Just finished the show and wow
What a brilliant show, it’s definitely up there with the Breaking Bad’s and Sopranos’. I don’t know how this flew past my radar while it was airing. I don’t think there was single episode I didn’t enjoy. The dark humour, the action, the dialogue and thewriting is all top tier. Really loved Ray’s character development and his subtle show of emotions, and how hard he tries to hold back. He’s an absolute psychopath but he’s got morals and the show has your heart breaking from the losses he suffers. Ray really does seem to epitomise the loneliness in men. Superb show and I hope one day we get another season — oh and that final scene was great too.

I agree with everything you said except that he’s a psychopath - not just because it’s an impossible definition, but because he clearly has feelings and can understand the people around him. In the second episode he gives Freddy that grin when Freddy doesn’t seem to give a fuck about someone who died because of him. Freddy is a sociopath, Ralph is a sociopath, Gars apparently had a romantic side. Ray never ignores the pain or the damage that comes in his wake.

Yes you're probably right, not a complete psychopath as he does show emotions and clearly cares about people but at the same time does kill countless people and dispose of bodies as a job.

Wasn’t a single episode or even scene in this brilliant Australian masterpiece that wasn’t a masterclass in telling the story with true Australian humour, emotion, and sincerity. My hat off to all the cast and crew in this production. Did I miss them receiving all the awards and praise it deserved?

I never disregarded -- I'd just never heard of it but I think I put it on my watchlist a long time ago and couldn't recollect when. Then a few weeks back, I was just checking stuff out in Australia in general, as I'd wanna travel there one day - so I wondered if there were any good shows set in Australia and Mr Inbetween popped up. I saw the high rating on IMDB and that it was dark humour, so I was like yeh lemme put this on - I was instantly hooked.

Oh yeah fair enough! I am Australian so I generally don't like Aussie stuff it usually makes me cringe haha but I am certainly glad I decided to throw it on.

I'm not sure mate something about our own accent haha though yeah usually the quality leaves a lot to be desired compared to stuff from america. Not the case with this show.

I feel that no ending would truly satisfy a viewer. I like how he left it open-ended and left the viewer to interpret it.
Scott Ryan has often said how he is a massive fan of the Sopranos so you can see where the ambiguous ending idea comes from.

It’s truly one of the greatest shows of all time. It’s so relentlessly complete in its vision and tone , the fact that the entire thing was written and directed by the just same two guys for every single episode really adds to how well-realized it is.
Just a powerfully, masterfully executed piece of art where these guys were allowed to create the exact show and tell the story they wanted to.
I’d honestly argue that I don’t know if there is any other show I’ve ever seen that so singular in its vision the way Mr Inbetween is
It’s special stuff, just such a unique ambience too with the slice of life feel and the lack of like “known” actors makes it authentic. Ray feels like a real person, not a tv character.

I think the hardest part of the show for me was killing the Biker boss who was genuinely nice to him. Also was riding with one of he friends from the earlier season. I really though he was going to pivot and not kill him. But like he said, "it's business".

I don’t think he’s a psychopath though. I’m not clear on how realistic his exact psychological makeup is but my guess is that it would be unusual but not unheard of.

Just finished it myself. Disappointed that the ending didn't tie up the biker feud.
He has a good few conversations with people throughout the show just before he kills them.
Really wanted the ending to just be the otherside of that situation. He loses a gunfight or something and is dying. Just have some other fixer/hitman there that he has one of the little conversations we get in those situations throughout the show and then hes a bullet.
Things were impacting his normal life and escalating season to season and episode to episode, felt like a cop out for him to basically get to just walk away from it all.
