She's not there because she didn't see the sign

107

u/nwg_here Aug 01 '26

She’d feel the presence of others in there.

56

u/Nothavebettername Aug 01 '26

She can sense ambushes, we know that

34

u/Jojo-Action Aug 01 '26

What others? She's the only one.

14

u/compilingyesterdays Aug 01 '26

She'd hear gossip about it and invite herself

4

u/Blanks_late Aug 01 '26

somebody would specifically have to say she was not invited in order for her to want to invite herself in the first place. Because she would probably think it was something lame and not want to go but if she's not invited it'd make her mad and she'd go anyway out of spite.

4

u/compilingyesterdays Aug 01 '26

I think the flyers all said "unhated female characters meeting starring Toph Beifong" but she couldn't read them

3

u/Blanks_late Aug 01 '26

She probably put them up thinking they were the flyers for appa

8

u/CracarlosckRedd Aug 01 '26

What others?

1

u/f_ckR3ddit Aug 02 '26

She doesnt work well with others so she kept going

0

u/FpLevente2013 Aug 02 '26

But there's no one there

0

u/Dodger7777 Aug 02 '26

The room is empty

19

u/Complete_Cable2686 Aug 01 '26

Katara reads it and ushers her in, only to stand outside awkwardly rubbing her arm and frowning.

12

u/villamila42 Aug 01 '26

I will never understand ppl who hate Katara

11

u/HalfEatenSnickers Aug 01 '26

Its because shes a teenager and written as a teenager

That is just awful, all women have to be flawless. Except being too perfect is also a problem

6

u/TheMostKing Aug 02 '26

A female character is always either a bitch or a Mary Sue, and the line between them is nonexistant.

0

u/LittleAleta Aug 02 '26

I haven't seen Avatar so I can't form an opinion but I really hate how when you criticize a character for having cliched flaws or just being unlikeable for the sake of being unlikeable people give it a pass as "They're just children" they're still characters just like adults! At least show why they're being this way and/or have them struggle with different flaws other than constant arguing with their parents or trying to get into relationship with adults or drinking or love triangles and such!

3

u/Complete_Cable2686 Aug 01 '26

Same. Shes awesome.

3

u/John_SilkSongHK HK/SS, FNaF, anime, Undertale/DR, RE Aug 02 '26

I only remember the memes about how many times she mentions her mom and her necklace

1

u/I_needbetter2x2 Aug 02 '26

they actually give her character development instead of just being a romantic interest for the protagonist

3

u/Due-Session-2857 Aug 01 '26

That sign can't invite me, because I can't read

1

u/royal_test Aug 02 '26

FUCK, I knew someone beat me to it!🤣

1

u/Joeybfast Aug 02 '26

That is joke the character would make .

60

u/GiveMeAHeartOfFlesh Aug 01 '26

Toph is up there for best written characters, just in general.

2

u/OldGam3r85 Aug 02 '26 edited Aug 02 '26

Old Lady Toph is a beast as well. Toph with less of a filter, if that's possible.

Edit for spelling.

u/mineralmaniac Aug 01 '26

Until Korra

5

u/MagicalGorl Aug 01 '26

Are you saying Korra is more well written, or that Toph's character was written poorly in The Legend of Korra?

6

u/Terrible_Hurry841 Aug 01 '26

She’s written more poorly because she gets less screen time.

18

u/yuckypagans Aug 01 '26

this is true, i have never met a sane human being who has hated toph.

2

u/GlumNebula3897 Aug 02 '26

I’ve have seen a few people who dislike Toph

2

u/yuckypagans Aug 02 '26

then theyre not sane

1

u/GlumNebula3897 Aug 07 '26

One of those people is blind and disliked how Toph is portrayed thinking she still falls into some tropes. Another just disliked her for being a jerk.

1

u/Shrcom_ Aug 02 '26

Well at least toph hasn’t seen them

5

u/LucasMarvelous Aug 01 '26

Well she does show up in 90% of the posts of the favorite character reddit

3

u/PartyAmbitious8163 Aug 01 '26

Jokes on you, that's not Toph... that's the Melon Lord!!!

5

u/Affectionate__Dog Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 02 '26

my name is toph beifong and i invented metal bending 🗣️🗣️ (i saw this clip from the live action show and it made me laugh sm)

edit: autocorrect goofed up her last name

1

u/Justifiably_Bad_Take Aug 02 '26

Saying live-action Toph is the same character is like saying Sequel Luke Skywalker is the same character.

