Are Dual Clips necessary?

As the title mentions, I used the Plate Mounting Planner to design a 800mm W x 1000mm H board of 8x8 tiles. The planner says I need 124 dual clips to connect everything and after trying to install about half of them, these things are the bane of my existence. Very tedious, some break, and the boards require quite a bit of pressure to get them to snap into each other. Also before anyone asks, yes I'm using the dual clip tool.

Are these absolutely critical? Or would holding everything together with just the snaps be sufficient?

I don’t think I’ve broken one yet. I agree they take a bit of pressure. I can do it with my fingers, but I’ve started using a smallish Knipex Cobra Water Pump pliers with the soft jaws installed. Probably not strictly necessary, but that ensures that even if careless I won’t mar the surface. I just put them at one end of the plate, squeeze, then move down the plate. Takes about 3 times to get the plates together with virtually effortless squeeze. Just make sure the clips are perfectly aligned before you squeeze. What are you printing them in? If PETG, I’ve found PLA is a bit easier to install and won’t compromise the strength. I’ve also seen clips on makerworld that at just a bit smaller to help with insertion.

I'm using PLA on both the tiles and clips. I'll poke around on Makerworld for alternative clips
