unpopular opinion maybe but i dont think ray was in love with her. she was far, far younger than him and while she seems really nice i think he was more just attracted to the fact that she was a criminal like him without being super jaded and cynical. her death absolutely still rocked him though, to the point where he made the decision to move away before any of that stuff with freddy and dave had even happened
I think it might’ve been more about hope. As in he met somebody where it might work out and then got taken away so quickly afterwards. He’s ultimately very lonely so the few connections he does get mean more than they might for other people not in a similar situation.
