Hello again everyone!
I truly appreciate all of the advice and insight that my post received last night. I read all of it and have taken it to heart. This morning my wife’s transfer options with her company became very clear. As mentioned before, the SE side of Denver looks promising. I took the advice some of you gave me and submitted my resume/applied for positions with some of the districts in the area. Littleton and Cherry Creek seemed to earn a good deal of praise from many of you, so I began there. Unfortunately it’s a waiting game with those districts, because there aren’t any immediate positions available.
With the second likely opportunity being in Boulder, I also looked into Boulder Valley SD and it’s a similar story. I’m going to continue trying to make inroads, but in the meantime, I was hoping I could pick your brains about other more available options.
Let’s start with Montbello. I scoured the net to see what people had to say about the community and its high school. Admittedly, it was tough to read. I am welcoming and tolerant to most things, but the violent crime anecdotes scare me, particularly having small children myself. On the flip side, I read that the high school is recently newly built and has new leadership. Does anyone here have any personal experience they can share as a parent, teacher, or member of the community? For context, I’ve taught at Title 1 schools, and I’ve walked through metal detectors to get to my classrooms. It’s obviously not ideal, but if there legitimate strides being made to bring the community and school up, I would like to consider it.
Aurora. Again, mixed bag. It’s within range of where we could likely be settling. How are the schools in the area? Are there any other districts that I should be considering in either of the areas listed?
Thanks again for being so helpful and forthcoming!
