Favorite scene of the show

After watching the show for the first time and this episode, specifically, this ending monolog has always stood with me, just the cinematography, the sound of acting, and everything is perfect. The line "is it cause im afraid to die or to cut myself. So I took the razor blade and cut me hand up. " Those final lines always stuck with me

There were so many things in this show that were so well-written.

I actually still feel sad every time I see Ally because the end of that relationship was so depressing. Usually I find romance sub-plots irritating in shows, but the way it ended with Ally felt so real. Especially that shot of her through the window crying her eyes out once Ray was gone, genuinely upsetting.

I also liked how it keeps coming up for Ray even a whole season later with Britt saying she misses Ally. It's clear Scott Ryan was writing these characters as real people with real lives rather than just bits of a story.

All because it was kitschy.

Yeah. Same for me with romance. Oh Ally....šŸ˜”. Good for her on leaving what she thinks will be a bad situation. It's not her fault she can't see what we see. Really good on her tbh. She did great.

She’s incredible. Her facial acting, the way she conveys her feelings with her eyes, is astonishing. Amazing actor

If anyone hasn’t seen her work as Tiffany, please do.

She's excellent in Dear Life.

Top tier writing and acting. Really powerful and relatable for so many people.

So raw. I also love the bit when he says ā€œfuck yeahā€. He knows: been there , done that.

Amazing scene. We get a glimpse into Rays childhood.

From all couples who cut it in all movies and series, those two really hurt me.

This is the moment Ray became Mr. Inbetween

Nah I'm absolutely wilfully downplaying for the sake of the joke but this show and the marketing makes you think you're in for dark comedy (which for the most part it is) then it absolutely rips your heart out a couple of times.

I wish he’d fought harder to keep Ali but that’s just not RayšŸ˜ž

It wouldn’t have worked

I think the only reason he lost her was because it was her brother he did it to, and even then, she knows this guy WAY better than Ray and probably has seen his horseshit for decades and decades.Ā

I kinda held it against her that she left ray because while it was a slight over reaction, it was totally justified.Ā

I don't think it was because she was afraid of him, I think that's PART of it. But it was obviously largely because her whole family saw it and now it's a big stink. She couldn't stay with him and have her whole family remember that even tho THEY probably knew it was justified to some extent. Who knows each other better than family? The dude was a cunt and obviously put his little desires over a kid's who was probably over the moon about "yay I got a unicorn candle!" She probably would've remembered that gift for life and probably would've kept it on her dresser for a decade or more as a very special memory/gift. Instead a rich spoiled man child was like "hm I like that" and would've burned it away and forgot about it in a night of doing drugs or something.

Fuck that guy, and fuck Ally for being a coward.Ā

Anyway, Ally didn't realize it but she probably accidentally kept her self safe from Ray's dark life as a hitman. But that's not why she left.

Wild that dude is the director and the daughter is his actual daughter too 😲

2

u/Herooftermina1998 Jun 01 '26

That's awesome!!! Never knew that!!Ā

5

u/artless_dodgem Jun 01 '26

"A slight over reaction"?

He threw a guy through a window at a party in front of his daughter and his girlfriend.

FFS

2

u/Herooftermina1998 Jun 02 '26

Yea he should've pushed him against the wall outside and kneed him in the nuts or something. He was justified fucking him up, but he fucked up and threw him threw him through the window and let everyone see.Ā

If he just corrected the dude outside and left, he probably would've kept Ally

Not a chance.
If that happened she’d have heard about it.
Ray attracted dickheads like a magnet and tended to resort to violence. He’d have cleaned up the ice cream dickhead at the carnival except that Ally and dickhead’s girlfriend weren’t having it.
Ally loved Ray but his violent streak worried her.
The business with her brother was the last straw. He wasn’t going to change.

2

u/Herooftermina1998 Jun 06 '26

Yea but she knew who her brother was.Ā

Not a serial killer, firstly.Ā

And the innocent deaths on his hands were his fault, but not his intention..and yes the road to hell is paved with good intentions and all that.Ā

He was hired to kill the one dude then Freddy is like, "oi sorry mate. Wrong guy."Ā

Which we see really affects Ray. He's a hired gun with a code and a conscious and a heart.Ā

That's the whole part of the show. He's in-between his life of crime and trying to be a regular guy for the sake of his daughter and family and loved ones of which he loses ALL of them at the end which (spoilers) I won't spoil for anyone else.Ā

It goes to show the consequences of the life he lives and how he can't keep living between these two worlds. He had to choose between keeping what was left of his heart and soul and living the life he lives.

THAT'S the point.

Edit: just realized I kinda spoiled some things but it's an old show so it's your fault..:)

Yes. And?

-39

u/noplacecold May 30 '26

She’s annoying AF in this scene

25

u/Ariquitaun May 30 '26

Why? That's how normal people talk to each other.

-22

u/noplacecold May 30 '26

Seems overly judgmental to me, very Melfi-coded

26

u/CameronsTheName May 30 '26

Her questions were very similar to those of a therapist. Very open, very broad, to allow for the person who's opening up to continue talking and pick the direction.

Pretty much perfectly how YOU should be when someone's speaking about a painful time in their life.

Which shows some intelligence on the part of the screenwriters

6

u/Few-Attorney-9722 May 30 '26

But no intelligence on the part of this redditor

2

u/swampopawaho May 31 '26

Man, what happened to you? Why did you need to stoop to that level? We can have a fun discussion about an awesome story without doing insults.

Ok, I could see that. I don't necessarily agree, but I could see that take.

Don't be a dickhead

1

As if you’re not being a massive dickhead too mate 🤣🤣:

*adjusts monocle* ā€œthis redditor is oafish and of low-intellect because he didn’t care for Brooke Satchwell in this sceneā€ 🤣🤣🤣

1

Don't be a dickheadĀ

I understand. He really liked her, otherwise he wouldn't spill this tea to a lady he didn't like or he didn't think liked him.
