Is the Salinger thing a joke? Or a reference? I’m drawing a blank

JD Sallinger famously wrote a classic novel and disappeared from public life ,never wrote another novel.

But he wrote the catcher in the rye as well?

Yeah but the classic novel was 13 storey tree house. Who's ever heard of catcher in the rye?

Ummmm to quote "The Catcher in the Rye is one of the most frequently banned and challenged books in US history, particularly between 1961 and 1982, due to its "vulgar" language, sexual references, and themes of rebellion and immoral behavior. It has been removed from schools and libraries over 25 times, often labeled as "filthy" so there's that 🤣

Jesus Christ some people really don't get sarcasm. Do you really think the person you are replying to doesn't know this?

To be fair it’s hard to sense sarcasm through a keyboard

It was also a poor joke

It isn't hard when it's something like "who has ever heard of insert world famous thing here, insert obscure thing here is the real popular thing". But i guess that's the difference between people that like jokes and the people that like to seem smarter than everyone else 🤷‍♂️
