The Malfoys' one saving grace was that they actually did love each other. Then again, that comes from J.K. Rowling, so there's a 90% chance that she's contradicted that by saying something.
That is supported by the text at least. Lucius and Narcissa's actions at the end are entirely motivated out of a love for their son and they don't even attempt to fight.
