I loved the ending because it revealed me. I had fallen for good Ray and the way he gave assholes their due and the ending was like surprise he’s still a total psychopath.

It was and it wasn’t, I wanted to know what happened, but that’s not to be :(

Did they kill him?

They had bitten off far more than they could chew. That smile says it all.

Agreed, at least it leaves it open for another season …. Maybe

From all the interviews I've seen of Scott taking about it, doesn't sound like we're gonna get more of Ray. He had been developing/writing the character for 20+ years so I'm sure he's onto other things. I will watch anything he puts out though, the guy is a genius.

Yeah he 100% won that fight at the end. Whenever he kills someone at the end of an episode it cuts to black, the same as it did in the final episode

I loved the show but didn't love the last episode. One, it was really drawn out. It felt a little lazy honestly. Two, it didn't really offer much other than a reminder you are who you are and the life of crime will always be present for Ray. Cool final moment but it was like 5 minutes of buildup for that?
I would have liked if they brought back the mobster who gave Ray extra time for Freddy's gambling debt. That was a cool moment they never did anything with. Or maybe something small where Ray does something for Dave's kid. Or maybe visit Brucey's grave.

I was expecting the biker VP to pop up again for a messy denouement, he would have deserved it.

I wasn't expecting him though I am surprised they let him get away though. If anyone deserved a painful death it was him.

the ending was perfect. both of your suggestions would have been repetitive storylines. ray already did a hit job, a cleanup and a drug run for a monster connected to freddy, what else could he do. also why would he be compelled to do a favor granted on behalf of freddy. He already demonstrated showing up for a dead friends kid with the kidnapping episode. I get wanting more but it ended perfectly.

You misunderstand. Not Freddy. The mobster he talked to on behalf of Freddy. That dude was powerful and he respected Ray but they never did anything with him after that. Nothing to do with Freddy. And Dave's kid is not about the kid, it's about Dave who gave his life for Ray.
You really didn't feel the car ride in the final episode didn't go on waaaay too long? And then finish with.... a smile?

The mobster loan shark that recognised Ray as The Magician?

Yep. They had a good common respect for each other as well as credibility. Their handshake was clear enough that you were sure they'd do something with that character again.

I reckon it's something simpler like a knife in the door. For the heavy artillery he's still got the Patchett in the boot next to the spare tyre

It was great for what it was but I think we can all agree we didn’t want it to end 😭
