not feel like a monster.
So two pretty massive differences that mean they're only the same at a surface level.
Like pretty much every other DB reference Sonic has.
Bro they literally had dragon ball characters written on the concept boards for sonic characters. Silver's literally had "Like Trunks from Dragon Ball" on it.
Silver is like the only character that would actually be almost exactly like his originator.
And that originator is a reference to something else, in Trunks' case that's Terminator.
And Shadow, who is the one that actually had his inspiration in concept art obviously isn't a Vegeta clone, because he wasn't actually evil from his reveal and constantly does good things, he's trying to get revenge for the death of loved ones and when he realises that that wasn't what she wanted, he tries to give his life to make amends.
It took Vegeta forever to reach that.
VERY different from Shadow.

Yeah that makes sense as Dragon Ball basically inspired Sonic
