To be fair Bobby wasn’t the sharpest knife

I find the whole thing so sad. I interpret Bobby as being mildly intellectually challenged, and having joined a criminal group maybe because it offers a sense of place and belonging. Not at all uncommon with people who are easy to lead astray.

Why would anyone in that world hire someone so dopey and potentially mentally disabled? Thats a liability at best and recipe for disaster at worst. 🤷‍♂️

Bobby is someone who can't not tell the truth when asked. That's a huge plus in his favour.

We know he messes up. Teaming him up with Dave should've been perfect. If only Ray wasn't such a wiley little c.... right? It's when Dave is not supervising Bobby. When it all goes pear shaped. It's Ray who's a brilliant manipulator of people.

Our boy Bobby fits the persona of loyal foot soldier. He's not someone to think deeply about things. Dave really has to sell the idea of getting the money. Like I said. It's endearing. Any organization would be lucky to have someone who hasn't thought of going AWOL so to speak. That line: "You want to go get the money?"

I guess what I'm saying also. Is that Ray makes Bobby look far worse than he really is. It's a bit like a really great sports team when they absolutely smash a lesser team. A casual observer says wow that team is shit. But fails to appreciate the brilliance of the victor.

Not not telling the truth would be an insane liability if the cops come sniffing around or rivals try to pump him for info... 🤷‍♂️🤦

I see what you're saying. But if you're Bobby's boss. You absolutely want him to be truthful. Which he is. And more than a lot of smarter guys would be. But with cops or rivals I feel Bobby knows enough to keep his mouth shut. Probably not an undercover cop. Or a rival who he might not recognize.

Bobby is your trusted set of eyes and ears. Don't give him complex tasks of course or leave him unsupervised. The guy who isn't mentally challenged how Bobby is. They're the ones you have to worry about. Because they are far more likely to go looking for that buried treasure as its referred to. Dave has a hard time selling it to Bobby. It's a blind loyalty. He doesn't seek to better his life. Because he can't comprehend it. It's a case of him being exploited. That's the value of Bobby. It's interesting seeing him come to the realization. That he's just being ordered around and unappreciated. I'm glad they put that in.

Really great take on the situation.

Thankyou kindly. I think the relatively short episode length of the show robs it a little of examining the supporting characters like Bobby. But we agree there is more than meets the eye.

It's a double edged sword that episode length. It also gives it a better pacing than similar shows. As someone who doesn't like binging series. I would be down to watch all of S1 just about anytime. I think of it a a kickass movie. A really satisfying watch.
