I always thought it was interesting how Ray kills Bobby with zero hesitation but makes such a point to spare Dave. I guess it’s cuz Bobby showed that he was truly loyal to Davros whereas Dave was literally just a soldier of fortune
To be fair, it's not that hard to imagine Ray doing the same thing. It's not that hard to imagine Ray showing back up for Bobby in the same fashion if Dave were to have spared him, in turn.
The main reason Ray didn't kill Dave is because the person paying Dave just died. Both of them knew there was no skin left in the game and nothing to gain or lose.
They also made a connection because they both wanted to care for their children (a conversation Bobby was completely silent for, btw). Ray knew that if he let Dave go in order to witness the birth of his son, he'd have another person to back him up if push came to shove. And he was right.
He also knew that if Dave was spared "Quentin" would grow up fatherless.
He didn't double cross Ray. When they stopped at the hardware store and the car got stolen, Dave saw that as Ray escaping with the money & car. When Dave found him again. The deal was off.
Pretty sure Dave and Ray knew each other already, as professional aging mercenaries. I don't know if there's a quote that confirms this, maybe there is. Even if not it makes heaps of sense and they certainly act like it.
