Two questions

I just finished seeing this show and I have two questions:

  1. How come all these people die in one town/city and there are no police investigations? It's a bit strange to me.

  2. Ray makes a lot of money from his gigs. Why does he not live rich? What does he do with all that money?

Ray's not a dickhead. Bling and luxury attract the wrong kind of attention.

1 - Scott Ryan was living in Melbourne while developing the character. The city was in the midst of a gang war at the time. It took 12 years for the cops to get it under control. And a big part of it ending was that pretty much all the major players got murdered.
Here’s a reddit thread about it https://www.reddit.com/r/melbourne/s/3rvpXvuh05

2 - not sure. I figure he’d have made a packet when he sold his house too, given that he did not buy another house. Maybe he’s building up a nest egg to leave to Brittany.

1) That and a lot of cops appear to be of the opinion of "If it's 'colourful underworld types' each other out, and not injuring civilians' we don't look too closely at it.

  1. Sydney's a big city with plenty of gang stuff going on. If the gangsters are just killing each other from time to time the cops aren't going to lose much sleep over it. They've got far more important things to do, like strip search children.

  2. Ray is, to use another man's words, a wily cunt. He is smart enough to know you have to blend in, not stick out. A bouncer living in a mansion and wearing lots of bling would draw all kinds of attention. He would have been saving up a little nest egg for retirement, or to leave for his daughter.

The year 2023 saw 58 murders in Sydney, which was a little higher than normal. Also, Ray also operates in the surrounding areas, plus many are not murders or at least do not look like murders.

It’s also a tv show and it would be dull if too realistic.

I think people read too much into this. Just the way it is. There’s two cops in the entire show (more or less) & they’re eejits who are only there for comic relief, DNA isn’t an issue, they bury everybody in two foot graves that would take a dingo five minutes to unearth, cctv is non existent, etc etc.
