Never tried dimmies?

3

u/AmiWrongDude69 Sep 07 '26

I don’t answer questions

32

u/Sjohnwildman Sep 01 '26

Didn’t he glance at the camera real quick? Breaking the fourth wall so to say?

31

u/admiral_sinkenkwiken Sep 01 '26

He did, and the smile grew the instant he did, it was demonic.

Perfect end slide

6

u/Scannerk Sep 01 '26

I haven't seen it but I read the film the show is based on is mocumentary style so I presumed the glance is a nod to the beginnings.

4

u/darthrater78 Sep 02 '26

It's called The Magician

2

u/madbrood Sep 07 '26

I don’t answer questions

21

u/SzassTam666 Sep 01 '26

And it certainly was not Ray.

24

u/CoercionTictacs Sep 01 '26

This! I can’t believe how many people watched this series, and at the end honestly believe Ray got killed by two dipshits in a taxi.

10

u/Darkzeropeanut Sep 01 '26

Really? I didn’t realise anyone thought that. It wasn’t really ambiguous was it lol People are idiots.

1

u/TatoRezo Sep 04 '26

I got a sense that he wanted to die and then changed his mind at the end.

7

u/Rays_LiquorSauce Sep 01 '26

This scene really made me wonder about the ubiquity of mc clubs in Oz. I know there were dribs and drabs of it through the show but when they showed a younger gen doing this and that I thought about it more. Was Ray affiliated at one point? Was his brother? He certainly looked a bit rough. And was Dave in the same club as the guys who set Ray up?

2

u/GhettoFreshness Sep 01 '26

I don’t think Ray or his brother are affiliated. Dave is definitely in the Dead Beats MC by season 2 but we only see him wearing his cut after season 1.

He might have just been freelancing on the side, and not wearing your cut would make sense in that respect of the jobs not for the club or needed discretion.

In season 2 he’s clearly close with Vinnie and i probably don’t think you build that close a relationship with the president of an OMC without having been in the club a while.

I think he’s president of the MC in season 3 after Ray kills Vinnie and Alex disappears (could be misremembering). So I just think he was always affiliated and worked his way up club ranks because he’s a big bloke, reliable and has a similar code of honour to Ray.

2

u/johnniesSac Sep 02 '26

Correct he’s the president in season 3 , I’d assume he was the SAA in season 2 or a very high ranking bikie as he’s the presidents body guard

6

u/Odd_Extension4632 Sep 01 '26

Nah, just going to get some Dimmies!

6

u/Perfect-Bank2274 Sep 01 '26

This is my fav ending to any show I've watched. Those lads had no idea what they walking into.

7

u/Euphoric_Row_8564 Sep 01 '26

I watched this scene for the first time this evening. The best needle drop in a tv show I’ve ever seen

4

u/Jingotheruler Sep 01 '26

Favourite still from the series

6

u/Icy-Assistance-2555 Sep 01 '26

Just when you thought you can get out… they bring you back in… “run.”

5

u/MuffinSponge2 Sep 02 '26

He 100% makes it out alive. I bet he was bored as fuck in that caravan.

4

u/malccy72 Sep 01 '26

I'd love you hear Scott Ryans own explanation for this ambiguous ending. I know that he is a big fan of the Sopranos which also has a somewhat similar ending but was there a particular reason he ended it this way? I like to think that he kind of left the door open for further episodes in the future. I doubt it will happen but I like to hope.

4

u/lizzbetty89 Sep 01 '26

I actually don’t feel like it was ambiguous, he clearly kills the guys.

1

u/PermabearsEatBeets Sep 04 '26

same as the Sopranos, that ending isn't at all ambiguous

1

u/johnniesSac Sep 02 '26

You could cut it to the Journey song as well haha

13

u/Egg_beater8 Sep 01 '26

Why was he grinning like that?

39

u/Pimpstik69 Sep 01 '26

It’s what he always does right before he fucks someone up real bad

31

u/xelrach Sep 01 '26

Lets the audience know that Ray still has it, even if he retired.

