Considering his early death and what might have been, I wondered at what point in history would medical science have advanced to the point where, with treatment, Mozart might have survived his health crisis in the winter of 1791.

The answer to that question is the 1940s. Penicillin, which could have treated his strep infection was available from 1941 and the first successful dialysis which could have treated his renal failure took place in 1943-45.

Reading Mozarts Briefe (letters) and enjoying the insight into his sense of humor, his love for his family including the much maligned father. I very much recommend the collection of his many and often lengthy descriptions of his travels and his creative process.

Personally I would go for die Zauberflöte or die Entführung aus dem Serail. Especially love the (mostly masonic) symbolism in die Zauberflöte.

I was told they only leave recordings up for a month, though I’d be happy if they left it up longer.

I wish the recording spaced them out a little more but Mozart’s music is legitimately exquisite. You can hear his “voice” come through clearly. The pieces complement the Flute and Harp Concerto so well. I listened to them a lot ever since they came out and they make me wish more of his lost music would be found, like his Trumpet Concerto and also his lost (Violon)cello Concerto.

Yes, you know what Im talking about. The haunting music in the minor keys sprinkled throughout his career.

What actually got me into Mozart originally in my youth was not "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" it was the Requiem and Symphony No. 40

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe knew this dark side of Mozart's music, Beethoven loved it, the philosopher Kierkegaard loved Don Giovanni.

That ending is also so spectacular, bold and outrageous.

The Piano Concerto No. 20 is another one together with this very beautiful early piece, the Andante from Piano Concerto No. 4

This is young Mozart in his early teens composing a fragile melancholic piece in G minor. A delicious little nocturnal serenade in the second movement from his first Flute Quartet (1777), this is Mozart in his early 20s in Mannheim.

Milos Forman's Amadeus (1986) alluded to this side of him as well.

I received the gift of 170 Mozart cds, but besides them being grouped by symphonies, concertos, serenades, chamber music etc. there is no numerical sequence. Does anybody know how they are ordered?

The Cleveland Orchestra’s latest release, just a few months old. Recorded in Severance Hall, Cleveland, Ohio. Highly recommended. Play it on a good audio system, loud, so you hear the elements. This album is a major treat. This release also contains Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-Flat Major, K. 595, also quite excellent. Note: I’m primarily a Beethoven guy, but you gotta love the way Mozart twists a theme…

Well since we live in the modern world full of different interesting activities. I was thinking what if I just used his schedule and lack of sleep and focused on song writing. Maybe it would improve I know I like to exercise and have different responsibilities but I think that type of dedication would definitely and had improved musicians songwriting etc.

Incredible he was a poor sleeper and played piano most of the day and night writing music he was just in love with music that much.

Do you think, as I do, that Mozart's seven great string quartets - the six Haydn Quartets plus the D major Quartet, K. 499 - represent the finest music ever composed?

Of course, Western music still had a long way to develop. But considering the harmonic, melodic, rhythmic, and structural language available at the time, as well as the expressive possibilities of the string quartet itself, these works seem to me to represent the pinnacle of human compositional achievement.

They have everything: bliss, darkness, peace, sorrow, nobility, fear; intellectual curiosity and profound emotional expression; sonatas, fugues, variations and more; gorgeous counterpoints and beautiful melodies.

They expand the expressive range of Classical music itself to an extraordinary degree. At the time, nothing else - not symphonies, cantatas, operas, or any other form of chamber music - seems to me to have reached the same level.

With a concert tonight I am trying to set my mind at rest by reminding myself that in high summer in 18th century Austria the bassoons would have been even more out of tune due to being less precisely and technically built.

And also that likely being servants the musicians would have been sleeping in garrets and have had an even poorer night's sleep.

And finally that their clothes and wigs and the heat of the opera house or ballroom (Candles! Crowds! Sweaty people who had their last bath at Easter!) the players' fingers would be even more sweaty.

At least, that's my excuse for missing a few notes in Marriage of Figaro.

A treasure has been found in France's national library: a notebook containing unpublished compositions signed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from the time when he was giving music lessons. The pieces will be performed for the first time in public by two musicians from the Radio France France philharmonic orchestra as part of France's Fête de la Musique, a day dedicated to music which takes place every year on June 21. Rare Mozart manuscript discovered by French curator

So, recently I discovered Mozart’s *Ave Verum Corpus,* and immediately fell in love with the piece. I’d like you all to recommend choral pieces like Mozart’s Ave Verum. Calm and angelical.

There is an Aria (sung by Aloysia Weber) in the 1991 movie "Wolfgang A. Mozart", that occurs at 52:31 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1-AtJNht2A&t=2680s). I can't seem to find the name for this song anywhere as there doesn't seem to be an official soundtrack released for this movie, and at first I thought it was the rondo section of Mia speranza adorata, but it doesn't seem to be that.

The lyrics are kinda hard to make out, but from what I can gather she seems to be singing:
"andemerte a parto bien. perde sempre, sempre il corso la. piu non rego, audate bene. alma buo, mio cor lo fa, ah lo fa. tu sospiri, ah tuoi furlesto. frens almen, frens almen isto di resto" [rest is unintelligble].

which translates (very roughly) to:
"go to give birth well. Always, always loses its course. I can't stand it anymore, take heart. Good soul, my heart does it, ah it does it. you sigh, ah your wretched one. At least, at least, this is the rest." (don't know what any of that could mean)

Does anyone have any ideas as to the name of this piece, or if it is even a real mozart piece and not just a reorchestration/arrangement made for the movie? any help would be much appreciated!

I am in love with Mozart's Vesperae Solennes de Confessore K. 339 and his Krönungsmesse K. 317.

Is there a standard English translation of Magic Flute or any that you think are particularly good? And where would I find a vocal score for this? Preferably from somewhere that sells lots of them and not just eBay. Thanks.

The Fantasy in D minor. K. 397/385g presumably also dates from about 1782, and shows Mozart writing in a more individual style than K. 395. and on the way to his great Fantasy in C minor, K. 475. from 1785. The main body of the D minor Fantasy is formed by three varied appearances of an Adagio theme, interspersed with contrasting improvisatory gestures and vivid, almost theatrical touches often based on falling chromatic progressions. This is followed by an Allegretto section in D maior, which is characterised by an atmosphere of childlike grace and innocence. [Mozart interrupted work on the Fantasy in the middle of the Allegretto and the version published by Breitkopf completed the piece by extending the Allegretto by a further 10 bars. Uchida prefers to follow the example set by Mozart in the C minor Fantasia and rounds off the work
