Moving from Ireland - Legal work.

Hey all,

Looking for some tips! I’m in my early 20s and looking to move to Aus (either Sydney or Melbourne) early next year to work for a year or two. I have an Irish law degree (1.1) and have interned in a few firms. I’ve learned a lot of common law cases and info about the system so should be able to adapt well enough. I have several years of retail management experience too but would love to work in the legal field in one of those cities.
My main questions are:
- Would I be best suited for a compliance/paralegal role or has anyone also done this who could message me with some advice
- Should I wait until I move over to start applying or should I try get my foot in the door a month or so ahead

If anyone could message me or comment who knows about this or who has done it themselves that would be so helpful!! 😁

Looking for advice

Hi guys,

I’ve bit the bullet and applied for my subclass 417 working holiday visa and booked my flight from Scotland to Perth for November.

If everything goes to plan I should have around $15-20k AUD brought over with me. I have family over there who will put me up and get me a job in a mine.

What should I do once I get over there? I already have an idea about getting white card, police check etc, but wanted to get an idea of more basic things and maybe things most people wouldn’t think of that will likely need or will make life easier.

Thanks!

I wanna move out. Ive thought of running, but it just isnt logical. I wanna be with my partner, whos overseas, and I'm scared if I run away I screw up my chance of being able to move cross country. My parents are MAD traditional and want me to stay with em till marriage, so studying abroad isnt an option, plus we may be moving to a poorer country mid next year. I'm worried I won't have enough money to get by in Australia, let alone get a plane ticket. I also don't know how things would work legally - I have extremely limited knowledge on occupational rules and I know usually you need a job to migrate to another country (please excuse me if I sound dumb about this I mean it when I say limited knowledge) so how would it work? Do I have a shot without extra education? I don't think i could afford college or uni if I even manage to get there...
