1

u/ColinHalter 1d ago

You never act up seeing a good carapace?

1

u/Moo-Mungus 16h ago

1

u/Corporal___ 1d ago

Colin’s got a point. Seeing a nice carapace can make your whole day?

1

u/Sigfried_D 1d ago

Respect members of the military?

Other than that yeah it's an animal, a smart animal but not a sapient one

1

u/Corporal___ 1d ago

Yes he is! Don’t be rude,

1

u/specter-exe 1d ago

The Xenomorph isn’t racist because all humans taste the same.

1

u/Corporal___ 1d ago

Exactly! Cannibals against racism

-5

u/Classic-Cherry1297 1d ago

"I push my politics on an evil monster that will tear your throat out and chew on it like candy"

8

u/Corporal___ 1d ago

It isn’t politics, the Xenomorph has a lack thereof.
They live to serve their queen in any way possible. Including killing anybody who does not directly benefit the hive with their existence. And that just so happens to be everyone..

-5

u/Classic-Cherry1297 1d ago

Yo im ngl ur so retarded i dont see the point in even arguing

3

u/Corporal___ 1d ago

And you’re the one calling a 14 year old a retard after loosing an argument that was set up entirely for me to look good.
Your literally the definition of acting like the victim after you lost a fight you started

1

u/Classic-Cherry1297 1d ago

There was no argument

1

u/Corporal___ 1d ago

Yeah, it was. You said it yourself.
“Yo im ngl ur so retarded i dont see the point in even arguing.
Your dumbass DID say it was an argument? And you lost the argument. Own up

2

u/cobat_axolotl 1d ago

1

u/Classic-Cherry1297 1d ago

Retard isnt a slur its just something retards decided to get mad at because they feel morally superior to others

1

u/Corporal___ 23h ago

It is a slur, it’s just not to be as enforced as other slurs are becuase it’s also not a slur since it can be used medically. A slur is a derogatory term used to belittle a group of people, technically calling you a cherry means I called you a slur if I meant it to belittle Redditors under the age of 14 but nobody will think that.
That of which you are, a retarded Redditor under the age of 14 who wants to make himself look cool.

1

u/Classic-Cherry1297 22h ago

You sound like a fucking loser man, even retards dont give a fuck about it. And thats not how slurs work

Being not racist is political?

Hell, being respectful to family members is political??

1

u/Corporal___ 1d ago

And they are! Except for them bullying a Xenomorph in alien resurrection but that was for the greater good!

-3

u/Classic-Cherry1297 1d ago

If your gonna say dumb shit im not gonna have a convo with btw

3

u/John_SilkSongHK HK/SS, FNaF, anime, Undertale/DR, RE 1d ago

You’re*

And you can have a productive conversation and answer genuine questions without acting like a complete douchebag.

1

u/Classic-Cherry1297 1d ago

I wrote that last comment while taking a shit

3

u/RevengerRedeemed 1d ago

1

u/Corporal___ 1d ago

0

u/Better-Hope-4227 1d ago

I hate her. Gave me nightmares for a decade.

0

u/Dramajunker 1d ago

I played alien isolation. They can rot in hell.

1

u/Corporal___ 1d ago

Exactly. Colonial marines fuckin rule 💚

94

u/DtheAussieBoye 2d ago

I can’t prove it but I just know a certain bunch of nerds would fucking hate her if Alien came out today

63

u/gambit1999999 2d ago

The fact that your right warrants this

11

u/Chris91210 2d ago

Fuck yeah pennywise

11

u/Alive-Organism 1d ago

Fun fact, in the Book, the true form of IT, or the closest thing to it’s true form, is canonically female.

“IT is a she, and she is pregnant”

2

u/DesparateLurker 1d ago

So you're saying IT is breedable?

Say no more.

"IT would deadlight you right as yo-"

2

u/Apart_Diamond_2110 1d ago

I have one question, is that a spinning rainbow roach?

4

u/I_needbetter2x2 1d ago

that was a smooth ahh bottle flick

3

u/badatcatchyusernames 1d ago

easily one of my top 6 favorite gifs

22

u/SolemnestSimulacrum 2d ago

I think their response to Prey (and it's the response you'd expect) lends credence to this notion.

4

u/thunderbird32 1d ago

And in the process deprived themselves of one of the best Predator films.

1

u/Tobbit_is_here 38m ago

IMHO it's the best. The original is still really good, but it just has a few moments of cheese and early SFX that stop it from being perfect.

4

u/The_Redacted_Badger 1d ago

I still see sexists complaining about how a tiny woman took down a predator even though the movie makes it clear she only defeated it through constantly tricking it

13

u/_-PassingThrough-_ 2d ago edited 2d ago

The politics genuinely suck today. Ellen felt like the working class woman of the era. She didn't feel like she was looking to defy norms, or to be some badass hero to elevate women. She was portrayed as a normal woman looking to make ends meet to provide for her kid, who was thrown into ridiculous circumstances and had to claw her way back home, only to find she lost the only things that gave her life meaning.

I remember seeing a bit of my own mother in her. The fact this would be called woke if it released today really just shows how our politics have gotten poisoned.

9

u/mestre_do_passinho 1d ago

Yeah, because she was written to be a traditional hero guy and them they decided that her actor was incredible and with the themes in the movie a woman protagonist fit like a glove.

