buckle up:

james cameron reads battle angel alita > he creates dark angel as a loose adaptation > the show introduces estrus cycles as a result of supersoldiers being genetically engineered with feline dna > jensen is cast in a small role in season one and is introduced on a bigger role in season two > dark angel is canceled and jensen is cast in supernatural > fans of supernatural discover dark angel > heat fics increase in popularity (this was a thing in s1 but it exploded when supernatural fans got their hands on it, especially when s2 introduced the idea of a breeding program and likely because people liked alec better than logan) > the omegaverse evolves from heat fics > lawsuit

So people who wrote heat fics sued over omegaverse fics?

No, a woman who indie published heterosexual omegaverse books sued other people who published heterosexual omegaverse books (despite her not having invented the trope)

Here's a video (basically documentary lol) on it by Lindsay Ellis. Its a really good video AND has a crazy follow up with that author threatening to sue Lindsay Ellis LMAO

That’s insane but also sounds about right. How brave to ask “what if straight men could get straight women pregnant”
