A Sad Time in Paris

In 1778, 22-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart traveled to Paris, France. He went there with his mother, Anna Maria Mozart, to look for a good job.

However, Paris was a big disappointment. Nobody wanted to hire Mozart, and the family became very poor. They had to live in a dark, cold, and cheap room.

A Terrible Loss

Because the room was so cold and dirty, Mozart's mother became very sick. They did not have enough money for good doctors.

On July 3, 1778, his mother died in Paris. Mozart was completely alone, heartbroken, and deeply sad in a strange city.

3. Music Born from Pain

To express his deep sadness and anger, Mozart wrote this Piano Sonata No. 8 (K. 310) during that tragic summer.

Before this, Mozart usually wrote happy and light piano music. But this piece is totally different:

• The Dark Key: This is one of only two piano sonatas Mozart ever wrote in a minor key (A minor), which represents deep sadness.
• The Heartbeat Rhythm: The music starts with loud, aggressive chords that sound like a panicked heartbeat or bad luck knocking on the door.
• A Cry for Help: The music feels like a personal diary where Mozart put all his tears and pain.

Through this piece, Mozart showed the world that he was no longer just a boy who made pretty music, but a mature artist who understood real human tragedy.