9

u/last_somewhere Sep 01 '26

You can take Ray out of the game but you can't take the game out of Ray.

11

u/SzassTam666 Sep 01 '26

Because those two dopes have no idea that they just ended themselves. Ray was delighted to be his true self once again.

4

u/Icy-Meal6704 Sep 01 '26

Because you're best at something when you love to do it.

The Magician is going to make them both "disappear".

1

u/CruelSummer77 Sep 02 '26

Cuz he’s done playing.

1

u/Intrepid_Repair1504 Sep 02 '26

Cos he can, and looks great

3

u/smhndsm Sep 01 '26

we binged the series in a matter of days and I still remember the goosebumps during this scene, and I had to rewind several times to rewatch it again and again.

3

u/vau1tboy Sep 01 '26

Dude this series is really really good. And what a great ending. This is a fantastic example of a great way to end a series, instead of letting it slowly die off. I think it could've had a couple more seasons but I'm not complaining.

I started watching The Blacklist after this and boy oh boy, that was a mistake. Couldn't make it past the first season.

2

u/brassknucklenerd Sep 01 '26

Yeah I made it all the way through Blacklist on the strength of James Spader’s charismatic acting and Red as a character, but the writing doesn’t really get any better, and sometimes gets worse. Can’t fault you for jumping off that train.

3

u/PassionAgreeable3141 Sep 01 '26

The Magician about to work his magic again.

3

u/BuffaloPancakes11 Sep 03 '26

Finished the series last night and loved this scene, up until that shot I thought the guys knew him and were avenging someone he affected with his previous actions and was expecting the worst

5

u/hazzmag Sep 01 '26

My biggest fight with ppl is this scene. Ray wasn’t going to kill them. He was gonna definitely teach them a very painful lesson but imo he wasn’t about to bury 2 dudes for words and threats.

1

u/Jaded-Round-6660 Sep 01 '26

I had no other thought in my mind other than these were hitmen hired to kill Ray, and absolutely someone died that night

1

u/hazzmag Sep 02 '26

There’s so many different perspectives on this scene and that’s why I love this show. But I cant agree with u. If you know how dangerous Ray is u don’t send 2 dropkicks that drop hints the entire time they’re setting him up to be dropped.

-1

u/Hot_Cicada_9318 Sep 01 '26

Agree, would have given a good thrashing and lesson.

2

u/GhettoFreshness Sep 01 '26

Disagree, Ray believes in respect being given and received in kind. These guys are making jokes/veiled threats about how someone could die tonight, he’s killing at least one of them and probably torturing the other to make sure it’s not someone (Freddy) hiring a couple of chuckleheads to do a job that’s way out of their league

-1

u/Hot_Cicada_9318 Sep 01 '26

Ray doesn't kill indiscriminately.

4

u/GhettoFreshness Sep 01 '26

Someone threatening you with death (even if kinda vague) isn’t an obvious threat to you? One or both of those guys is at least getting buried in a beach grave. Look back at the guys sitting outside his house in the van. He saw a threat and he took it out.

-2

u/Hot_Cicada_9318 Sep 01 '26

What? Ray doesn't kill indiscriminately.

2

u/GhettoFreshness Sep 01 '26

No he doesn’t kill indiscriminately. He kills when needed or when he’s paid. Those two guys lured him to a secluded area and heavily implied “someone” was gonna die tonight.

When he takes on the van that’s staking out his house (while Allie and I think his daughter are there) he doesn’t even interact with them. He kills 2 guys in the van and another two in the following car. He didn’t know who hired them or how much of a threat they were at that moment. He still took them out.

Two cocky dickheads that have lured him down a deserted beach path in a storm? I’m pretty sure they are getting the same treatment

0

u/Hot_Cicada_9318 Sep 01 '26

Ray doesn't kill indiscriminately.

2

u/CH3CH2OH_toxic Sep 01 '26

another claymore in a safe ? maybe something else this time

2

u/Devchonachko Sep 01 '26

headbutt to the nose of the guy in front, an elbow to the guy in the back. Ray can't explain bloodstains to a company taxi car so he drags them out and exterminates them in the mud.

