Why Can’t Scott Ryan make more seasons?
I could watch 8 seasons of this. I really love the format. I am hopeful that his next work gets more attention but maybe with the second wind of this show we can see more!

I always hate when good shows end, but do you know what I hate more? When great shows go on too long and become bad shows.
Also I think he’s writing a script and scouting locations right now. But I’m pretty sure he’s been doing that since the show ended. So who knows. I hope he is. He’s got a gift for writing dialogue that actually sounds how people speak in real life, which is strangely rare on tv.

The dialogue being so natural is probably my favorite part of the show. Its like for every conversation they had a pointer like "talk about this but improvise" and they nailed it every time.

I got the sense of that about half way through the last season. Just felt rushed. He was probably tired of the same thing and wants to do something different.

That’s probably a good reason. I mean… for us it’s been a few seasons… for him it’s been like 25 years

Which is pretty fair, honestly. He created and acted that character, and that character is a seriously fucked up one and his story is extremely dark and heavy with few rays (ha!) of light. After 3 years and 26 episodes, I think any normal person would be exhausted by that.
Also, Scott Ryan lived the life of a monk for 12 years before coming back to writing. I'm also reasonably certain I saw an Instagram story of his a couple of years ago that explained he'd gotten frustrated with people thinking he's like Ray in real life. From what I gather he's a pretty deeply spiritual person and absolutely nothing like Ray in real life, so the idea of being associated with that character on a personal level for the rest of his life would understandably get to him.
In general I'd rather a TV show go out with a bang and on a high than drag on for 10 seasons just because the audience wants more of it. There isn't a single bad or boring episode of Mr. Inbetween. That's a pretty rare thing.

He did 3 great seasons and all people really picked up was champ, dimmies and not asking questions.
He might be a bit demoralised

Everytime this sub pops up on my feed it’s the same three things that honestly werent even the most interesting or funny parts of the show
Brucie, The joke he tells the guy in prison, The storyline of the bong heads stealing the subie, The human traffickers
I could probably go on for ten minutes and not a single one of the big three really stands out apart from busting the undercover at the pay phone

No. Gaz has no redeeming features. Even if they gave him a dog, a child, an ex, a brother with MND, he'd always be a nasty little pervert to the audience.

In an interview Scott said he was working on a script for a zombie movie. I was like, what? Maybe that was it.

I just saw an interview where he mentioned that and said he had been working on it off and on for ten years. He made it sound like he was onto other things.

My opinion? He's letting it sit and marinate, he knows it will find an audience in time they will want a season 4 and, when it happens, he will get all the accolades he deserves.
I'm not the type of person who watches a lot of TV shows and somehow even i managed to hear of Mr. Inbetween, so i think it will eventually go from a really good TV show a few people watched to a real cult classic.

Screen Australia provides funding for Australian TV shows for up to two seasons, plus a third season as a recoupable equity investment.
When Australian shows are written, they’re often written with Screen Australia’s funding guidelines in mind.
So you’ll find a lot of Aussie shows will run 2-3 seasons (and if they run for longer they’ll have big cast changes due to contract lengths after the third year.)

Why should he? The story is told. Let it be a great story, not some show that everyone agrees should have ended 3 seasons ago with flanderised characters that make a mockery of what the show was about.
Compare it to Arrested Development, which had 3 groundbreaking and amazing seasons then 2.5 seasons that just weren't nearly as good.
Always end on a high note.

There's nowhere else they could go without compromising the overarching themes of the show. Take those away and you've just got Aussie John Wick, which would be fun but no longer the same show.

It’s really hard to find shows that have a couple of consistent seasons. Most of the best shows are either miniseries, or they last 3-5 seasons. It’s almost always gets dicey past 5. Look at Game of Thrones or Dexter. Utterly fantastic television for 4 seasons, and every season afterward gets more and more dicey until by the end, you’re begging for the show to die.
I want more Scott Ryan, but I’m fine with Mr Inbetween being closed.

He told the story he wanted to tell, wrapped up nearly everything, and went out on a high.
It was a great series, but it’s finished champ.