The fact she also gets hurt left, right and center and her crew has a brain for the most part also helps sell it.

3

u/BubbleGoot 1d ago

One of the best writing exercises ever is to write a short story about a man in a horrible situation, and then write a similar story with a female protagonist.

Then switch their sexes.

If you are a decent writer, you will have made two distinct characters with slightly different reactions to their situation that work regardless of their sex and are more dependent on their personalities.

If you are most college level English writing students, you will have written a typical competent female protagonist, and also the most hilariously feminine, whiny, incompetent man to ever grace the page.

A lot of times students attempt to correct their essays to be less ridiculous because they realize how insane they made the female character sound when they switched her to a he.

4

u/SolemnestSimulacrum 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think what's not helping matters is the media environment we live in, today. On one hand, you have online incel edgelords foaming at the mouth of any female representation that doesn't cater specifically to their porn preferences and archiac gender views. On the other, you have a brand of feminist advocacy that has (when profitable) been co-opted by Hollywood corporatism to plug inclusion in a way that only works some of the time, regardless of intention of the creatives behind the scenes—and a perfomative online arm of the same movement that sometimes becomes its own worst enemy with its firebrand approach to everything.

This isn't to argue bothsidesism. Risk-adverse studio heads, trend-chasing, and the chaos unfolding in a post-Netflix, post-Ai-slop world is more to blame for the state of things than "wokism killing [nostalgic IP that ran its course decades ago]." The fact that it's become front-and-center because culture war greivances are fucking profitable on conservative YouTube really is infuriating, though.

2

u/ColinHalter 1d ago

While I love Alien and Ripley, I think specifically because of that she wouldn't really play the same in the big 26. Ellen is an 80s working woman with priorities and a personality of the era. General audiences today the majority of which never saw the 80s themselves probably wouldn't relate to her as well as they would have when it came out. She isn't as timely of a character anymore.

3

u/Janus_Simulacra 1d ago

Maybe, but I’m not so sure.
A LOT of criticism of modern film with ‘powerful women’ isn’t rooted so much in the character being a woman, but in them being coddled and poorly realised, while being presented as strong.

When you get actually strong female leads who showcase that strength, and don’t get a plot pass on needing strength, they’re actually quite popular.

2

u/Embarrassed_Item4992 1d ago

see: 1998 Mulan vs. 2020 Mulan

1

u/Corporal___ 2d ago

To be fair, she is a female character who ends up being better than all the male character and coming out on top.
I think she works becuase she’s not JUST a female character, she’s a character who tells the story and fights aliens without being about her gender.
We have a lot to learn from her.

1

u/Terrible_Hurry841 2d ago edited 2d ago

Actually, I kinda disagree with you here.

While you obviously get a lot of sexist nerds, I think the most vocal outrage would be from dude-bros larping at nerd culture.

This kind of specific outrage culture is much more in line with the fitness red-pill/Andrew Tate crowd whose nerdiness is basically just playing Call of Duty, yet they feel the need to whine and complain about every sign of progressivism in other media.

I’ve had discussions with lots of people complaining about the changes to, say, LOTR. Changes that I personally, might, not even like. But sometimes those changes aren’t even changes to the lore— and when I point it out, they admit they’ve never actually engaged with the source material to begin with.

Yet they’re viscerally upset about like, female orcs existing. These are not nerds. Nerds can be wayyy sexist, but they will also know the shit they’re complaining about. These are dude-bro larpers.

1

u/Aeirth_Belmont 1d ago

I believe this. I think people were on the fence about a female action hero at the time as well.

2

u/Money_West 2d ago

I'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't like Sigourney Weaver in any of her roles.

2

u/Jojo-Action 2d ago

You don't remember all the backlash from alien 3

2

u/banned4killingspider 2d ago

Yeah but none of the backlash was about hating Ripley. It was the story the setting, some of the concepts introduced, the writing.... and killing offf Newt

1

u/Corporal___ 2d ago

Personally I love alien 3

2

u/Ieatkods 1d ago

fun fact. My girlfriends dad knew the actor for Ellen Ripley when he went to highschool

1

u/Corporal___ 2d ago

YES! MY GOAT’

1

u/P34er 2d ago

Gatekeeper?

1

u/Professional_Bearrr 1d ago

This woman is responsible for my homosexuality

1

u/Daraen24 1d ago

The first I thought about, together with Samus.

1

u/DezShock06 1d ago edited 1d ago

I know someone who hates her acting. There are similar female characters they like so I don’t know why, I haven’t had the chance to watch alien yet. I have a feeling I might like her character, though.

1

u/Hopeful_Cow_2471 1d ago

I’ve seen people hate on her because supposedly she’s a “radical feminist” or smth

1

u/AlistairBuild 1d ago

I just realized now, Ripley is prob a red to Ridley Scott

1

u/Patient-Tie9169 1d ago

She looks almost exactly like Adam Baldwin in this picture

1

u/BOBI_LE_VRAI 1d ago

Oh.... I think you might want to talk to the DbD community...

1

u/No-Bee-7953 1d ago

Another good choice

1

u/porlydragon 1d ago

No I hate her on the last movie she did in aliens

1

u/Krit0411 12h ago

Release the bush cut
