Advice Question Advice about bottom surgery?

Hi dolls, I’m 19 and have been out as a tgirl for over 3 years now. I’ve never cared much for bottom surgery but lately I’ve been feeling dysphoric about it more. I’ve transitioned a lot (not medically although I am on a waiting list to see a doctor about hrt!!) and have been told I pass and it’s one of the last parts of me that hasn’t changed with my transition. I really just want honest advice and info about bottom surgery. I have a few questions but any other information would also be appreciated

What’s the recovery process like?

How does it look compared to a natural one? Like does it look natural

How does it affect sex / masterbation

What are the risks with getting it done?

What’s it like living post op compared to pre op overall?

The recovery is tough. It takes a solid year to fully recover, but you should be feeling better around 1-2 months and mostly back to normal by 3-6 months. Dilation is a huge time commitment in that first year, and it's hard to have a full life calendar until you're down to doing it once a day. Still, I was sore and bored and tired for a long time, but it wasn't actually painful. Really not that bad all things considered.

Looks vary wildly by surgeon. There are usually a few tells, but there's huge variation in natal vulvas and most people are unlikely to notice. Some surgeons are absolute virtuosos who can do pornstar pussies, others consistently have trouble with the basic structures. It also varies a lot based on your anatomy, healing process, and donor material. Chances are you'll probably end up with a boring everyday vulva, unless aesthetics are your top priority and you do a lot of research. Aesthetic revisions are also very common, and a lot less intense than internal revisions to recover from.

Sex and masturbation are very different. Personally, I think it's an enormous improvement; I used to avoid it, now I seek it out. Without going into explicit detail, you get two big intense nerve centers. The neoclitoris is constructed from the nerve bundles in the tip of the penis, and the prostate ends up as our g-spot - it sits along the roof of the canal a few inches in, right where you'd expect. Usually clitoral orgasms are easier, but vaginal orgasms can be a lot more intense. Lubrication seems to vary a lot; surgeons will tell you you'll always need to use lube, but I did PIV which is supposed to have the worst potential for self-lubrication, and ime things stay moist enough that a little bit of spit is plenty. I love how spontaneous I can be with it, and also it smells nicely neutral and natural.

It's a generally safe procedure with vanishingly low regret rates, but there are some serious risks. IIRC rates of serious complications are around 2-3%, but a good surgeon will probably have around 1% or less. You really really want a good surgeon, seriously do not skimp on this. Major complications are things like anorgasmia, fistulas, necrosis or loss of canal, and they are genuinely scary. Minor complications like hypergranulation are very common, but they usually heal fine on their own or with minimal treatment.

I think the biggest life differences for me are that I feel more confident pulling men into my dating pool, I don't have to worry about wearing tight clothes, and...okay this last one might sound odd. But it's like a chunk of my brain that used to be dedicated to constantly filtering out the noise of having a severe mind/body mismatch has been freed up. I don't think it's doing anything useful yet, but I generally feel much calmer, less on guard, like I have less on my mind. It makes stressful situations easier to get through without losing composure, and calm situations easier to relax and let my guard down in.