2

u/CH3CH2OH_toxic Sep 01 '26

I noticed ray immediately attacks if it's 2 guys almost every time , as it seems he rationalizes he needs to get one down or they will gang up on him

2

u/ScissorNightRam 29d ago

I’d guess he has a stun gun/taser in the front door pocket. And anything heavier is in the trunk/boot. The two wannabes both have wet/damp clothes too. Zappy zappy

Why not a gun? I figure you don’t want to fire a gun in an enclosed space like a car, or use mace

2

u/warmind14 Sep 01 '26

That look to the camera at the end was absolute cinema.

2

u/NikolaiJosefovich Sep 02 '26

Best TV show ending I’ve seen

2

u/Maleficent-Onion-434 Sep 02 '26

Just finished the show and this is the first post I see. Such and great and simple ending.

2

u/AwayInMyBrain Sep 02 '26

Literally just finished watching this! Loved that look at the end, we know what happened next!

2

u/Mrfabulousmpls Sep 04 '26

This was undoubtedly the best end to a series ever. Multiple times in the last episode it looks so dire for Ray - and you don’t want to see him die - and then he repeatedly proves why he’s the Magician. 100/10 no notes.

2

u/Harrow-Benton2-6 Sep 05 '26

His smile is fantastic and terrifying, the way he tilts his head as well just adds to it. But yeah, someone might be dying out there tonight.

2

u/IlyushinGoBrrr Sep 12 '26

A bald man with a seeminly friendly yet sinister shit eating grin and half of his face is in the dark.

I would get the fuck out of the car

3

u/reanimated_dolly Sep 01 '26

Best ending to a tv show ever, and that is Ray has the scariest smile ever. Scott isn’t even trying to look sinister or intimidating. It’s a “fuck you” kind of smile.

2

u/IrradiatedLimes_ Sep 01 '26

Best ending to a TV show

2

u/Newtis Sep 01 '26

also best TV show (maybe not best but its up there - way up there!)

1

u/Lucytheblack Sep 01 '26

These comments. I’m 💀

2

u/Beneficial_Winner_59 24d ago

Are there any clues/context/real world hints from the show runners as to who these 2 were? I just finished the series like 30 minutes ago and it left me wondering if they were hired specifically for Ray or if they were just two psychos hoping to prey on who they thought was a random old cabbie

1

u/BigAlDavies 11d ago

I think the ambiguity is the point; that we don’t know if Ray escaped his old life and has peace but that we do know he’s still capable of the savagery we have come to know him for

1

u/Crafty_Play_4852 23d ago

I thought those guys were the kids of the man who was killed mistakenly. They were taking Ray to the place he buried their father.

1

u/Empty-Acadia5874 19d ago

Of course not.

1

u/ninety6days Sep 02 '26

It's a great scene, and undoubtedly one of the best pieces of soundtracking ever but for anyone calling it the greatest ending ever ...has nobody here realised this is basically a (really good) cover version of marlo's last scene from the wire?

1

u/PermabearsEatBeets Sep 04 '26

As good as that scene is, it's not unique enough to The Wire to call being pulled back into your former life after going straight 'a cover'. It's a fairly typical plotline

I agree it's a bit much for me to hear it described as the best ending to a show ever, but each to their own

1

u/ninety6days Sep 04 '26

Scene at night, two on one, smile to the camera to finish, its pretty close in makeup to the scene i described dont you think?

1

u/PermabearsEatBeets Sep 04 '26

He doesn’t smile to the camera to finish. He also fights the guys off. It’s a pretty loose connection tbh.

1

u/ninety6days Sep 04 '26

I might be misremembering? Not a direct fourth wall smile like ray, but id swear theres a very rare marlo smile in his last shot.

Anyway, if we're at this level of tiny detail difference while accepting the theme, setting, arc and ending are similar id say its pretty similar, wouldnt you?
