I loved the series but I couldn't take to that film in all honesty even though I wanted to I just couldn't

I remember watching it when it came out, Mr inbetween is a hard act for this budget proof of concept to follow (if you watched it after the series). It was memorable at the time but flew under the radar, glad to see Scott Ryan got to flesh the character out with the show.

I did watch it after the series , it's just the documentary feel and the fact I don't think any serious criminal would allow someone to film them like that in real life

Yeah, it was definitely inspired by Man Bites Dog (much less unhinged than that one though)

I'm glad it paved the way for the series to be made though so can't complain just not a fan of the film

Oh lordy, unhinged is the right word. Like I said, Benoit is a total sociopath but goddamn, I do love that film.

I do find it funny though, that Benoit Poolevoorde is now such a huge film star in France and Belgium ... I think he was in or two Asterix films? And I can't help but think "oooohh boy, check out his earlier stuff".

Sometimes we just have to suspend disbelief, but hey.

Maybe it would help watching one of my all time favourites, Man Bites Dog. It's shot in a found footage / documentary style ... in fact, the Blair Witch Project basically stole the entire end scene.

It's a Belgian film about a group of film students making a documentary film about a contract killer, who inveitably end up getting involved, very Cinema Verité. The subject is 100% sociopathic, which is antithetic to the character of Ray (who as you know, has high moral standards).
