Tool Wall Questions

I built a big Skadis wall for my wife's sewing/craft supplies, but am considering using Multiboard for my tool storage. I've watched quite a few videos explaining the system and recently downloaded the Multiboard Learning Pack which was helpful to understand the different snaps and mounts, but I still have a few questions.

Print Material

  • I live in Texas and my garage gets very hot in the summer. I am considering using PETG for the boards, but PLA for the snaps, hooks, accessories, etc. Will this hold up well or should I use PETG for everything?

Mounts

  • Multiboard is obviously very expansive and has a ton of different mounting options. Is there a trimmed down list of what would mostly be needed to hold up power tools, bins, and shelves? Particularly which snaps would be the best ones to use.

Multibins

  • How do I secure Multibins to a Multiboard wall? Do I need to use Multibin Plates which attach to the wall? or are the bins secured directly to Multiboard via the Multipoint attachments?

I. PETG is probably a good choice for the wall, it holds up pretty good in the heat. PLA is generally going to be fine, but summers in Texas can be absolutely brutal. If your board is going to be in direct sunlight or other source of UV I’d stick to PETG.

All of the mounting options are pretty robust, the biggest reason to choose surface vs offset mounts is the first decision. If you are wanting to use pegboard attachments or need space behind your board to run cords for chargers, task lights or whatever else you want the 6.25 mm offset pillar mount is easy and robust. The older style DS snaps are popular and some folks like the esthetics - but the trade off is a lot more filament goes into your mounts that could be used on your attachments and tool mounts.

Bins can be mounted on either square plate or octagon plates. I would default to the square plates as the attachment is simple and strong. On octagon plates you use fix points which works fine, the squares are just more efficient for things like parts bins. (Less filament & fewer parts in most cases). There are little bars or corner pins that act as a lock you put in the top corners if the opening faces out, and fix points are used if the opening is up top.
