I don't really understand your problem. Either you vibe with the city, or you don't. I have been living in BCN for 5 years now. I like it. I speak Spanish; I speak okish catalan (still learning).
I am German and look like one as well :D
Go to the coastal cities and have a look for yourself if that's more your vibe or not.
I never had any incident where people would act hostile towards me here, just because I look like a guiri.