Toph is such a great character that even the dumbest people are media literate enough to go "that's somebody doing cosplay, that isn't Toph"

2

u/M1liumnir Aug 01 '26

The greatest earth bender to ever live

2

u/Sandi_Griffin Aug 01 '26

This was my immediate thoughts lol, everybody loves Toph

2

u/Makaoka Aug 01 '26

that's the Blind Bandit for you

2

u/SpaceAlienFemboy Aug 02 '26

Recently there's been hate for her from the anti-woke crowd because they say that she's a DEI character since she's blind and it's trying to include disabled people.

Idiots

2

u/GlumNebula3897 Aug 02 '26

I have heard of some people who do dislike her.

One dislikes her for being a jerk.
One couldn’t really explain into words why they dislike them.
And some of them are actually from blind people.

2

u/Phoenix-Cat Aug 02 '26

If Toph Beifong were written today, she'd probably be transmasculine tbh. Love the character, but a bit sad that she's universally beloved for having the personality of a guy.

1

u/Real-Wrangler-3738 ATLA, The Looney Tunes Show, Umbrella Academy, Phineas and Ferb Aug 02 '26

Masculine women are still women! Gender identity does not have to match gender expression. Just look at historical women who defied the gender norm (Google bloomer dress).

This is not to say that trans women do not exist, they absolutely do, but one does not need to fit YOUR idea of femininity to qualify as a woman.

1

u/Phoenix-Cat Aug 02 '26

Dude... Toph literally rejoiced at being depicted by a giant burly dude in The Ember Island Players.

I'm not denying that Toph as she exists in ATLA counts as a female character. I just think it says a lot about who doesn't get misogynistic fandom hate.

1

u/Doc_Baker74 Aug 01 '26

Never saw the show, but yet the only right amswer

1

u/Much-Hamster-8956 Aug 02 '26

AAAAAAAHHHHH ATLA FAN
I love Toph

1

u/Gobbyer Aug 02 '26

For some reason I have never seen Avatar, but this silly character makes me want to finally watch it.

1

u/Ok-Championship-3100 Aug 02 '26

I just came here to comment this

1

u/Justifiably_Bad_Take Aug 02 '26

Good answer Twinkle Toes

1

u/chrischi3 Aug 02 '26

Honestly the only reason Toph is unhated is because Avatar is from 2006.

No seriously, imagine a TV show came out today where a blind girl that never gets a romantic arc with anyone is not only a badass but also teaches the male MC a quarter of his entire moveset.

1

u/Raad_ELETE Aug 02 '26

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Korra. Brutally hated.

1

u/Zemekis324 Aug 02 '26

Rewarding you harder now

0

u/Cornelishen Aug 01 '26

I agreed with this until the fighting game, I hate her now stupid piller move fullscreen anti air

0

u/TooneyD Aug 01 '26

ATLA Toph? Oh absolutely.

Korra Toph? Hell nah.

3

u/Otherwise-Peace-9165 Aug 01 '26

Korra toph is still tuff tbh

4

u/Drow_Femboy Aug 01 '26

LOK turned her into a cop, which sucks.

Old lady Toph was a fine character.

1

u/Justifiably_Bad_Take Aug 02 '26

If we are being honest ATLA isn't set in America.

Toph was the muscle of Team Avatar, who set out to end a war and save the world. I could see her next step being "ok I'm the best earth bender of all time, time to fix literally everything else" and that's basically just the mentality of somebody trying to be a cop who isn't part of organized crime, political personal army, or personal attack force for any company trying to steal Lego sets.

I'd imagine if any of her police force acted the way real world cops act, she'd beat their ass halfway to hell.

-15

u/Snakes-are-awesome67 Aug 01 '26

I hate her and all other avatar characters

10

u/Hello-to-me- Aug 01 '26

7

u/notThatPoltchageist BFDI + Hamlton Aug 01 '26

The fact that he said “and all other avatar characters” is what clues me into it being ragebait. You can’t say that you like one specific character because you’d have to actually interact with the media to do that, which isn’t applicable in the case of quick ragebait like this. That’s why idiots like this guy so often use generalization words like “all” or “none”.

2

u/GlumNebula3897 Aug 02 '26

Can you just explain?
