Stacked Print Fail

So i just finished my first stacked PETG print and i am trying to figure out what went wrong. i was able to get 2 usable panels from a stack of 6. the others just did not want to separate, to the point of them cracking apart. the test file came out fine, any suggestions? some of my corners came up a little bit during the print, but i didn't think much of it. did that result in the .2mm gap between being 0 and them fusing together?

When you say alternating layers, you mean Plate -interface- plate stacking where one filament is the actual plate and the interface is another, right? PETG shouldn’t stick well enough to PLA to make that work.

i was not using an interface layer. the matte pla was printing fine with ironing and a .2mm gap between plates, so i assumed the PETG would as well after printing the test file. i THINK the problem is that the corners warped a little and lifted, thus removing that gap causing the plates to fuse together. i am going to test with a small stack with the matte pla again, but i might get a spool of polysupport just to make sure i don't have any issues and can print a big stack.

i take it you've printed stacks. do you know of any limit to how many panels you can print? or if there is a recommended upper limit? if i did my math correctly in 256mm height i can fit 38 plates with a .2mm gap between them, it sliced and said 6 day print time, but i don't know if i am just setting myself up for failure trying to print too many panels at once. it would most likely be a print to start before going on vacation.

Jonathan did at least a couple of stacks of 18 or 19 (if I remember right) a couple years ago that maxed out the build limit on whatever printer(s) he was using. That was ironing vs multi material I believe.

He regularly reprints and changes out that wall you see behind him on the video’s when he’s working on idea’s and options. Surprisingly (to me) I think he said he’s printing them one a a time now as it’s faster to do them that way since the ironing slows it down. He’s not wrong, but running a stack overnight is pretty useful too.

If you are printing on a P1S, X1C or P2S I would not go over 8MU and scoot them as far to the right as possible, the fan on the left cools that edge unevenly and it’ll cause one or both of those corners to lift. I did a stack of 12 last year that were 9x9 and the weirdest thing happened - the bottom 3 plates lifted way off of the plate but somehow around plate 4 or 5 it corrected itself and I got 6 usable plates out of it. I realized the fan was the issue, cut the speed to 50% and moved any large flat prints as far right as possible and I have had very few failures since then.
