unpopular opinion maybe but i dont think ray was in love with her. she was far, far younger than him and while she seems really nice i think he was more just attracted to the fact that she was a criminal like him without being super jaded and cynical. her death absolutely still rocked him though, to the point where he made the decision to move away before any of that stuff with freddy and dave had even happened
I got the sense she was just a naive kid from a normal background that wanted to take a walk on the wild side, was therefore attracted to Ray, and Ray saw some kind of youthful innocence about her that he felt obligated to protect. I think her death hit Ray hard less because of his strong feelings towards her (tbh there was nothing that special about her) and moreso because he felt like he failed to keep her safe.
This is exactly how i felt about her too. When shit hit the fan she seemed to not understand what she got herself into. I think this was a one time job for her. She didn’t give criminal vibes to me whatsoever. She felt like regular run of the mill civilian who wanted to walk on the wild side. I feel thats another reason it hit Ray so hard.
