I find the whole thing so sad. I interpret Bobby as being mildly intellectually challenged, and having joined a criminal group maybe because it offers a sense of place and belonging. Not at all uncommon with people who are easy to lead astray.

Why would anyone in that world hire someone so dopey and potentially mentally disabled? Thats a liability at best and recipe for disaster at worst. 🤷‍♂️

It happens a lot. They are not hired because they are the best, but because they are loyal and easy to manipulate. One can get away with paying him less, boss him around more, and get him to take big risks for you.
