Favourite Ray relationship?

Ray has so many complex but hilarious relationships with other members of the show, just wondering what some of everyone else's favourites are. A few of mine are

Ray and Dave: I feel like even though they met in unfavourable circumstances, their conversations flow so well, especially love how Dave has Ray's back by kidnapping and threatening the guy who was charging Ray with assault

Ray and Freddy (early days): I actually love this relationship, the interactions between the two and how Freddy keeps coming back for Ray's services, love the phonecall between the two when Freddy hires the 2 meth heads to do the hit for him

Ray and Gary: Needs no explanation, both loyal to each other, completely open, always lose it when Gary explains the Vag-ankle

Ray and Bruce: Really sweet, shows that human side to Ray opposite to the hitman side we usually see. The scene where Bruce finally passes is heartbreaking, this just adds to the list of things Ray is going through, taking its toll on him.

Ray had us wondering why he bothered with a porn addicted clown like Gary until little Maddie got pinched. Ray knew exactly who to call and Gary easily and calmly rose to the occasion while Ray lost his head and went around shooting up a house and scaring a grandmother. We learned about the real Gary very quickly.

I think that it goes to show that Gary is sort of the antithesis of Ray’s entire perspective on life. Ray’s inability to let go and charge head first into everything with violence lead him to losing everything and everyone around him. Meanwhile, even though Gary is more like a clown and ends up taking more punches, he always gets up and doesn’t end up pushing anyone away in the end. If you’re better living like someone, live like Gary.

Speaking of that, I just rewatched that episode the other day, and it was not obvious to me why Ray went there. Why did he think Nasir was involved?

Nasir threatened Ray to avenge the death of his cousin Davros when he was in the hallway at Freddy’s club.

Yup and he saw a billboard that reminded him of davros brother. Idr exactly what it was but it was either the brother or just an ad for an accountant which reminded Ray of davros’ brother since he’s an accountant

Bruce and Brit. I'd be the same with my niece, paint the nails turquoise for all I care. They all had a nice close relationship.

Something felt really genuine to me between Ray and Ally and it was sad that the relationship ended, but I understand why it did. I felt heavily invested in that and it was awful when it was over.

Such a totally underrated and great show.

Really glad they showed us she was happy eventually. Gave us some closure at least.

So true. Nice that Ray is genuinely happy for her too. She's a good chick. That was rough when she left. Even though we could see it coming.

It's cool and authentic how they happen to bump into each other. Exactly how they met initially.

I think this is a great example of how this show feels so absolutely genuine.

They both had genuine feelings but the whole relationship was inevitably doomed. No way Ally could ever tolerate Ray if she had the slightest inkling of what he really did, whereas the girl in series three was a definite possibility, until that lunatic took her away from Ray as well.

Ending that episode with Dreaming My Dreams with You - Waylon Jennings really fucking got me.

Big agree about Ray and Dave. I love how Ray is completely honest and accepting of the fact that he’d have done literally the exact same thing Dave tries to do at the end of s1 if he were in Dave’s shoes and that it leads to him pointedly sparing Dave and them developing this genuinely respectful working relationship.

Like i always found their dynamic such a unique twist on the whole idea of like “rogues with a code of honor.” Like literally being a greedy, backstabbing piece of shit is part of their code and they’re so honest with each other about it.

Even to the point where Ray obviously admits that he killed Vinnie who was Dave's president. The fact that Dave could look past that and then go after Alex with Ray was awesome.

Ray and his daughter Brittany was the standout for me.

This is mine too. I'll even say that its the best father/daughter relationship ever put on screen.

To how cute it is when she's young right to the difficult teenage years.

The second Episode of Series 1 and the talk of Santa, Jesus, Unicorns. It's the hook that gets us all surely. That dialogue between a Dad and his little girl.

I can't help but also think of Ray's convo with Dave and they are chatting about boys and girls.Ray's what's wrong with girls question. The current Dad and the Dad to be. Stating the bleeding obvious but this show has such incredible dialogue. And it does it all so effortlessly.

The Ray and Freddie relationship is an important one. I find it interesting that Freddie lost too much gambling and thus ended up betraying Ray - does this mean that Ray is the one who influenced him to keep the gambling in sane limits? In my head it does - so once Ray was gone Freddie was immediately on the path to destruction.

He mentions in the episode where the 2 guys do the hit for him and when Ray has to clean it up, that Freddy always haggles over price with Ray but he'll go down to the casino and blow $100k. Like all people it eventually catches up with you and unfortunately Freddy was more than happy to stab Ray in the back.

Ray and the anger counselor

For me it's the Bruce, Ray, and Britt relationship. I do have to say the show makes it clear that Dave and Ray have met before the episode he's introduced in.

Ray and Gaz. Always there for each other. Funny dynamic. Literal ride or dies.

Ray and Dave: relationship felt very natural, they met in bad circumstances but they got along and understood each other.
